I'm not emo or anything nor do I think life is hell. But bad stuff happens. And if you live forever... well, all of the really bad memories you'd get the sole thought of you being stuck like that forever will drive you crazy.

realize that you can still die if you suffer physical trauma. All this immortality means is that you won't die of sickness or old age.

Live for a few millenia and cap yourself when you get bored. That would be my plan.

Well, I'd say a few hundred years are quite enough... just to see the progress and stuff...

Suppose that the mad scientists working in their labs one day stumble across the elixer of eternal life. Its easy to mass produce, and drinking it will make you BIOLOGICALLY immortal. This means you won't age or die from disease, but if you get cleaved in the head with an axe, you're pretty much gone. Think elf immortality.

There's a problem however. If everyone is immortal, and having kids who are also immortal, who will also have kids that are immortal, we're gonna run out of room pretty damn fast. So, the catch is that you have to get a vasectomy if you're a man or your tubes tied if you're a woman and be completely unable to have children for the rest of your ungodly lifespan.

Would you take the offer? Would you take it if it instead came not just at the cost of being able to have children, but at the cost of never having sex again?

I guess you miss one part of having tubes tied or vasectomy, you can still have sex, just that you can't get pregnant/ get a woman pregnant. Meaning tubes tied or vasectomy does not equal getting the ovaries or testicles removed just cutting the 1 tube that goes to it. Which many people do now, and still have shit tons of sex afterward, some married couples have even more sex after this procedure because it means they can have sex with out the risk of pregnancy. vasectomy being the most common since it is a quick and easy procedure compared to getting tubes tied which is a complicated operation.

Which if it is, I am immortal its fine to me. On the other hand, getting my balls chopped off is a NO GO. Whats the point of immortality with out a bunch of "meaningless" sex.

Yeah I become immortal and get a vasectomy, but I want to be able to have sex too.

No I think Immortality would be too hard to bear having to watch any friends/family that didn't take the same route die. Eventually you'd make new friend but it'd probably be a controversial decision to take the elixir.

Well I would like a family, but if your immortal and have the procedure after having kids it would be pretty awful to outlive them..or indeed everyone you know and love for that matter. Immortality is overrated.

So I would just live for a happy eternity and end it all if I ceased to see a meaning or enjoyment.

I don´t care about kids that much, anyway, and if the maternal instincts became to much, I could still adopt a child, or just get a dog maybe.

Nevermind the fact that if everyone is immortal then we can be sure we'll find more room soon enough: of the main reasons we don't have colonyis on other planets or jetpacks and stuff is that plans for this kind of thing and research dies with the death of the person.
