Tomorrow, March 4th, will be the anniversary of Gary Gygax's death. As I'm sure you know, Gygax created Dungeons & Dragons, and is generally considered the father of modern role-playing games. It is safe to say that, if it had not been for D&D, the CRPGs so many of enjoy would certainly be extremely different from how they are, and may not have even existed at all.

As such, I suggest that all D&D players carry their dice with them tomorrow, in memory of him.

To further honour his memory, I suggest that this thread be used for anecdotes and stories of D&D games you have been in. Try to make them entertaining; there's no point in being maudlin. After all, I think we can safely assume that he's already rolled another character.

I carry my dice and character sheets with me at all times both to honour Gygax and Arneson, and to be able to fight Beholders whenever the need arises.

Damn, it's been a year already? I'll remind the players at our game Sunday night! We'll raise our glass (filled with tasty alcohol) to him!

Oddly enough i happen to always carry my dice with me, partially due to the many random on the spot games i have been drafted into over the years, and partially because a D20 hanging around your neck is one hell of a way to pick up chicks :3

Tomorrow is our guild's roleplay night on DDO. Will have to see if they want to do anything special in memory. Can't believe it's been a year already.

The image above (if correct) would make it the second anniversary, but hey! What do I know?

Hail and Farewell, old friend.
May your blade be ever Vorpal, your 20's always natural,
and your Treasure always double standard.

rolling in your grave is usually saying that the living is blaspheming your legacy...

Hmmm DnD memories...

The one where I got my character killed on my birthday comes to mind - it was a really good thing actually, a proper last stand for a character who really couldn't be allowed to survive the encounter (there was no justification left for him to avoid killing half the party).

Or the game where my character's familiar (I was playing a high level wizard) was the second smartest member of the party and tried to act like a highwayman. That was also the game where we one-shot a hydra two levels above us courtesy of a massively buffed up barbarian (don't do drugs kids) and later had said barbarian do a pec dance for the queen of the realm whilst the raven squawked a tune.

Or maybe my favourite is my first game of 3rd Ed when I made a half-orc wrestler in spiked armour and took part in an adventure entirely based around cheese, fighting Gouda-ogres and Brie-trolls.

And then there are the games I've DMed, probably highlighted by Dan's lootwhore-coward or what happened when I let loose an orc druid/ranger/bloodhound on the party.
