I'm not interested in Christmas

I want to know if i'm the only person alive that isn't particularly interested in Christmas.

The media coverage it gets is appaling (at least here in Australia), with a number of terrible christmas specials being played on TV. All of this is extremely off-putting.

The thing that disgusts annoys me the most is the spoilt children. A lot of these kids get a ridiculous number of presents, when neither them or their families understand what christmas is actaully about. It all just seems like another excuse to receive gifts, and another excuse of a holiday.

I'm not saying we should get rid of Christmas once and for all, i just don't like what it has become, and it just doesn't excite or interest me at all.

So am i the only one feeling this way?

EDIT: what im saying is that it seems to be too much about the gifts now. and the media ruin it.

EDIT: Im glad that some of you appreciate my point of view, and can actually undetstand it, whereas a few complete dismiss any idea of actually thinking for a second. Listen, its hard to convey what im trying to say without somebody misinterpreting it. I dont hate christmas, i dont hate gift giving and i dont hate the celebration and having a good time with family and friends, i just believe that something doesnt feel right for me, and that it all seems a bit artificial.

I love Christmas because of the family connections and feeling of love I get from it. I also love seeing my Son's face on Christmas Eve.

Sucks to be you I guess.

I really dont care about gifts, more about being around other people celebrating with tables of delicious food. Its the single time of the year where im social, really.

There's nothing wrong with christmas being about gifts.
Gifts are supposed to be symbols of your affection. You're not sullying "the real spirit of christmas" by giving too expensive gifts.
Gift-giving is a fine way to spend time with family and friends. There's nothing wrong with giving gifts that reflect your standard of living.

Also. Let me guess: You're 15, aren't you?

But to answer your question: No you're not the only one. You're never the only one.

The only problem with the gift-giving tradition is those awkward parts where you have friends you don't know whether you should buy gifts or not.

Commercial Christmas is pretty much what Christmas is about unless you're part of a religion I guess. This year, the only thing I'm looking forward to is meeting my family and getting and giving a present. And of course watching the Die Hards. There's no more Santa so I can't look forward to that either. Neither am I Christian anymore so I won't be going to Church.

Being in my late 20's and living alone, I also am not too bothered about Christmas. I don't even do any decorations, it just seems pointless and silly. The commercialization doesn't bother me either, we don't exchange gifts with my friends, we just hang out, play cards, choke on cigars that were made for better men than us and make experimental drinks. I have been a child however, and realize how awesome Christmas can be if your parents make them so for you. I'll do the same when (if) I have kids of my own. Right now, it doesn't really interest me.

I love all the build up towards christmas. I love the christmas specials, commercials, songs, website backgrounds (Like ours here on the 'Scapist.). The funny thing is though, that despite my love for the build up, christmas itself is very little pay-off. I could easily manage christmas without the actual christmas celebration.

A good comparison would be TF2. I love the community videos and the "Meet the" shorts, but I don't enjoy playing TF2.

The only reason I like Christmas is the presents. Everything else I hate; lots of family visiting, the ridiculous TV specials and so-called 'Christmas spirit'.

i like christmas, mainly because my family from overseas usually come over, and this is the only time i get to see them, like atm my family from australia are here (i live in england)

the downside is when i go to make a cup of tea in the morning, everyone else wants one so i have to make like 10 cups of tea -___-

I love Christmas, the gifts aren't am important part for me, even though I do love to give and obviously receive.

I just like being around my family, having awesome food and generally a good laugh and drink.

I hate Christmas. It's offensive in every way. Someone ought to tell these people that Christmas is pagan in origin and has nothing to do with the birth of Christ.

Dude, chill. Christmas isn't even a religious holiday anymore. The power of Santa compels you!

As for the OP, it's the parents that are the problem more than the children when a kid is spoilt. As for the disinterested bit, I'm sure a lot of people of a non-christian faith share those thoughts. It's like asking me if I'm bothered about Ramadan.

I personally love Christmas, because I'm sappy, and there ain't nothing better for a sap then giving people stuff and seeing them smile and root through the paper for the gift receipt.

I'm slowly getting over Christmas as a whole. It's cool to get presents and I always have fun when the family and friends descend at our house and visit.

But it doesn't excite me like it used to, and this is the first year it has been like that really. Probably has something to do with age. Or possibly that I'm sick as a dog right now... but no matter.

Thanks for the laugh, but ritualized happiness through materialism is just as bad.

I hate Christmas, mostly because of the pretence, people playing at caring about relatives they've avoided for the rest of the year and so on.

Like a certain webcomic once said. "Your never the only one. Never." I don't care I just want the stuff and I don't even care too much about that.

My family uses Christmas as an excuse to get family together all in one place for a great big meal. Everything else is incidental.

Christmas is only annoying if you let it be.

Well, for me Christmas is about the atmosphere of the season. Yes, there's consumerism and TV specials, but, and maybe this makes me shallow, I like that stuff.

I like those TV specials and I like heading to the malls and seeing them lit up with Christmas lights. I like the pageantry, the atmosphere; and though it's not immediately visible while out on the streets, come Christmas day people are spending time with their loved ones.
I will be, at any rate.

So what if presents are the prevailing notion of Christmas? The reason we give presents in the first place is to bring happiness to the people we care about.

Or maybe I'm just naive, and if that's the case I don't mind. I'm always happy around this time of year.
