I think there will be one "stealth" mission like in every CoD game. Its mandatory, and the stealth is always piss poor.

I was just kinda spooked to be doing my shopping in Sainsbury's where they have a token couple of shelves of games next to a few new release DVDs, and saw they have a whole stand devoted to MW3 cases, emblazoned with the NOVEMBER release date.

If that's what they're doing in a Sainsbury's that doesn't care about games, FIVE months before it's released, then damn this one's gonna have a silly marketing budget.

Umm... CoD had stealth? Oh yeah, they do have those stealth missions...

But really, there's almost no stealth in any CoD game. Not that that's a problem really.

I'm not really worried about MW3 because I won't be getting it. Since CoD 4 the series has declined further and further into a bland, generic, fps with broken mechanics and story. I'm mostly worried about the effect MW3 will have on other series, what with the additional charge added onto some of the content of multiplayer.

To be honest CoD4 never really had proper stealth. It was just you following a pre set path with hardly any variables to speak of. If there's any "stealth missions" in MW3 it'll probably be like that snow mission in MW2 which was laughably simple.

Play the Thief games or the early Splinter Cell games if you want stealth.

It's a pity that the single most satisfying and visceral part of Modern Warfare, the sniper mission, is so unrepresentative of the overall qualities of the series. I guess it's a moot point, as I'm bored of almost all fps games at this point. Concerning COD, though, there are simply not enough variations in the formula to make any experience feel fresh or worthwhile.

COD never really had stealth, in COD4 it was fun but after playing it a few times you realize that it's follow a certain pre-made path at this time or it auto detects you and you die.
Thats.... Exactly how stealth is done 99% of the time?
wrong, a good stealth game doesn't have a pre-made path, in a stealth game you can take as many routs as you want to avoid being seen (see assassins creed for example). in COD4 its literally the same path over an over no matter how many times you play it.
You flame CoD and then praise Assasins Creed for its stealth in the same sentence? Wow. Just wow.

Wrong.
referencing is not the same as praising.

So, thats the thief series, oblivion, vampire rain (which was basically a stealth game, because if they saw you, you were fucked), manhunt, hitman, splinter cell...

Sorry, i'm not seeing your point

Edit:

Oh, I need to actually comment on the thread, silly me.

Yeah, OT: One always makes it in. I think they'll be one in England's train tunnels, they've got an underwater section from the looks of it, so you will probably have to do a stealth section around then.

Personally, I just hope its as gruesome as the neck stabbing in blops. That was nasty and wonderfully unexpected.

Stealth? Don't think it matters as much. The stealth section in CoD 4 was pretty cool and the beginning of MW 2 was all right, but for the most part both of them turned out to be shoot outs in the end. A small stealth section will probably make it in, but nothing too fancy. Either way I don't care.

He's got a point, I don't see any other way of doing it.
... like an actual stealth game would, perhaps?

Its a scripted event in CoD, it is not in any of those games.

OT: Beyond a matter of pacing, I can't imagine it mattering that much. You wouldn't believe how much scripted events comprise those games.

I always did prefer the more covert missions. I never understood in Black Ops how in that one mission where you dressed up as the enemy and snuck through their base how you remained completely undetected that whole time, but when you suddenly enter one area everyone starts shooting at you because suddenly they know you're the enemy?

Except in this case, it is. You said a good stealth game does not have a pre made path and then said Assasins Creed was like that. That is praising Assasins Creed for good stealth.-
using it as an example is not a praise,(granted i could've used a better example like splinter cell, or other tom clancy games) i don't even like AC, never finished any of the games. But all i'm saying is that other games have better stealth elements. But stealth in COD is like trying to pretend you didn't shoot those 10 cops in GTA4 and thinking you can get away with it without 60 hollow points in you chest.

The only good stealth mission was the one in CoD4 in Chernobyl. After World at War the series died anyway.

Hey escapists, I don't know about you guys but I'm excited for MW3 but I'm worried there won't be any stealth in the game at all, I mean if two continents go to war there won't be many opportunities for stealth in London, New York, Paris or Berlin.

What do you guys think of the Stealth in the CoD Games?
... Stealth...

Can't recall any, unless you call "QUICK! HIDE FROM TEH CHOPPER'S LIGHT!" stealth...

I certainly fucking don't.

The only stealth I actually liked from the CoD series was the Chernobyl mission (the first one) from CoD4.

That was amazing.

Really? Stealth in a COD game? Okay there is stealth actually its just so contrived by bat- shit bonkers explosions and nuclear missile launches every other minute that its like its not there.

I stopped worrying about CoD after CoD 4.

As much as I hate to say it, I'm done with CoD, They sold out and are now just getting produced to please their giant fanbase.

But yeah, I honestly think a force stealth section is the least of this games problem.
Wait...what? They sold out by making games for their fans? Isn't that what they're supposed to do? Pleasing your fanbase = revenue, which is the entire point of a business like Activision. Do you think there's even one large developer that doesn't make games to make money? EA, Valve, Bioware, Bethesda, Blizzard, Bungee. They make games for their fans so they can continue to make money.

OT: There will surely be a stealth based level in MW3. During the large battles, there will be a few covert sections to get behind enemy lines and/or stop a missile launch or something. It's pretty much mandatory at this point.

'All Ghillied Up' might not have been stealth in the sense that Splinter cell is, but it was certainly tense and effective at creating that illusion.

I loved the Chernobyl mission in MW1. Having to carefully choose targets and wait in perfect stillness as an APC rumbles past you was great fun. I wouldn't want the whole game to be like that, but it was a great change of pace from the constant noisy firefights before and after.

As it is, I'll probably end up getting MW3...not for full price though.
