Ride in on the back of a bear your first day yelling 'Bear Cavalry'! The others will know their fate.
The only true and honourable cavalry left in this bleak and horseless world...

Bear Cavalry... keeping the dream alive...

If you're getting shot at, remember, do a barrel roll.

Remember this isn't a game, you can't pause it to go take a piss or to check your inventory.

Calling your enemies or team mates "noobs" won't do you any favors.

The graphics will be awesome. Even better than Crysis, and the framerate will be splendid. All thanks to the Real Life Engine 08(tm).

Nobody is hacking.

Most importantly, keep the end of the gun with the hole pointed at your enemies.

And remember: If at first you don't succeed...Goodbye.

Good luck.

Haha, I leave on the 7th. Good luck buddy. What is your MOS?
27 Delta Paralegal Specialist. Desk job, easy, safe, how I want it. But if my dreams of stardom don't fall through within the next four years, and I don't have anything going for me, I'm gonna go Psychological Operations, since I'll be going to college for a Psychology degree once I'm back anyways.

You?
Explosive Ordnance Disposal. But not sure where I'm going after AIT.

That's a pretty combat-priority job, man. Good luck with that. Are you looking to ship out?

Take down the biggest, baddest dude in the camp and make sure everybody sees.

From that point onward, basic should be a breeze.

Best of luck, just remember to take your samurai sword to deflect bullets. That thread is over, leave it alone.

Yeah but seriously, hope it goes well. By the time your back I'll have been before the Army Officers Selection Board to be a British Army Officer.

It is apparent you are definetly older than me then, haha. I'm only 18, man. It's barely legal for me to join, haha. And by 23, I may be an officer myself depending on how things play out for me.

Hell yeah.
Well dude, you're a better man than me for that. I'm basically, as one captain put it, "Pimpin' the Army" for money. Atleast at this point. Good luck and stay safe.

How freaky would it be 3 years down the line or something if we bumped into each other on a cross-forces project? It's becoming a strange world!

They said that 23 was probably a good age, they sometimes find it difficult for the youngest (around 18) to exert control of 30 year old squadies! Narrow window, I've probably only got 2 years where I can keep trying for it. But the US system is completely different for officers isn't it?

I still find it weird that a NCO would have to quit from the army to re-apply to Sandhurst to become a full officer, that's Britain for you I guess.

You don't just get accepted into the SAS, you need to train hard and then put yourself forward for selection. You then go through a rigorous selection process that lasts for a month, over 100 men will get to selection and only around 10 will make it through.

Also my advice Ares is remember to point your gun in the right direction.

Which is why, if I were ever to apply for the British Army, I'd be trying to go in straight as a commissioned officer. However, I doubt that will happen for a number of reasons, including discipline and the amount of work required for me to become fit enough, and the fact that I'd be far superior as a scientist (even from a military context) or a doctor of some sort.
If it's something you want to do the work is possible. I got myself down from 18 stone (250lbs) to 15 (210lbs) over about 6 months from just running. I still have a way to go fitness wise but I'm getting there.

I've always been more academic than physical (hence the 18 stone) but the recruiting officer said they need smart officers who can be whipped into shape. Not fit idiots.

Way I figure it is, I'm never going to challenge myself mentally at anything in particular. I work in an office, I will be successful if I sit it out for 10 years. So I thought I'd try my hand at the hardest thing I could do.

I go to AF Basic in April for cryptolinguistics. Gonna be a hell of a ride. Have fun in basic, and come back and give us your stories of grandeur and shit.

How am I going to get my Bob Ross fix for 10 weeks? :D

Remember that boot camp is all a mind game - and take Khell's advice about staying out of the Navy. Sometimes I think I would've been better off in the Army or Air Force.

Good luck to ya.
