In the Wild

I had an idea for a video game which could easily be adapted to any console or the PC. In the game you play as a wolf and try to survive in the wild. You start out as a young cub, and as you age and grow stronger you can hunt for prey. With current gen viscreal graphics, such a game could be mind-blowing. Imagine hunting down a deer in the forest, or prehaps if the game includes an arctic setting, hunting down a polar bear with your pack. You could also challenge the leader of the pack, or find a mate and make your own pack.

If anyone has any ideas, or comments about how to make this game better in some way, put them here.

There already is a game like that. It's for some national park promotion.

That sounds very interesting... and if it was made, something I would follow... and maybe buy. I can't really think of any improvements... but I think it does need something extra...

the concept of your game sounds remarkable, but I would rather play a a dinosaur, preferably a raptor like in Jurassic park (I can never remember their names), so that I could do all the stuff like the wolf but in a prehistoric setting.

One word: Furries.

In all seriousness, any appeal the game could have would be completely bastardized by furries who would get off on playing the game just to start a pack. I can't enjoy a game knowing such a large amount of sick people get off to it.
You don't seem to know what furry is. Also people have gotten off on worse things, i.e: guro.
OT: That sounds like it might be an interesting game.

I wasn't actually thinking that there would be animations for that, it's not necessary. I would like to see some gratuitous dog fighting and bloodshed. Also, a stealth aspect to this type of game would be very important. There may even be one or more levels were you have an option to either run from humans hunting you or kill them. I was also thinking there could be a revenge plot, where a hunter has killed one of your cubs or your mate, and you stalk into thier living area and make a midnight snack outta them.

Well, at least it will have a small but loyal following. That's only if if a mating mini-game is added...

Discovery Channel's website had a game similar to this years ago. It was a text based game where you play as a newly hatched Allosaurus. It was largely based on luck though...I met my mother and she ended up eating me xD

Anyway, this sounds like a sweet idea for a game! I think the only game similar to this that has been done recently was the Spider vs Scorpion on the Wii...which I haven't played since it is exclusive...looked good though and I'm surprised there aren't more games based on nature and animals in general [not a hippy]

This sounds like what the creature portion of Spore should have been, minus the ability to create and evolve your own species.

And I think that customization aspect is an important one, as it adds both a personal touch to your creature whilst also benefiting game play in the form of new methods of interacting with the environment. That's the kind of game I would want to play. Your game locks you into one, stagnant species in a very realistic environment. In real life, most of a wolves life does not involve the exciting pursuit of prey. A much larger portion of the game would just be wandering, sleeping, and scavenging. That's not something I can see you stretching out across an entire game.

So no, I don't see your idea lasting as its own game. You would need to add more to it, probably in ways you don't want as the game would move away from realism. There is still old E3 footage of the original Spore creature stage. I believe that had potential, so you might want to look at it.

I could settle for realistic aspects, as opposed to pure realism. I don't want COD-Wolf, and I am pretty sure no one else does either. The game could be plot driven as well, a multi-path storyline. Things like gradual evolution could be demonstrated by improvements in your wolf stats, so maybe bring some RPG elements to bear. Of course not everything in the game would be "An average life of an average wolf in an average forest" , in fact nothing would or it would suck and would not even begin to encompass what I would hope from a game like this. Custimization of your wolf would be awesome, another cool feature might be retaining battle scars.

If the wolf had a gun in its mouth, then I'd want COD-Wolf. Just throwing that out there.

In all seriousness, I'd be interested if this actually got developed.

A game like that would actually be pretty interesting but there should be more options of animals to chose from

That doesn't sound like a half bad idea, actually. If I might propose something, what about making part of the storyline encroaching human territory? I have no idea how it could be implemented, but maybe one of the goals or something at the end could be to migrate to a national park or something.
