Imagine opening night for MLP the movie

I like how most of the detractors in this thread can think of nothing better than to resort to "lawl male fans are pedophiles and/or 'forever alone' manchildren," yet they'd probably be the first to scream bloody murder at similar charges against gamers (and most likely have in the past). But there I go feeding the parasprites again...

I usually don't go to a movie on opening night, but I might in this scenario. It would be fun conversing with the bronies in line and listening to their inevitable banter once the movie starts.

I imagine it would be rather similar to the opening of another overhyped thing loved by a group of overly obsessive creepy people who love it no matter what despite it being inexplicable to those who don't.

I just couldn't resist.

Since when are Bronies counter-culture??
A counter-culture is when there is a certain sub-culture that defies all the norms of the overall culture. The grown men who watch a little girl's show are most certainly part of a counter-culture.

OP: It would certainly be interesting, but if Hasbro wanted to limit the clash between cultures and make a buttload of money, they could just set it to a midnight premier. I heavily doubt any little girls would be able to make it like that, so it'd be a purely brony event.

This is kinda how I imagine 2012 happening.
If so, then 2012 will be AWESOME.

I don't want to imagine that.

It gives me a headache.

Yes, we know, blah blah blah, really nice animation, blah blah blah, going against conventional gender roles, blah blah blah.

Plus, it seems to be an American fixation, there's no mention of MLP anywhere in the UK.
I agree with everything you mentioned here. And I wasn't aware that it wasn't big in the UK. There is still some hope in my heart.

The big issue I would see for a show like this is that it is hard to make a 20 minute show, like MLP, a full length movie. Really, stuff like this doesn't work often. They would have to really just step up their game in the story department and then, the fans would probably cry because it wouldn't keep the spirit of the original.

Not that I would see it anyway, but I'm just saying.

I don't think it counts as feeding the parasprites if you don't quote anyone in particular. If they're already hanging around the thread long enough to read your post then they're going to respond to someone anyway.

I'm personally most amused by the use of "in their 30s" as a pejorative.

There will be cosplay, and they will be awesome.
Will you be team Rainbow Dash or Team Twilight?
I will never be team "town bicycle!"

TEAM TWILIGHT IS THE ONLY WAY!

...

What has this show done to me?

From a conversation I had with friend once: "No! I just realized I can't tune out the word "Twilight" because Twilight is awesome!" Even I had to pause and think about that sentence...

Also, new page, new user group link:

I recommend that anyone who joins turn chat notifications off for the group as it is very active.

That may be considered advertising and you could get some kind of punishment, just to warn you.

I've done this in pretty much every pony thread for the past several months. I figure if I were going to get a warning I would have by now.

Besides, directing FiM fans to the group cuts down on the number of excess pony threads for the mods to clean up. Everybody wins!

...do the advertising rules even apply to linking other Escapist content?

Go gummy go!

I think at this point there should a gorup for every major video game series on the escapeist (points to the massive amount of skyrim threads.)

Depends on when it's released and wether or not there's a midnight showing AND wether or not it's good.

I've always thought the Discord 2 parter would have worked as a movie, but scripting a well paced episode and a well paced movie are to almost contradicting practices. Also from a demographic standpoint Hasbro still has a public image of MLP to retain so there'd be a whole lot of editing from their side of the field, which is also why a made-for-tv movie is much more likely.

Would I be there for the midnight showing? You bet I would.

Foals Pinkie Pie is clearly best pony. Who else has been able to harness the awesome power of polka?

Who says that the average brony would be willing to get out of the house for that long?

In all seriousness, what you proposed would be, indeed, horrifying. However, I don't really have much investment in the show nor it's large fan-base so I can't really say.

There's already been a movie. More than one, in fact (Obscurus Lupa reviewed the most recent one not too long ago. She suffers for our amusement!). The My Little Pony franchise is way older than just Friendship Is Magic. In fact, the franchise's history is pretty much the entire reason the concept of "bronies" exists at all.

If you mean specifically a Friendship Is Magic movie, well, that I'm not sure I could see happening, actually. The episodic format seems to work pretty well, and much as I love the art style, the thought of seeing it on the silver screen is bizarre.

I saw this posted on Ponychan, and as a person who's been on the escapist for a bit but has had a leave of absence due to many contributing factors (It's good to be back), I don't think it will be that bad. I think OP is forgetting the teen demographic of the show, such as myself. Even though there will be little girls around the ages of 8 and 9, and I won't deny that there will be people around the ages fo 20 to 30, I think a large teen audience, males and females of about 17 or 18, probably even younger, will dominate the other groups. The cosplaying I'm questioning, though. I'm not completely sure why I'm questioning it, as it can be very popular for a movie like the such (and by looking at the video about the 30 year old men, I saw one dressed up as edward), and it may even reach that. And I would be fine with it.

My guess? Everypony's going to be in diguise. Nopony wants their parents to find out they're a brony.
