They are bland and tasteless, mainly because the whole band revolves around how fast they can play. This sort of thing appeals to some people, mainly teenagers who say "epic" a lot. The band is formed on a gimmick, not how well they play, not how good their songs are, and not how good their shows are. People listen to this band because "zomg they play so fast!" which does not in any way appeal to me at all.

I'm sure there are bands out there that can play just as fast, but actually have some depth to their songs.
That's very prejudice of the band and the fans. Or to phrase it even better...

Yes, but its an educated prejudice.

And dropping "Thats your opinion" is the biggest argument killer and most frustrating thing someone can do. The OP asked for my opinion so I gave it, you dont agree with it, try coming up with a counter argument instead of playing the "thats just what you think" card.
Okay, do I seem lika an "epic" teenager? I don't love them for their solos, it's the singing that kept me coming. There's more to their fanbase than prepubescent kids who can't tell a guitar from a plank. And a band doesn't need depth to be good. Look at bands like Rob Zombie, Nitzer Ebb, Marilyn Manson, etc.

A lot of people hate it because it became "mainstream" on GH3.
Yeah this is why quite a lot of people lost interest in them, when 12 year olds start to like something some people stop liking whatever it is.

I would wager that you are not part of their target demographic and thus, in the minority of their fans (notice I said "Mainly teenagers"). This is proven further when you say you don't like them for their solos, which is clearly what the band is based around.

A band can certainly be entertaining without depth but for it to be anything more than for fun, the band has to have something pretty great.

I don't hate them at all, though I'm hardly a fan - their songs are entertaining but they all start to blur together, so there's nothing to really connect me to them. And the guitar wankery... yeah, when your solos are longer than the rest of the song, you've subverted what a solo is supposed to be.

On the other hand, their vocalist didn't have an annoying voice, they didn't use jarring or dissonant musical structures, or any of the other "musical sins" bands can commit to get me to stop listening to them entirely.

At least I can take solace in the knowledge that I was mildly favorably inclined towards them before I found out they had a song in Guitar Hero, as I'd hate to be thought of as somebody swayed by a silly rhythm game.

Power Metal is awesome. Dragonforce is just okay.

No no, he is a teenager - his profile says he's 16 as of this year. I believe he's trying to make the point that he's not the typical teenager.

Now me, I'd say if the singing is what keeps him listening to Dragonforce, he should really give Masterplan, Nocturnal Rites, Falconer, Dream Evil, Serenity, Sonata Arctica, Blind Guardian, or pretty much ever power metal band in existence a listen. ZP Theart is a better singer than the vocalists from some power metal bands from a technical standpoint, but even a slightly less solid voice singing way more interesting lyrics is going to sound better by comparison (seriously though, listen to Falconer - Theart has nothing on Mathias Blad).

Music is more about your mind than your physics. You can have the looks, the attitude, and the talent, but if all your songs are unoriginal, uninspired, and just sound like crap, well, you are pretty much crap.

This applies to everyone, not just Dragonforce.

In other words, all the people complaining about "Studioforce" have their heads up their asses, and the people who love the music for the emotional invocation and generally awesome fantasy themes are correct?

Haven't a clue what you mean.
I'm just stating why I hate certain artist, and the fact that they're so popular. Most people who listen to Dragonforce and bands like them only because they're "hardcore". I, for one, don't give a damn about how hard a band "rocks", I just want something catchy and rhythmic, not just random wailing on a guitar.

Besides, I'm pretty sure they're fake.

Mind over physics. Who cares if they speed their music up in studio if it still invokes and communicates the emotion behind it?

Ah. And here I consider them to "rock" because their music is catchy and rhythmic. Just me, I guess.

Besides, I'm pretty sure they're fake.
Like Gorillaz?

I don't think they went in with the mentality "let's make stuff so fast that teenagers who failed music class will think it's cool". They're just a power metal band, just more focused on playing fast.

It's a shame that people hate them so much, I personally like them and even saw a live concert here in Philadelphia at the Theater of the Living Arts. While I was there I did see a bit too many kids and middle aged people so I felt a bit out of place. Still enjoyed it though. This made me think of a rant now thanks!

They speed up their music and every one of their songs sounds the exact same. In my opinion anyway.

Why does everyone say that they have such bad live performances? I've seen them live multiple times, and every time, they were great (that is, better than the studio version).

I have a hard time believing I saw their only good concerts and every other time they've been pure shite, so I have to ask, are people actually saying that from personal experience, or simply because that's what they've heard everyone else say?

They have found a formula that works but they stick to it far too much, each album now is exactly the same as the last. Valley of the Damned is still my firm fave for this reason

Well, a lot of their songs sound pretty much the same, and while thier stuff's impressive technically, I find it hard work to sit and listen to them. Finally, I went to see them live, and they were awful. Drunk onstage, which in turn affected their ability to play, insulting to the fans, and actually pretty bad sounding once they were out of the studio.

I do listen to them from time to time, but that's put me off them a fair bit.

too fast to listen to comfortably. i just zone out and they all blend together. i listened to their first album once and once only. talented but a show off band.

also, never give up the guitar. taking up guitar is the best thing you can ever do.
Wrong, taking up bass is the best thing to do

OT: The main reason is that they can't play that fast, sure in the studio, after 1000 tries they can, but I heard they suck live (pun intended)

I think it's a case of "yes... yes ok... YES ALRIGHT! WE KNOW! YOU CAN PLAY VERY, VERY FAST!" and after that... there's not much to them.

and two, you have "fans" who only know Through the Fire and the Flames, which really ticks me off too.
If it makes you feel better, this is the only one of their songs I own, and I had it BEFORE GH3 came out. (I have it through pure luck and an insane cousin.)
