no,you miss the point.i dont listen to metal JUST because it doesnt appeal to popular folk.but one of the defining factors of metal IS being different,so im just saying if your average joe soap loved Testament and had slayer carved on his chest....it wouldn't be as appealing to you and i
I don't really care what everyone else thinks, metal is my favorite. I don't care if everyone and their mother loves metal, nor do I care if I'm the only one that's heard of it.

One thing that DOES get me going is liking things that everyone else likes just because everyone else likes it.

I don't really understand why people try to get people to listen to different music. People like what they like. I mean if someone is open to listening to something new, by all means let them listen. But if they don't like it, they don't like it.

People's opinions are like assholes, everyone has one, and all of them stink

Eggo is going to love this thread...

Anyway I'm not massively into metal although I have friends that are but I still like it. Most of the popular metal bands people listed I used to listen to when I was younger.

What I can't stand is that death metal or whatever its called.

I pretty much like most genres of metal and rock. I think metalheads get labeled way too much these days. About a month ago a friend of mine was listening to the killers(Mr. Brighteyes) and a kid came up to us and said "Hey,you like this song?" My friend and I both said yes and the kid said "You two are fuckin goths!"...We got called goths for listening to the killers!

My music tastes lie in the likes of Marilyn Manson, KoRn, System of a Down, Slipknot, Rob Zombie, Manowar and others along these lines,

Are there any fellow moshers within the ranks of the escapist or am i alone in the world?
I think I just fell deeply, deeply in love with either you, or your musical tastes. Also, Scuzz is officially the patron saint of modern rock/metal.

Moshers UNITE!

YES! good suggestion sir. If all the world's moshers united we could probably take over a country and set up a perverted government and make up strange laws and things.

I think Russia would be good.

If anyone here listens to Combichrist, Icon of Coil, VNV Nation, Apoptygma Berzerk, Panzer AG, or Goteki, I'll pee my pants in joy.

yet you are the only one who seems to give a damn, thers nothing wrong with shrinking yer script as long as it is still legible. and in my opinion the person going hyper over a few spelling errors is more likely to look like a "fuckwit" than the one making tha mistakes. If ye have a problem with text in future heres an idea, stfu or at least keep a little decency in tha forum.

I was a metal head for a year. but all the bands you mentioned were all considered to be the wannabe mosher commercial music by my friends, no offence intended. I was more into the Norwegian black metal Gorgoroth, 1349 etc most commercial band I saw was probs Lamb of God for industrial I was rather partial to skinny puppy.

now a days it's all about Drum n Bass for me.

You've been listening to the wrong music (they are industrial, but they really suck) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pz0TuTN6h6k&feature=related

Meh, TG are about 10 times better in the context of a whole album, Second Annual Report especialy is POWERFUL.

I've been meaning to check out KMFDM for aaaaages now, don't know why I didn't, this track is really good, it also reminds me a bit of The Horrorist who they were probably quite a big influence on.

Most pre-90s rock music is pretty good, but by far the best modern musician is Peter Tagtgren. He's fronted several death metal bands, most recently Hypocrisy, and he writes and performs all the parts in his industrial metal project PAIN (which is currently my favorite band).

It suddenly occurred to me...has anyone ever done a study correlating intelligence and music preference? Do smarter people like more complex stuff? Is that why simplistic songs are so popular? Is that why I like more complex stuff like what Tagtgren writes?

In Flames, Sevendust, Kamelot, Tool, Karnivool and The Butterfly Effect would have to be my metal selection.

Hard rock/ alternative would include Franz Ferdinand, Incubus, Muse, The Mars Volta, Smashing Pumpkins, Staind, Soundgarden, and Thice. Oh, and how could I forget The Presidents of the USA.

I enjoy most music to be honest, as long as is consists of instruments, skill and some thought. Rap and techno = bollocks.
