The Bodge Job Killer, as a bodge job is a job that's done quick and carelessly, which is the MO of your killer.

Barry the Chopper?

Or "The Litterer" ! Because he just dumps these bodies wherever the fuck he wants!
Hey you stole the first one from fma how do i know? I'm a world class piracy detective.........

<------- also i like fma.

op: We realy do need more info about your character as others have stated if he just kills randomly all the time with out covering his tracks he's as good as caught.

Mabye make it that he view humanity as rotten and unable to save so to rid the world of the "filth" he kills them. While he's not a pro he does have some knowledge he kills over a wide area and kills via cokeing them with a metal cord?

He is completely batshit, lives in L.A and basically mutilates just about anyone he can get his hands on. Any ideas?

EDIT: Like his serial killer name ie. Jack the Ripper, the Happy Face Killer, something that the news people call him.

EDIT EDIT: He's nuts, and he kills people because of it (yeah, I know most crazy people aren't actually violent). He only kills in LA, but he's not specific to one part of the city. There's really no link between his victims, but his MO is to cut their throats, then hack up the bodies. This is done really poorly, as he has no medical knowledge. He is pretty non-specific as to where he dumps the bodies.
Never mind the name, you need to flesh out the character a bit more. Everybody who kills does so for a reason, it's never as simple as "they are nuts". What sort of "nuts" is he, obviously he has a mental illness of some kind, what sort? Has he been diagnosed? Has he taken steps to control it? Is he on any medication, what effect does that have? If he is then it's obvious that his medication isn't working out that well for him - has he tried to change to other medication? Which type? What do the doctors say about his condition? They wouldn't know about the bodies but they'd know he's nuts, surely. And if he's not diagnosed, how can he be such a psycho yet hide his "batshit" condition from the general public? Obviously he doesn't kill literally everyone he can get his hands on or he wouldn't be able to even function in society (when buying food he'd kill someone before he reached the checkout, when leaving the house he'd kill the first person he'd see, couldn't possibly hold down a job and get income etc), so how does he select victims? How does he stop getting caught? Is he careful? If he's careful, then that suggests that his mental illness isn't omnipresent, because you have to think fairly clearly to cover your tracks. Why does he hack up the bodies, what purpose does that serve? What does he do with the bodies once he's hacked them up? How does he dispose of a hacked-up body - doesn't this make it more difficult in some ways (such as leaving a forensic trail)? How has he evaded capture? If his killing is truly random, surely then it would be confined to a specific area, because why travel all over a big city like L.A. when you're an impulse type of killer who kills "anyone he can get his hands on"? And if he is travelling all over the city that suggests that he's smarter than the average cat and maybe not so "nuts" after all... sounds like he has real motivations. Also how does he feel about killing after the event? Is he aware that his killing poses a potential problem for his lifestyle? Has he taken steps to control his urges, given that they stem from mental illness? If he revels in it, why? What's in it for him? Why go to all that effort? Why bother?

If you can answer all these questions then you're probably getting close to deciding on a name for this person.
It does seem that way, doesn't it? In my story, he's fleshed out just fine. I would go so far as to say he's the most fleshed out character, seeing as his actions drive the plot. I'm not going into terrible detail here because his motivations aren't terribly relevant to his naming; the media/cops would name him after the bodies he leaves behind. So I gave only the details that they could observe from the crime scenes.

If you want to write a serial killer you need to study them first, especially since the psychological profile you've given in this post doesn't actually describe a serial killer. A random whackjob? yes. Serial killer? No. For someone to actually be a serial killer, they have to fit a very distinct profile, more of a specific personality type and just being crazy and killing people isn't actually enough. If you're really interested in writing a serial killer, then I recommend looking up Whoever Fights Monsters: My Twenty Years Hunting Serial Killers for the FBI by Robert K. Resser and Tom Shachtman. It covers a lot of the biggies like Ted Bundy, John Wayne Gacy, David Berkowitz ("Son of Sam"), Charles Manson, etc. It'll give you a better idea of what it actually takes to hunt serial killers and what they're like.

Good luck.
Well, the technical definition of a serial killer is someone that kills more than three people with a cool-down period in between. So, that's what I mean when I say serial killer. Also, I know being crazy isn't enough; most serial killers aren't actually afflicted with any mental illness. I said it to another person: I'm just giving the detail about the killer that the cops would notice about the crime scenes. The whole motivation and backstory of the killer is far more fleshed out than I've written here. :)

I'd say "Flicker" is a good alias. He kills people. Their lives flicker away as they are killed.

Remember it would be the press that would label him, and seeing as he's specific to LA it would be something beginning with 'The LA....' then because he cuts the throat then hacks them they'd go with that calling him something like a butcher or hacker.

'LA Butcher's bloody spree'

hell, I don't know, I'm terrible at story writing.

Depending on what borough his first few victims are from:
The Hollywood Hatchet
The Venetian Butcher
The Monterey Murderer
The Arlington Assassin

EDIT: I say go by the borough because I've noticed that Los Angeleans are usually pretty touchy about what borough they come from, as they're typically some sort of status symbol or something, like in New York (Queens, Manhatten, etc etc)

Well, a lot of killers are given names either based on location or on the specific type of victim they kill. So, you could play on specific locales in Los Angeles(you could play on City of Angels, as well).

I don't where exactly your story takes place but here are some ideas:
The SoCal Killer
The Hollywood Hitman
The Beverly Hills Butcher
The Palisades Predator

and...that's all the creative juice I have at 7:15...I don't usually do my writing until nighttime, so...not a morning person.
