Currently my list includes:

- The God of War series
- The Uncharted series
- Ni No Kuni
- The Last of Us
- The Souls series. Which one of the three would you recommend the most? Demon's Souls, Dark Souls or Dark Souls II?
- The Ico and Shadow of the Colossus HD collection
- (Possibly) The Final Fantasy X HD collection

Those are the most prominent ones I can mention off the top of my head. A bit about my tastes: I've never actually owned a non-handheld console before, but they suit action-adventure/RPG games to me best. No FPS games (unless Killzone is something I REALLY must play), I'm too used to the mouse and keyboard and my PC is doing perfectly fine.

Bring it on!

The Uncharted and Infamous series are must plays for the PS3.

Uncharted is quite similar to the Tomb Raider reboot, only not as pretty. All three games are quite fun and I've enjoyed them greatly.

The new Infamous game is what made me buy a PS4. That should say how good this series is. I bought a new console, just to continue this game's story. The first game is very dated graphics wise, but the second game is a vast improvement to the first.

I MUST recommend Tokyo Jungle. PSN had it on sale awhile back for $1, so I bought it not even thinking twice. Then, a couple months later, I was bored and decided to give it a try and now its one of my favorite games of all time. I even paid $10 for the entire DLC which gets more animals to play as, among other things. Normal Price is $15 I believe, and IMO it is worth every penny!

Another I recommend is the newly released (on PSN) PS1 game called Vib Ribbon. Its a music based game like Audio surf, where you can use your own music and the game creates gameplay with your songs. The gameplay here is a platformer type, and the game is only $6.

Now, for PS3 games. Highly recommend Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction in addition to the other recommendations you already gave yourself. Don't forget Metal Gear Solid 4, and Metal Gear HD Collection.

Tokyo Jungle:
Weird, but fun.

Valkyria Chronicles:
Pretty good JRPG.

Disgaea (series):
3rd is fine.
4th is better.
D2 is the best.

Ratchet & Clank: Tools Of Destruction, Quest for Booty, A Crack In Time, Nexus, HD Collection
[Ignore Q-Force & All4One because they were shet]
Jak & Daxter Trilogy
KingdomHearts HD2.5Remix is out soon
Metal Gear Solid: Legacy Collection
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
Bayonetta
Infamous Collection
Little Big Planet 2 Special Edition

Those are some ideas although i would absolutely recommend that you wait for BlackFriday or CyberMonday to make those purchases. Im all for paying games what theyre worth but one still has to make the rent on time.

Also as an owner of a 360 id recommend that if its a great western multiplaform go 360, but if its multiplat out of Japan get for PS3

I do not own a PS3, but my friend does let me game on his. Here are some games I've tried and not already listed that I recommend:

Folklore
Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale if you want a Brawl type game
Devil May Cry HD Collection
Devil May Cry 4
DmC: Devil May Cry despite being a reboot is better than some diehard fans might lead you to believe though it's still sub-par compared to what could have been
No More Heroes: Hero's Paradise is something I actually own for Wii. I've never played it on PS3, but I imagine it's just as good and obviously has the better graphics since it came out AFTER the original Wii version (and previously only version, which was just known as No More Heroes at the time).
One Piece: Pirate Warriors is the only Dynasty Warriors related game I've played honestly
The Sly Collection: Truth be told I only tried one of the games, but I liked what little I tried. I've always wanted to play the series ever since I saw a Toonami commercial advertising a contest that could win you a free PS2 and Sly Cooper...a contest I obviously didn't win

Whilst not a game as such, I have drawn a lot of enjoyment and value from the Playstation Plus subscription. With a few games every month, I have picked up a few titles I might not have looked at closer if I had to spend the money on them. A few of the games from your list, bartholen, are amongst them.

Of course there have been a few duds amongst the selection, but as a whole I am rather impressed by the quality of games on offer.

I second the Jak and Daxter and Ratchet and Clank collections. Everything God of War, except Ascension, is a must own. (I have not played Ascension, but from what I've heard, it's not really worth it after 2 other mid/prequels.) Killzone 3 was actually pretty fun, with stupidly ridiculous guns and giant mechs you had to take out with RPGs that would make the US Armed Forces blush with envy. I got it for around $8 last year after giving up console FPSes and regret not getting it back when multiplayer would have been more lively.(Don't know about KZ2, so just grab KZ3 if you see at a price you like.)

