Just thought I'd post this here...

Kinda frightening voice, but good points, nonetheless.

I dealt with the whole misogyny thing myself so I know where he's coming from.

You should check out Gates of Wil (Satanic Comedy Show)

I just watched the first one, on informational validity. Pretty interesting.

Each video is too short to really get into the meat of any of the subjects, but he does a very good job of summing up the idea in about 2 minutes. Seems like a good jump off point for someone looking into understanding and intelligent thinking as topics.

I could do without the gimmicky "shady superior voice" thing though.

Good recommendation.

Also -Ulven-, Gates of Will sounds interesting. Got a link, or any information to give?

I will warn you though that this show does have a more interest in gay rights, religion and so forth beliefs and rational thoughts around it... but it goes up in the same alley. The guy also knows what he speaks of.

And he goes around some subject with a more dark humorous tone.

Actually, Red Dead Redemption as far as humanist philosophy and political science go. A lot of people felt some of the pondering was out of place, but I thought it fit in very well.

Video 1 - "Agree with me or you're surely less intelligent" - paraphrased.

Video 3 - "The worst thing you can do is prejudge another human being".

Video 4 - "Models are stupid and boring people".

Am I the only one thinking the guy is a douche?

- Fake authorative tone.

- Generally arrogant disposition.

- Oblivious to own hypocrisy.

- Hokey imagery...

At his best he is stating the obvious or relaying already popular theories, at his worst he's being assuming and arrogant.

Don't be so quick to let him influence you...I think that was actually some advice that he gave early on.

After seeing all the videos, I have to sadly agree to this. Th guy does not reflect on the thoughts and matters... he rather tells you how "it is" and calls you dumb if you doubt.

I can definitely see how he's not for everyone, but I don't know what "popular theories" you mean...

"Some men hate women"
"Racism is silly"
"We're obsessed with sex and use it to validate ourselves"

You've seriously not heard this stuff a hundred times? I still can't get over how he insists that pre-judging people is about the worst thing you can do, and then continues to write off anyone who's done modelling work as a "'tard".

He's clearly got a chip on his shoulder, and the phony voice and imagery make it seem like he's trying to mythologise himself...I just can't take it seriously.

From WHERE?

And it's not the conclusions but the path that leads him there that interests me.

"Some men hate women", sure, but WHY? The fairytale imagery we saw as children led many men to believe early on that women = princesses and that they were perfect beings and we're unworthy of their affection. Me and pretty much every male friend I had were all guilty of this, putting women on pedestals and not understanding why they turned out to be just as flawed as we are.

"Racism is silly". I think he's shooting more for why racism has no foundation because there will always be a person of every race who agrees with you on all issues. Also, because many people DO see something done by a member of a certain race and assume that every member of that race feels that way. How many people still think that the terrorists of 9/11 are an example of every Islamic person and their feelings about the US? You'd be surprised....

"We're obsessed with sex and use it to validate ourselves". THIS is something we've heard a hundred times? Really? Because I don't think this gets said enough. I've met too many people who just didn't care about stepping on others in the quest for sexual validation. Apparently, they didn't get the memo, either.

Maybe YOU have this stuff all figured out, but I apparently don't. I was perfectly willing to put up with Maddox and his condescending tone because I found him hilarious (and a bit of a spectacle). I've no problem putting up with this guy's eccentricities if he has something good to say.

If you don't like his tone, fair enough (it's probably the worst part of the whole thing, though I don't think a calm, new age type would do any better) but I don't think this stuff is as common knowledge as you say it is...

Fair enough, I guess I under-estimate how much of a nerd I am sometimes...

I really don't mean to harp on you about it or anything, it's just that it's a message I rarely see and I think we need to see more of (even in a weird package).

Sorry OP; your video didn't really do it for me. The guy reminds me of a kid, to be honest. One of those high school wannabe-intellectuals who thinks he's a lot smarter and deeper than he actually is. There may be some substance to what he says but the manner in which he presents himself makes it hard for me to take him seriously.

But on the topic of interesting philosophical video series, I've found these ones by Alan Watts to be pretty insightful.

There are people who do this alot better, are more insightful, put more thought into it and are generally more charismatic. See Charlie Brooker(Newswipe and Screenwipe, as well as his books), Christopher Hitchens, Voltaire, Stefbot(if online vids are your thing), hell...Tim Minchin imparts less contrived philosophy in his stand up and his songs. Stephen Hughes is great in that regard too.

It's great if you're starting to take an interest in examining existence, natural and human construct. It'll free your mind of some of the bullshit stresses of life. There is just better, more sincere stuff out there.

I'm honestly not trying to be an asshole...

I know, and you're not coming across that way, don't worry.

I think it has to come down to "to each, their own" when philosophy is involved. Something that will work for one might not for another and vice versa. Often, Maddox trolled his readers and typically gets reactions out of them. Despite the fact that he's often said things I disagree with, I saw through that for the satire that it was. I see through the angry veneer with this guy.

I watched the Alan Watts video and it states something that's obvious to me. Also, even the most success-driven people I know still "stop and smell the roses". Again, to each, their own.
