I coach football, play various different ball games, and watch full NFL games whenever I get the chance.
For starters, in relation to the incessant whining about names, football was first, sorted. I'd even go as far as to say it's most likely older than the US itself, so there's no argument.
As for the whole irrelevant thing about injuries, it's an unwanted part of any game, so why should it have any bearing on the sport whatsoever? (Answer: it doesn't). Any sport has it's injuries (although, yes, Rugby does get off worse). However, this: http://img.thesun.co.uk/multimedia/archive/00443/cisse_666x450_443490a.jpg
I can't understand how so much energy is wasted by people complaining about different sports when they are benefit to everyone and a harm to no-one, are each enjoyed by millions around the world, and the ones are most vocal about "IT'S SACAR" "IT'S HANDBOWL STOPID" most likely haven't watched even a full season of the opposite sport, let alone bothered to play them.
So really, who cares? If people spent as much time actually playing said sports as they did arguing over them then the world would be in a much better place than it is now. So, I implore you, stop bickering over which is better, and instead get out and play them.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go help out at an Under 10's tournament for a real sport [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaelic_football].

I think us American football lovers have an industry that dwarfs many sporting events nation wide.
The one thing sport shouldn't be is an industry, so there's your problem right off the bat.
