Okay so my friend just now found out I smoke weed, but to clarify not often and when I do is few and far between, now she says that nothing is better then anything (basically smoking weed is not better then smoking cigarettes) and yes I know talking about smoking weed is bad, blah blah blah, but my friend is just so blind (she believes anything the government or authority figures tell her) that I would like to shove it in her face, so what are the Pros and Cons of both Cigarettes and Weed, also the weed in question is not laced with anything, just plain old weed.

Pros? Transient, passing high.
Cons? Cancer.

Both have mild, mild benefits - both can have severe consequences.

I kind of meant make a list of both, like Ciggys....

then Weed....

Like that
Hokay.

Cigs:
Pros - Slightly increased heart-rate / may make you feel cool / once addicted, fulfilling the addiction is reward in itself.
Cons - Price / Nicotine is one of the most addictive substances known / Cancer / Causes you to smell like cigarettes / Gradually becoming unacceptable in society.

Weed:
Pros - Can get you high / Not quite as bad for you as other drugs / Jail sentences for marijuana related crimes are often lower than those associated with other drugs.
Cons - Greater risk of cancer (per usage) due to lack of filters / Paranoia / Other mental diseases / smells strongly / Good luck getting through an airport if you've even been near any in the last month or so / Suspicion of possession may lead you to get the fingers of law enforcement officials inserted into your anus.

In short - Just get drunk like everyone else.

Exactly, I don't think you can get cancer from plain old weed (unless its laced with something)

Can you get addicted to weed? (if you smoke it moderately, like once a month)

No. Last I checked, there are no addictive qualities in weed.

And I was going to edit this into my last post, but I'll just do it here.

Pros for weed, well there are quite a few actually. For one, it's been shown to be an effective treatment for cancer, as in it greatly reduces the size of cancerous tumors, and as for cons of weed....well I can't really think of any

I think they did a test and found Weed a healthier choice then Cigs... I'm sure a quick google search will show you what I'm reffering to.

But OK i'll bite.

Cigs= more addictive, more damage done, legal
Weed= Less Addictive, Less damage done, illegal in some areas.

If I had to choose between the two, I'd choose weed as I'd only smoke it maybe once a month, where as smokers probably would have a cigg once a day at the very least.

Well, both are good social devices. They are things you can do with other people. You can easily start a conversation and meet new people simply by asking, "do you need a light?"

Weed also has the added bonus of inebriation and euphoria.

They're both bad for you. Smoke is not supposed to be breathed in. I'd rather smoke ciggs, personally, as I don't like the idea of getting high.

*sigh*

Weed - Pros
High
Typically not addictive (Typically. I've known a few people who did get addicted)

Weed - Cons
Altered behavior
Illegal
Reduced focus/Focus on one particular thing

Cigs - Pros
Calming affect. Sress relief (I say bah to the studies who deny this. Bah!)
Does not affect behavior beyond light pouts of nonviolent rage
Does not affect reaction time or focus
Legal

Cigs - Cons
Cancer
Addictive

Both have their downsides, you can't say either is risk free (especially in the case of tobacco, in my opinion anyway - and I'm a smoker).

Cigarettes

- Highly addictive, a social smoker can quickly become a full time cig sucker.
- Increased risk of varying times of cancer, including lung, mouth and stomach.
- Stinks, and the smell clings to clothes (although that could be said for any type of smoke).
+ Some people find cigarettes to relax them during stressful times (thus resulting in addiction).

Cannabis

- Risk of aggravating mental health conditions, although some people feel that it can help them, whilst others feel the opposite.
- Long term, heavy use has been linked to mental health problems in prone individuals.
+ Pleasant high (for some) which can aid creativity, relaxation.
+ No deaths directly linked. Ever.

Read studies my friend. All statistical evidence that states cigarettes cause cancer use a correlation scale.
Let me educate you. A correlation scale works like this:
You study ten people who smoke, and ten people who don't smoke. At the end of the study, you'll find that seven out to the ten people who smoke were diagnosed with cancer. But to your surprise, three out of the ten who didn't smoke also were diagnosed. This is because cancer can be genetic, or can be a cause of living conditions or health risks.
So the only thing anti-smoking companies (like Truth) can say is that Smoking 'increases' the risk of you developing cancer.

Very true. Although there's no doubt that smoking can result in cancer, it's hard to say that it directly causes it.

That's why cigarette packets have "increase" and not "cause" on the label.

Weed:
Pros: Cures some pain, gets you high
Cons: Increased chances of lung cancer, and early onset dementia if used heavily. oh, and it fuels a drug war in mexico that kills a crap load of people, and some of it funds the taliban in afghanistan.

Cigs:
Pros: umm...it gets rid of tobacco cravings?
Cons: Mouth, throat, and lung cancer, tooth decay, smelling like shit ALL the time. people hating you for smelling like shit. etc.

Weed - Con
Unproductive for hours (Smoking + High)

Cigs - Con
Unproductive for 10 minutes (Smoking)

* I'm against both, but from this perspective, Cigarettes win.

While I agree that smoking probably doesn't kill as many people as they say (If you lived to 100, smoked, and died of anything related to breathing troubles, you're probably going to get added to the tally), its pretty conclusive that smoking causes cancer and death.

I just doubt its as extreme as people say. I know 2 people who never smoked a day of their life and are dead (or dying) of lung cancer. They'll probably find out I smoke and blame me.

Weed probably for the high, but it really depends how you feel about high on whether or not that's a pro or not. I feel smoking anything is merely personal preference, but there aren't any redeeming good qualities about it, just really bad ones.
Smoking keeps everyone around me safe and alive. I am slowly giving myself cancer so that I don't kill those around me.

Yeah, I know that, but to say it only increases your risk like it somewhat justifies smoking cigarettes is bullshit. Sure, cancer may be genetic but smoking not only dramatically increases your risk of cancer, but it also can give you tumors, destroy your teeth, overall just make you a more unhealthy person and makes you look like a complete asshole.
