1. cannot connect to any servers. "there are 250 servers that match your criteria. unfortunately, none of them want you"

2. if i do get connected, i get booted about 2 to 3 minutes in because im not "teh hardcore" despite the fact that ive played for about 20 hours or i get dogpiled by the enemy

3. ive never won a game i stayed in, and guess who the blame goes to?

4. spy=cheater. seriously, ive been up against the wall and i get backstabbed. and when i try to disguise myself and backstab? knife never goes up to imply that i can backstab when im RIGHT ON THEIR BACK!!! then i get killed

and dont even put up that "it gets better" poster, cause it dosent

Well, for the fourth point, "facestabs" are a well known occurence throughout the game, and I know many servers that give you backstab kills without doing the animation.

Other than that, can't really help you, since you obviously don't want it.

2-Extreme exaggeration? I've yet to see a player booted for being bad. You're either exaggerating or you've got to be a real asshat or you're misinterpreting why you're kicked (Probably ping is too high) - Never seen a player kicked for anything other than abusiveness, 1100 hours played.
3-Stop chatting so much with your team-mates
4-Spy's probably the most difficult class to play, with the fewest rewards. It's such a crap class to play it probably makes .5% total play time for me

Yeahh it sucks when you get bunched up with "leet" wannabes, (real) good players carry the team despite noobs being noobs. Stop playing I guess. Not like you spent any money to play. Easy come, easy go.

1. well thats just shit. try finding a specific server thoug.

2. seriously? ive played for less than that and i play the longest in the games. i play on semi-casual servers.

3. well that makes sense, as the servers you're on seem to be made up of assholes. if you get on a good server, you'll do better.

4. maybe the server lags a bit, and maybe shoulders count for backstabs.

Ehhhh, I agree with everything else, but this? No sir. The spy has the greatest Risk/Reward play style, and even though he isn't my favorite class, I still have the most hours played as him.

If you're discovered, chances are you'll be killed, but if you're not? Well, time to get to work and ruin someone's day.

Well christ don't play it if you don't like it. No ones forcing you to. I don't eat glass for a similar reason.

I've never encountered any of the things you've mentioned.

Go to SaxtonHale, a bit louder but is pretty friendly.

Spy is very difficult, go pyro for a while. 20 hours is nothing compared to the guy above me or my 542 hours.

I always just play offline. Sure, it ruins the "team" part in Team Fortress, but it beats having to put up with hypercritical, over competitive, underage players.

Seems to be lag issues, but who knows. Have patience with it. Here's a comic to cheer you up.

Because you're a newby. That's all. Seriously, Spies are the class that prey on new players who don't know how to recognise them. By 20 hours you've definitely got the obvious stuff when it comes to spotting disguised spies like you can't walk through them and they'll try to avoid being hit, they won't shoot etc. However there's far more subtle stuff, they'll usually make "eye contact" with you if you're approaching them whereas people who are actually on your team won't pay you that much attention. Stuff like that which you'll only be able to recognise with experience. On the flip side some of them will deliberately avoid looking at you and you can spot that too. Some classes are used more commonly as disguises like pyro (appropriate walking speed, short range primary to explain why they're not shooting, they usually flank etc) however some spies deliberately disguise as scout and just don't move around much because most people don't expect the scout. I could go on for a while trust me.

Also I find it hard to believe no one lets you join, use the server browser and find a low ping server and you should be set.

Also I love how every time there's a TF2 bashing thread on the escapist everyone jumps in for the scrimmage.

That comic is basically 100% how I feel about it. It's like that when you start. But eventually, I started to get the hang of it, and it's a LOT of fun now. Spies only rarely get me because they seem so obvious now, no one eeever really ragged on me when I started, and I'm just getting plain better. TF2 is sooo much different from most other games you'll play involving shooting that it takes time to adjust for many. It really is great though.

It's clear you have an issue outwith elitist players. I have no trouble entering public servers, provided you set the password filter on, hide full and empty servers and pick ones with low ping and a decent number of players it works 90% of times.

By 3 I mean that people generally don't point any fingers unless that person is running their mouth first, we just don't care enough to do it, it doesn't matter too much if you win or lose in pub games.

And spies become not even a threat once you get used to the game, your ability to identify them becomes almost sixth-sense and any class head on with a spy wins after they are spotted. You begin to notice odd little things like how they swerve ever so slightly to avoid bumping into players running near them, behaviour which makes no sense like running towards the friendly base at 80% hp, stuff like that.

Really, it gets better, but I can't help you with your troubles connecting, rest assured that it's not people being dicks towards you.

Sorry to rain on your parade, but most people in TF2 (at least the servers I play on) say it takes roughly 100 hours of play time on one character to understand the basics, and when I casually mention my 250+ hours on scout I still hear people tell me how I can do things better.

With only 20 hours you are, by definition, a noob to most of the player base. But keep in mind, this game has been out for years, and most people who play (at least play it well) have stockpiled many countless hours into it. These are the people you will have to contend with, and it's not easy.

Now, player skill aside, you may have issues with ping, I personally won't play a server with 80+ latency.

Find a server you have good connection to, repeatedly play on that server or other servers affiliated with it, get to know the admins and usual crowd of players, and ask for tips. Never, ever, ever be a jackass, especially if you're new, and sometimes you'll have to bite the bullet and deal with jackass admins and usual players. You'll learn the game through experience, but after only 20 hours of gameplay you probably don't really know how to deal with every situation.

TL;DR: This isn't Call of Duty or Halo, 20 hours of gameplay means nothing.

From my experience, those who complain about hating TF2 are people going into the game expecting instant gratification.

@ OP: So far everyone has said what you need to know as far as what to do so I wont add. On a side note, haven't you made a thread in the past regarding the same, or similar, issues? Not accusing you of anything, I could be wrong.

I really, honestly can't say I've prioritised a spy on the enemy team as a threat to winning in all my time, it's always that comp demo/soldier that just seems not to die, the demo that kills people in two stickies, the soldier that airshots you from 100ft, juggles 2 pyros with the other two rockets then gets three kills with the shotgun. Yeah, that bastard.

Try playing in the ubercharged.net server against a demoman called "Axon" and you'll get what I mean, the ****'s unkillable.

Unless you're too much of a ninja for me to notice you.
