Scenario: You've been on a long journey to kill your enemy. If this was a book/movie the audience would be rooting for you to storm into the lair of your enemy and have an epic final showdown. and normally you would. You have your reasons to want this person dead, whatever reason it may be, they may be planning to destroy a city or they have murdered your whole village, or another "justifiable" reason to end this person's life.

However when you burst into where your enemy is, blood stained from all the minor threats in the way, with rock music blaring in the background, you notice your enemy sitting down... with their child. Under normal circumstances you would have engaged your enemy to a fight to the death (or just shoot them in the face) and settle matters, but how would this child affect your next actions? (if at all)

Edit: The child in this scenario is 12 years old.

Wouldn't affect me at all, I stick to my guns.
If said chap has wronged me, he shall prepare to be wronged in return!!!

One day, that child will seek me out for revenge.

And I will await him.

For the cycle of revenge never ends.

Wasn't this part of the first Bourne movie?
I'd kill the kid, one life added to all the tohers I've taken won't matter much.

That's why you kill them now. Get one up on the system. It's like why you don't send people to kill someone, do it yourself and why you don't explain your plans to the hero, you just kill the bastard.

Meh, my anger would have probably worn off by that stage anyway.
I'd ask them if they could make me some tea, and then I'd be on my way.

You never know, they may return the favour at some stage in the future.

Depends what they man/woman/sentient robot had done. If it was serious enough for me to slaughter my way through his badly played security guards (many of whom will have kids themselves), I would do a kill Bill to the Kid "Trust me they deserved it".

I'm not really one for vendetta, but whatever.
I guess I'd just nuke his town instead. (not)

Anyway, if I'd just slaughtered his lackeys on the way, I'd be seriously hypocritical not to kill him.
I don't care for the kid, if he gets revenge later on, that's fine by me.

I wouldn't be able to kill them.
Dammit, when they have a child, it always stumps me :|
Unless of course the kid is already and evil little SoB.

Kill the Dad, tell the kid to that he may hate me if he wishes and has every right to try and avenge his father one day.

Then we wait for the Sequel.

Wouldn't affect me at all.

Depending on how reasonable the person was I'd ask him if he wanted to have the kid leave and not see him die, but if he hadn't shown anything to prove he was capable of being talked to, he'd get shot soon as, kid there or not.

It's against the rules, man.

You don't disobey the rules.

This is how it must be.

Kill the child!

His father killed my whole family, why should I spare his?

To death with them all by eye gauging and whatever I can come up with that involves barbed wire.

I'd kill him, probably the kid too. No kid to grow up to kill me later on, so take it all out at once