If you love action-adventure/RPG hybrid games with unique visual flair unlike any other, get Okami HD. It is easily one of the best games ever made and shouldn't be missed out by anyone. It's also not too hard unless you do things like the bonus demon gates, so it makes for good exploration (and it's got plenty of it) without annoying battles is the way. Actually IIRC, battles only get you money. Healing plants and helping villagers is what lets you level up different things like health, ink (magic), and other attributes.

And maybe a Lego game of your favorite franchise for if there are kids over.

Since you're interested in God of War, I'll recommend the Devil May Cry HD Collection as well. DMC3 ranks up there as one of my favourite games of all time. There's also Bayonetta and Metal Gear Rising by Platinum Games, and if you want a platformer, Sly Cooper 2 is outstanding (don't bother with the first one.)

Edit: Above poster suggested one of the Lego games. I'd recommend Lego Marvel Super Heroes, personally; it's got a great script, pretty good cast, and some interesting puzzles and powers. Reckon it's the best of the series, though you may prefer one of the others.

As you've mentioned you haven't had a non-handheld console I'll mention a few multiplatform games. Some great games have already been listed, a few more I would suggest are:

The Journey Collection
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Okami HD
Red Dead Redemption
Portal 2
Rayman Legends

If you are a Naruto fan, Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 and 3 are really good.

Okami HD is a must play.
God of war 3 and 4 are decent, as well as the HD 1 and 2.

I strongly recommend that you look through the ps2 and ps1 classics of the psn. Lots of great games there, especially persona 3.

Also, for RPGs, remember the amazing "Tales" series:

Tales of Symphonia
Tales of Xillia
Tales of Xillia 2
Tales of Graces
And the upcoming Tales of Zestiria

inFAMOUS 1 and 2
The Ratchet and Clank games
Journey
Okami HD
The Metal Gear Solid Collection

The Pixel Junk Shooter games are good for a laugh too.

Darks Souls feels more organic due to it's open world, but Demon's Souls is definately worth your time as well. I never played Dark Souls 2, but the general opinion seems to be that it's Dark Souls but without the soul. And seeing as the original creative force behind the series didn't work on 2, I'm very inclined to believe that.

Possibly Dragon's Dogma, It's quite well received but i have not played it enough yet to make a solid recommendation.

I'll just contribute to the souls series a little bit.

Short version:

Dark souls 2 is probably the easiest entrypoint, but i'd recommend the pc version if you can run it(with a controller). And I think the other two are superior atmosphere and experience-wise.

Demon's souls has shut it's multiplayer servers(messages between worlds still work i think, but no invasions or cooperation) and focuses more on the gameplay elements where dark souls focuses more on exploration.

Long version:

Demon's souls has arguably the strongest style and atmosphere of the three. It is also quite a bit easier to navigate than dark souls and slightly easier to navigate than dark souls 2 in my opinion.

If you want to play online, you should consider either of the dark souls games as demon's souls multiplayer servers have been taken down.

Dark souls 2 is the easiest if you don't count the dlc, but also has the weakest setting especially if you play dark souls 1 first as 2 leans on the established lore quite a bit. Also if you want to play dark souls 2, I'd personally recommend playing on pc if you're able to as it's much more fluid and in this case the difference between pc and console version is like night and day. Gameplay-wise I consider dark souls 2 the best in the series, but i feel it lacking in other compartments(enough so that it's my least favourite of the series, but it is still a very good game).

Difficulty between demon's souls and dark souls is much more debatable, demon's souls plays faster, is a bit more fluid and has more forgiving recovery system as you can collect recovery items. Dark souls relies on a limited amount of recovery that is replenished in checkpoints. On the other hand in demon's souls the checkpoints are often much further apart, which makes it a little more punishing experience. Demon's souls uses a hub based world where you can warp to different levels and Dark souls pretty much has all the levels connected and unlocks the warping much later in the game.

Finally dark souls emphasizes exploration a lot more than either Demon's souls or dark souls 2 and as Casual Shinji said, it feels a lot more organic as a world.

Um, yea that. It's basically GTA in western form, and my god does it work well. Also it may be one of the best looking games you can get for that thing.
Sadly the multiplayer is gone though, as I believe they shut the servers down a while back.

Over all it is a solid game I think, as it did so much right and is something very different from everything else. The horses feels good to control, the gunslinging is extremly fun at times, random events makes the world feel alive and it just feels right.
The story may not be the best from what I remember, but in my opinion the core game mechanics more than make up for anything it may lack.

Damn, I wish my ps3 still worked now =/
