please note that i am NOT american, nor was i born in america, nor do i have american roots...

i fucking love this game. i follow the nfl, play madden (when it doesnt cheats or plain sucks), play for 2 football (or handegg, depending on what you drink in the morning) teams, and pretty much would be glad to make a living out of this game in any way possible.

also, im aware more and more that some americans feel that football (handegg) is stupid, senseless, and plain barbaric, showing the infinite stupidity of america, and find football (soccer)/rugby to be much more exciting etc.
i think (though i could just be plain wrong and ignorant in many ways) that these feeling have to do with the persons personality (not wanting to follow the flow mindlessly or however you will call it).
i would also like to note that in where i live, its excactly opposite, when the majority think that soccer is the greatest sport in the world, when handegg just doesnt make any sense at all, while a minority think that handegg is the second coming of jesus himself (well that cant be right, since most of us are jews, but ill roll with it), and that soccer is pretty useless...
if you live in america, where handegg roams free, please reply to this post, as im always interested to hear a second opinion

I don't see the appeal. No wonder no other country plays it - they spend half of the game standing about, and the rest doing crappy clashes with shitloads of armour on. It's just not as persistent and dynamic as rugby or football.

Hand-egg, as it should be called, is inferior to rugby, from which it is derived, because the players wear protection.

why do you think no other country plays football? first there is the CFL (canadian football league), which is pretty known and is of decent quality.
second, there was a europian (american) foorball leage, though i think it collapsed a few years ago.
and then there is the IFL (israeli football league), though that one will take a few years to be a professional league.
just outright saying that american football isnt played anywhere is completely wrong (even if not as internationally as soccer (football for the brits).

your opinions about the game are your opinions, and even though i disagree, you have every right to hold your opinions (i can try to convince you otherwise, but something tells me my words will fall on deaf ears).

EDIT:

I can't take my nation's sport; Football, seriously.

I'm in the USA, and many people do not know of the glorious sport that is rugby! American football is for pussies compared to rugby players!

Ah, and as far as the padding goes... grab your rugby buddies, get all of you in two lines facing each other from five feet away, and sprint into each other.
We called that tackle practice at my old RUFC.
Oh, I've done it with just oneother guy that I can trust. (It's called heads up in 'merican footsie), but the line creates added chaos.
We didn't do one on one tackle practice that often. That's only good for pre-season knocking the rust off remember how to take a tackle or refining personal technique.

People get stepped on because of that chaos, Which would be okay if a cleat to head step, accidental or otherwise, wasn't... debilitating, to say the least.
I've had my forehead torn open by boot sprigs in games, common for rugby forwards during a ruck. You get blood binned and get it stiched, glued or bandaged then you're back on unless your head got so badly stomped they had to stretcher you off the field in the first place.

The separated shoulder that's not too nice but I've been in two games where it's happened to another player and they just got it popped in and carried on (after a lot of swearing)...again hardly a show of badassery.
It's more a show of a collapsed scrum.

I don't see why people like watching football at least if you watch American football or rugby (which is manlier) you can see people getting the carp beat into them (in a way).

Strange how Americans think their version is Football since it's using the name of an English sport to rename another English sport that doesn't allow kicking and add pads to it, thinking protection makes it cooler.
And then they rename the original as if nobody were to notice. Why is the UK the only country to still call it Football?
IS the UK the only country to call it football?

Fifa = International Federation of Association Football
Uefa = Union of European Football Associations

Seems to me most of the world thinks its football except the usa

Less stoppages and maybe i'd enjoy it.
Sorry but if I want to see that I would rather go watch some European/Australian football. You know the one without the ridiculous huge plastic pats and helmets. The only protection they get is a bit to prevent from all their teeth being beaten out.
Speaking as an american, the big plastic parts and helmets were originally intended to allow the players to impart more force on the other without injuring themselves in the process, something about leverage or something.
