Inglourious Basterds: Like, Hate, or Meh?

I was really dissapointed. It didn't have enough of a back story for the Basterds, so it just felt like watching a bunch of random, nameless people in a war. Also, it would have been better if they showed us all the stuff that the Basterds actually did to become so infamous, instead of going from "assemble a crack military team" and skipping right to "We are the most feared soldiers in the war"

This! There were a few enjoyable scenes in it for sure, but ultimately a let-down....

I personally liked it. It was no District 9, but it was proably one of the better movies I saw in 2009 and that's got to count for something right?

I hate this movie with a passion. It's duller than dirt and for a movie called 'Inglorious Basterds', it was hardly about the basterds at all. Nope, it's pretty much three hours of anyone but. And I have no problem with subtitles, but Jesus Christ! If I wanted to read, I would have stayed home and read a damn book. (oh wait, the only reason I saw that god awful movie was because I was kicked out w/ my brothers for a few hours.)

This comment gives me a headache.
But, really, there's meaningful subtext to the title. The "Basterds" weren't just Raine and his company but all of the major players in their own ways lived up to the title "inglourious basterds". They all made morally ambiguous choices (at best!)and I think the title reflects that.

As far as the subtitles--ever watch anime with subtitles? Or any foreign films? I'm guessing not.

But you should remember that every commercial/trailer/etc. focused on those guys and showed next to nothing of the french lady, the nazi officer and/or the nazi soldier. So imagine my (and probably everyone else) surprise when only a chapter and a half or so of the movie was about that group of people.
And I do watch foreign films, but not all that often. (don't watch movies so much. Prefer reading a good book and/or playing video games.) Anime, almost never watch it. (do wish I could see it more often though.)

THIS IS FUN. Like, like, like. I am glad they did not exclude killing Hitler and make it all be just another of 1000 and 1 stories during WWII. I mean, damn, did you see his face while he was getting shot? He started looking like Freddy Kruger.

Haha, indeed that was one of the scenes that made the movie awesome.

I'm shocked to find that some people have stated there was too much talking.. in a bloody Tarantino film? Just.. I'm speechless, you fellas should just stick to watching the Transformers movies.

Or films that have meaningful and interesting dialogue as opposed to pseudo-intellectual masturbation. I mean, either way, right?

Whilst I agree that most of the dialogue within Tarantino films aren't meaningful (in as much as it has little revelance to the plot). I disagree that it isn't interesting, When I go to watch a film by Tarantino it's about the dialogue first and then the action. There are plenty of films which are heavy on the action and they are meant for audiences who want that. Tarantino films are a bit more then that, self-referential, multi-stranded narrative and irrelevant but well written dialogue. I just don't understand why people in the thread are stating that there was too much dialogue and too little action, when it was directed by a director whos films follow that exact same formula.


...and i take back my statement about Transformers, no-one should be subjected to that, no matter what type of films they prefer.

Personally hated it. Not for the gore, i just found that i had so much dialog thrown at me that i stopped giving a shit and wanted something else to happen, and it didn't. I found it to be a one trick movie and it didn't appeal to me, and i put that down to personal taste. Acting was good though, pity he should have given each plot its own movie to give all the actors a decent shot.

I loved it.
Tarantino has got great story-telling down.
Great action, sure, but a real focus on characters and dialog.
One of my favourite scenes was the opening scene at the farm-house.

The tension, the dialog, the characters...just an awesome, great scene.
If anyone knows characters, it's Taratino.

Great movie.

One of the chapters focused way too much on a character I didn't like at all and I wish died in a fire.
Ironically, I think she did too. Sorta, well almost.

And I LOVED Christoph Waltz in this movie. Hans was quite the magnificent bastard. And I loved it.

I enjoyed the movie. Nothing by Tarantino I think will be bigger or better than his two Kill Bill movies, but Basterds was good. It was at least better than Deathproof, which just got dull for the majority in the film.
