Suppose that the mad scientists working in their labs one day stumble across the elixer of eternal life. Its easy to mass produce, and drinking it will make you BIOLOGICALLY immortal. This means you won't age or die from disease, but if you get cleaved in the head with an axe, you're pretty much gone. Think elf immortality.

There's a problem however. If everyone is immortal, and having kids who are also immortal, who will also have kids that are immortal, we're gonna run out of room pretty damn fast. So, the catch is that you have to get a vasectomy if you're a man or your tubes tied if you're a woman and be completely unable to have children for the rest of your ungodly lifespan.

Would you take the offer? Would you take it if it instead came not just at the cost of being able to have children, but at the cost of never having sex again?

What is so good about being Immortal and you cant even have sex? I guess you could be wasted 24/7 since you cant die anyway.

Nope, I wouldn't accept it, because without the possibility of having children in the future most of the meaning of my life would vanish. I can accomplish and experience all that I want to in this life in about 70 to 80 years before I pass on baton to my descendants to carry on for me. In my mind more happiness over would be gained from many generations of different people than one me forever (or atleast a very long time).

I could see the world end, I could have all the time in can to think, I could make myself a little stone tower up north on top of a mountain, middle of it there would be one throne on which I would sit and think... Till the world comes to an end and after that I could just float away...

So yeah, not being able to have sex but have all the time in the world to think... Much better.

That is a tough one because part of the fun of immortality is watching your decendants do things awesomely. I would probably go for immortality if I could have sex but be sterile.

No problems with that. I'd always wanted to adopt instead anyway if I ever had kids (not that I want the creepy little buggers).

As for the no-sex thing.. Aside from wondering just how they could enforce that, I'd stay mortal thanks. The only reason I'd take immortality in the first place would be to have more time with a partner, or maybe my family. If the latter was the case then I'd probably go for it.
