I was thinking about getting back into 40k and I wanted to know if you people had any advice as to what army takes the least amount of painting assembling ect but is still fun to play with?

Can anyone tell me if there have been any new codex's for any army lately?

I have previously tried Tau and Imperial Guard

Space Marines are devoid of effort, and imagination unless you're good.

Go for'em.

Tau are also easy to paint.

I only just got into 40k: I made a little Chaos Space Marine. I didn't get to paint him, but the assembly was pretty easy.

Which?

Cause they both have a fairly huge amount of units.

Painting and assembling is the most fun part! But I can't help you, I've gone off it for too long :,(
i always hated painting but what i loved was getting models from different armies or even universes and incorperating them into my army, usually as leaders

Yeah, as has already been said, Space Marines are really simple for a quick slap of paint and a battle, but they do have enough detail available to paint that you could go to town with detail if you wanted to. They're a nice, diverse army to paint.

Also, if anyone here has been around the GW news for the past year or so, could they possibly tell me why the hell they decided to drop all the old classic ranges and the ability to order separate sprues and models out of box sets? I came back to Warhammer a month or so ago now that my exams are over, and find incredibly limited bitz sections and a considerable lack of classic models, meaning my scope for conversions has been blitzed =(

I beg to differ. Maybe last time was before they got the skyray/pirhana etc?

Yes but most of them are the same troops just reimagined

.....really?

I can't actually think of two similar units, save the battlesuits and stealth suits, which have completely different purposes.

Ok I simply dislike tau for their strategy since they get boned very fast and very well by any fast moving assault units, I'll take my orks with the turbo-boost rule (and extra mayo) please.

In my opinion an easy army to paint and construct is necrons but the play takes some time to get used to.

other than that chaos marines or normal marines are fun and easy to build and paint.

Thats kinda hypocritical....since the space marine units are mostly just the same troops re-imagined. Heavy weapon marines, jetpack marines, normal marines, scout marines.

The Imperial Guard have a rather large selection of units, plus all the different designs of each Guard regiment available, so I'd say the Guard.

They also don't take a lot of effort to assemble, you get a large army in a small amount of time and you can get away with a two-colour colour scheme, possibly a 1 colour scheme if you're very boring.

Last I heard, (A couple of years ago now) they're focusing more on plastics so I suspect they just aren't producing as much in the metals anymore.

Well that explains the classics I spose, any idea on the lack of sprues or was that one not as announced?

Well I suspect they just don't want to sell individual pieces of a kit when they know the average workshopper will buy a whole kit just for that one specific arm pose... yes I've done this.

I used to work for them until they found out I didn't know how to play the games very well... They didn't follow their own rules when they hired me they just liked me hehe.
