The only thing you get from smoking cigarettes is a nice case of cancer.
Read studies my friend. All statistical evidence that states cigarettes cause cancer use a correlation scale.
Let me educate you. A correlation scale works like this:
You study ten people who smoke, and ten people who don't smoke. At the end of the study, you'll find that seven out to the ten people who smoke were diagnosed with cancer. But to your surprise, three out of the ten who didn't smoke also were diagnosed. This is because cancer can be genetic, or can be a cause of living conditions or health risks.
So the only thing anti-smoking companies (like Truth) can say is that Smoking 'increases' the risk of you developing cancer.
Yeah, I know that, but to say it only increases your risk like it somewhat justifies smoking cigarettes is bullshit. Sure, cancer may be genetic but smoking not only dramatically increases your risk of cancer, but it also can give you tumors, destroy your teeth, overall just make you a more unhealthy person and makes you look like a complete asshole.
I never understood this. How does smoking make me look like an asshole? I don't smoke around non-smokers (unless they come to me in the middle of smoking), my habit doesn't hurt anyone but me (and it might not even do that), and I don't litter. Call me a bit empty in the head if you must, but asshole? Why?

Smoking weed
(note that these are personal observations from both smoking weed and seeing others smoke weed)
Pros: None that I have observed, I pretty much sat in one spot for 6 hours straight doing nothing although some people claim an increase in creativity.
Cons: Illegal in most places, makes you dumber (or at least look that way), awful taste, reduces motivation to do anything, expensive and profit usually funds further criminal activity.

Summary: If you enjoy the high and only partake occasionally, go for it. I did not enjoy the high and will be sticking to booze and tobacco.

Cigarettes
(note that I am an avid smoker and thoroughly enjoy Camels, don't expect an unbiased opinion)
Pros: Enjoyable flavor, stimulant, not a debilitating high, comes in filtered packs, legal, and can be a social tool.
Cons: Addictive, unhealthy, expensive, profits fund an evil corporate empire.

Summary: If you enjoy the flavor and don't mind wrecking your lungs, go for it. Also useful to break the ice in conversation and have something in common to talk about in social situations.

Because generally when people smoke in public without any regard for anyone else, that makes them an asshole.

You obviously aren't one of those people though

Very true. Although there's no doubt that smoking can result in cancer, it's hard to say that it directly causes it.

That's why cigarette packets have "increase" and not "cause" on the label.
That is my point. Thank you person who actually use scientific proof to validate argumentative points. You are a new friend in my book :)
All you others who think cigarettes can solely cause cancer, read a book and educate yourself. Might as well not breath the air because after the atomic bombings of Hiroshima, our atmosphere contains traces of radiation. Just a little bit of info for you there.

Don't know if this is helpful, since you stated you don't know much about harmfulness and addiction, but here's the results from the people who test this stuff: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Rational_scale_to_assess_the_harm_of_drugs_%28mean_physical_harm_and_mean_dependence%29.svg

I felt like the biggest douche right after that comment because I felt like i let her down because just a year before i remember sayin i would never get into drinking or smoking but now i've done both. I never did weed moderatly only like every month or so with a friend but now i'm done. fyi i'm 16

Exactly, I don't think you can get cancer from plain old weed (unless its laced with something)

Can you get addicted to weed? (if you smoke it moderately, like once a month)
That's one reason it's called a "drug", it's just MORE addictive when laced.

And don't smoke any around me, because I will keel over and die.

I'm asthmatic.

Because you are in a small demographic with me. Since what we do is considered as taboo by others, they must pass laws and remain vigilant on their cause to prove us wrong. I am like you. When ever I have a cigarette, I always ask if it is okay first. I would never put anyone to a discomfort because of me. But for people to say that I'm killing them because of the one cigarette I am smoking, I laugh and argue "You eat chemically enhanced meat. Drinks that contain aspartame, and live in a house that I'm 70% sure contains asbestos.

I split my affection between Camel Wides and Camel 99's, and when the planets align and I want a menthol I go for the Turkish Jade. In Haiti we had the option of buying overpriced cartons of Winstons at the exchange or buying a $5 carton from the locals of either Newports or Camel Non-filtered, thus starting my love affair with Camel.

I'm going to not be a smug twat like I could be, instead, I'll say this:

Cigs are a waste of time and simply for addiction.

Cigars however, are great, too expensive to use enough to get addicted, taste good, good variety. Goes best with a small amount of gin, whiskey, or rum.

Weed tastes great, too. And there's getting high. And you look rebel doing it behind the fed's backs(do NOT do this). However, it does smell strong and very distinct. It's always a good icebreaker tho with potential friends. SOme of the best people I know are happy with a bag every few weekends.

Pros: None
Cons: Cancer, brain and tissue damage, reduction in athletic performance, addiction, money wasting, jail time, withdrawal, social alienation, exposing others to toxic materials etc.

Note: Cigarette butts are most likely going to be declared a toxic substance in the near future, meaning they will cost more. It is proven that the butts water ecosystems.

Note: There is no scientific link between aspertame and cancer
Edit: The radiation levels around Nagasaki and Hyroshima have for the last 40 years or so have been only negligibly higher than background, The "airbourne particles the above user speaks of speak of are non-exsistant

I rest my case.
Must I really repeat my entire rebuttal. Go back and read my posts, and then reply with a well stated counter-claim. The fact that cigarettes (or actually cigarette smoke) causes cancer is false. Please read my previous posts on this forum, thanks you.

All true, except the, "social alienation, withdrawal, addiction, money wasting, jail time"

In some countries it's legal for weed and in most countries it's legal to smoke tobacco products.

sometimes when people don't like smokers vehemently enough to steer clear of them even when they're not smoking, they're not worth knowing in the first place.

Withdrawal and Addiction: If you're consciously aware that nicotine is an addictive substance, then you can do it responsibly and you will not become addicted. And without addiction= no withdrawal.

Money wasting: ANYTHING but food, shelter, and water and clothing are money wasters. Your games, everything.

Another pro, it's 4/20, you get to celebrate a holiday with your fellow stoners.

Probably worth noting that anything can give you cancer, mate.

Pros for weed, well there are quite a few actually. For one, it's been shown to be an effective treatment for cancer, as in it greatly reduces the size of cancerous tumors, and as for cons of weed....well I can't really think of any
Ironic, then, that it's still illegal. >_>

well i cant say there are many pros to either of them. i mean you can defend it as saying its not as bad as other substances, but thats just beating around the bush. my stance is do what you want i dont care your decision as long as your an adult and know what your getting into. other than that i dont care

edit: at least you cant overdose on pot and id rather people smoke pot than drink
