Halo is okay, I guess. It's nothing spectacular, but there isn't anything horrible about it.

Halo is very average, IMO.

Also, Halo isn't the only game being hated on.

Call of Duty has been insulted, along with Fallout 3, World of Warcraft, and most of Valves games. People are going to disrespect a game no mater how awesome, it's simply their opinion.
CoD deserves it, because they have been getting worse with each release, but the others I agree with you on. Even though I hate WoW, I wouldn't say that it deserves it... I am just mad about SWG skill system getting nerfed as a result of WoW. Although it is annoying that the small squeeky wheels are ruining a lot of good games... They need to go die.

I concur. Halo is by no means perfect, but I'll be damned if it isn't fun.
Yeah, it's about as fun as a punch to the balls. Give me Assassin's Creed or Half-Life 2 any day.
Someone give this guy a beer, he's so fucking right!

Assassin's Creed & Half-Life 2 > Halo
Troll, you go leave now!

People, such as yourself, who call the game a masterpiece piss me off because you're devaluing the term. Team Fortress 2 is a masterpiece, the Final Fantasy games are masterpieces Violator by Depeche Mode is not a masterpiece. Halo is far from a masterpiece, its a transparent game that is bland enough for most people to enjoy but lacks gaming depth and doesn't do anything interesting with the genre, it would be ok if it had a basic premise but did it superbly, like the original Killzone and Black which were deliberately simple, relying on individual skill rather than circumstance. Halo is just typical w+m1 stuff for me.

that and I can't stand scifi shooters...

I'm tired of both sides of the arguement. There will always be games better than it. There will always be games worse than it.

I agree. I love the Halo franchise.
The storyline isn't entirely ridiculous for sci fi, the action is still engaging, and most of all while the game doesnt get into the gritty realism or depth of games like Killzone 2 or Modern Warfare, what it does serve up in spades is FUN.

Halo isn't a CHORE to play. It isn't so deep that I have to be in the right "mood" to play.
It is simply "fun"---snippity snip snip--- people hate the PS3 even though it's arguably the best console ever made, why people hate the DS for selling enough units to buy a third world country, why people hate Fall Out Boy, and anything else that has the audacity to be popular.

It's just "cool" to hate on things now even if those very same people secretly like those things. How many Xbox haters would turn down a free Xbox and gaming library? I'd wager not many.

Honestly, it's just that this whole "non-conformist" bullshit has gone waay too far.
you have just found the entire cure to our world, here is a coupon to mcdonalds.
you are right about the whole non popular thinks becoming popular because non popular is popular?
wait what?

and your views about Halo are spot on, it's fun, that's it, it's a fun game,
what makes it so different, is that people won't ever ever forget about it.

I enjoyed the first game, I played through the story with a good friend during the summer of it's release (or the next summer, can't remember) and absolutely enjoyed it. I then picked up the second game and thought it wasn't all that special.

What annoys me about halo is that it's become the (warning: generic issues) franchise that almost every other fps game wants to be. Where it gets to the point tat the only thing seperating them is that it's gone from Spartans vs Covenant to Allied Forces vs The Axis of Evil.

tl;dr: it's not the game that annoys me, it's the icon it's become.

And the haters.

I just hate anyone who bashes an opinion. If people hate Halo, let them. If they don't, let them.
You speak good way. Strumpet like good speak. Strumpet agree.

Yeah, anyway...I agree with Samuel, but it is something that cannot be erased from this world. Hate is human nature. We all hate on something. I think we just have to accept the fact that we all hate each other. That way, we'll be better off, and we don't need to rant, because everyone knows, that whether being in the majority, or minority, we are hated.

It depends honestly on what you want to take from a game like Halo. A large part of Halo's fan base is made up of either first time gamers who have played barely any sort of game, and Halo was the game that got them hooked, as far as Ive witnessed. Or people who simply love hardcore FPS games, or even more so, people who just like the style of gaming. I myself enjoy a game of Halo or two every now and again but its not the kind of game im going to praise heavily, or criticize endlessly. There are things i love and hate about it, just like any game.

On that matter, for a reference, when i played Team Fortress 2,I fell in love instantly, this as because I had played Team Fortress Classic some years earlier, and enjoyed that. I loved th art direction, the creative character designs, the funny dialogues and the overall flow, playability, and humor of an FPS that sometimes cant take itself seriously. However, there were things removed from the game or just plain swapped out. Such as the remote grenades of the demo in TFC, were replaced with the rather frustrating to counter(in my opinion) counter sticky bomb. Another thing i disliked was the removal of the Pyro's incendiary rocket launcher(If not, replaced with the flare gun now?) Additionally, the game had inherited source's issues with hitbox and hitreg.

However, I still love the game for what it is, despite those issues/problems. And as for Halo, I enjoy the wonderful graphics and overall art direction. I enjoy the creativity and time that Bungie tirelessly put into their flagship title. However, I miss not having a health bar or limited shields like in other games similar to Halo. Which gives me a feeling that Im invincible, and removes the exhilaration of a good fight. Secondly, i was nevery really proud of any of Halo's vehicles like the warthog and Ghost as they simply acted as added health in their earlier representations than an actual combat unit. The pistol in Halo 1 and in ODST both put me off as it is a personal defense weapon, and not a sniper rifle. On the flip side, the multiplayer is full of fun and hilarity, coop campaign is refreshing to play. Many of the guns fill a satisfying niche and some are just downright fun to use(Brute Weapons, anyone?) Also I enjoyed the many little Easter Eggs and bonuses that came with playing the game.

And that's my take on this discussion. Its nice to pick a side and defend it and all, but sometimes you just gotta look at the grass on both sides of the fence, and choose one. While I may dislike things about Halo, I cant say that I absolutely don't enjoy playing it.

And for those of you that weren't sure whose 'side' I was on, I was For Halo.

If I hear over and over and over "OMG HALOZ BEST GAME EVERZ" it makes me violent....but this is not just for halo, it could be gears of war, ff7 or even pong. I think that's why there is a great deal of bashing...

Ok, if you're tired of people hating on Halo, why create a forum where most of them will target your precious Halo and hate it anyway? Slip up #1.

Many people don't hate on Halo cause it's unrealistic, but because it gets perfect scores without really being perfect as a game.

I loved the first Halo, but then I started to notice that the game was just being re-released with a few new gimmicks each time it came out. Which is my main gripe with Halo right now.

Incidentally, you are a fanboy. Even though you like other games, you're here trying to stick up for a fundamentally flawed game despite its irrationality.

But don't be worried. Most people are fanboys of something.

The way I see it, is you fall into one of two groups, whether you intend to or not.
1) The Fanboys. Accussed of pretty much bumming the game and trying to convert people to see it as the perfect game it is.
2) The Haters. Hating the game for all its worth. Mocking one flaw or several.

Sadly there is no inbetween with most people which is what I would like to see.
i.e 3_ Enjoy the game, acknowledges that it is good, but not brilliant.

Sadly, this also seems to be the case for Half Life 2.
I really do think people can fall somewhere vaguely in the middle. I consider myself a partial fanboy. I don't care if people don't like it but when they bash it non-stop just because they feel like it then i don't like that. I do admit the game isn't perfect but it is still a great game.

The fact Halo CE has average rating of 97 on metacritic proves how low video game journalist's credibility is.
Okay. Let's use Occam's Razor on this. Which is more likely, that people have a different opinion from you, or that all of these people were bribed into rating the game well? Think long and hard about this (I know that's difficult for you, but bear with me). Sheer logic dictates that it is more likely that these people merely do not agree with you.

If Halo was a terrible game, Bungie would never have made FOUR of them. Halo is awesome!
