Without trying to change this into a religious thread, Jesus has influenced the world more than any other human being I would say.
I would say Hitler has influenced more actually.
No. Think about it, has Hitler done more to the world, good or bad, then Christianity has? For instance, think of all the moments that Christian's would love to forget (the Crusades, for instance), then add in all the good things Christianity has done (a ton of African help is initiated by Christian organizations, for instance), and Hitler is a little blip in a timeline dominated by Jesus' influence.

Whether you are Christian or not, whether you believe in an all-powerful deity or not, the fact is that the human being called Jesus did exist, and has influenced history... a shitload.

Psh Jesus was nothing compared to Moses, dude parted the seas, climbed a big ass mountain and chatted with god, plus he had a kid when he was 90 way to go gramps.... lets not mention that he almost dabbled in a little child sacrifice later on :D
Yeah, but was Moses literally God? What's better, parting the Red Sea, or creating the universe? I'm not talking bad about Moses, but Jesus pretty much wins this one.
So Jesus=God now? Seriously, I suppose not being all that religious has left me rather ignorant of most biblical matters but sense when did Jesus create the universe?
Without trying to get way too religious in an off-topic forum, yes the convential Christian belief is that Jesus=God, hence the Incarnation, i.e. God in the flesh. And yes, that same passage in John also says that "through Him all things were made," implying that in a sense, Jesus did create the universe. Granted, there are plenty of denominations (and 90% of the Escapist) that disagree, but I just felt like offering a little education on the matter. :)

Anyway, Jesus is prob the most obvious answer - no one's had a greater impact on history, one way or the other - though the list of "greatest human being" candidates is admittedly quite small.

Karl Marx or Satan... I love them both so much I can't decide... I guess I'll go with Marx since he was actually real...

Not to try and start a religious debated or anything, but this is what bothers me about that... people say that there was a man named jesus and it has been proven. Ok, so there was a guy that was alive, that doesn't mean anything or everything he did was real/true. That is like saying they found a lost piece of the trojan horse and therefor the whole Iliad was true.

I'll join the Jesus bandwagon, despite being an atheist. I think his teachings were revolutionary.

The problem is what people did with his teachings and his image. The Catholic Church, for example, still claims to be the official church of Jesus and has used and continues to use that as justification for all kinds of terrible things. It's about power and control, and what better way to get it is to fool people into thinking you got Jesus on your side?

Jack The Ripper. Just Jack The Ripper. He was an amazing visionary, and his actions paved the path for... Um.... Something!

In all seriousness, probably Da Vinci, or Van Gogh. Both are amazing.

Yes he has. You are just thinking about what Hitler did himself. Long story short Hitler basically wrote world history after 1940. Jesus only did so for Europe and parts of eastern Asia and occasionally the Middle East but Genghis Khan did more of that. Although thanks to Jesus' influence we are 1000 years behind in technology so you may be right. However, I think all the bad both people have caused does not outweigh the good so neither of them qualify for "Greatest Person EVAR!!". Although it is impossible to say who the greatest person is since there are so many degrees of it. What about the guy who invented the wheel? Or the guy who invented weaponry(though that may be another ape)? Surely they influenced the world more than anyone else.

Adolph Hitler, in my opinion.

He took a downtrodden nation, completely stripped of everything that could possibly sustain it...and turned it into a global super-power that could have easily held off the united might of several countries, by itself. American and British governments both agree that if Hitler hadn't have gone after Russia, he would have made the war last several more years, if not win it entirely.

Not to mention he was a flawed person, so all in all an ordinary man with an extraordinary ability to lead. If you look past the bad things he's done, you get a man who wasn't a Saint, he wasn't a Villain. He was just a man who had a dream, and sought to earn this dream in any way he possibly could.

To quote Harry Potter like the geek I am: "He did many great things. Terrible! Yes...but great."

-------------

My second choice, however...would be Abraham Lincoln. That man was a living saint. I do wonder how the United States would be if he had lived through his term as President.

No single person can be considered the greatest person in history, there are too many choices for too many different reasons.

Lt. General Romeo Dallaire. That man has gone through hell and dragged god knows how many poor bastards out of it. If the word Hero can be applied to anyone, it's him
