I agree with you on this, and for being some who has Aspergers, I will say it is sometimes hard to know when you should or should not say something. People who have it don't always understand social cues and have a hard time understanding subtlety. I have gotten in trouble on several occasions when I had said something that I may have found hilarious, but everyone else found in very inappropriate.Dnaloiram said:Akichi Daikashima said:Now that's what I call justice!Four months of time for a man with Aspergers? Refer to my post prior to this and there is an explanation; however, I suppose i can just say it again here. The WBC is protected because they aren't protesting any particular solider, rather they are protesting gays in the military. They just 'happen' to be doing it right next to a solider's funeral. In any case I don't like the WBC and I despise what they are doing, but they are still protected in their legal rights to do it.drmigit2 said:Firstly, if that is the case, then the U.K is fucking retarded. Next, if that is not covered under the first amendment, then why the hell is the WBC running around saying god kills your son because there are gay people in America? My point was that he should have been fined, probably around the 500-1000 dollar(or in this case euro) range. There are way worse people deserving jail time, think next time before you open your mouth again.Wanzer said:Firstly he was in the U.K., secondly that isn't protected under first amendment rights, thirdly go study law before you open your mouth again.drmigit2 said:This is insane, he trolled and he gets 4 months? First amendment has died today, sorry to say everyone. He should have been fined 600 or so dollars for damages, I guarantee he would have stopped after paying 600 for it.
Alright, I'll use someone else's words instead:dogstile said:You're damn right, because you've missed the entire point of my post again. You mind censoring it? There are children here.The_root_of_all_evil said:Jail?
Are we gonna start jailing people who call each other "fatty" or "four-eyes" next?
How about moderating comments better?
I'm sorry you felt I cut the quality bits out of your incredibly insightful and worthy post.bloodmage2 said:offended == harassment, riiiight...
are you going to mount a decent argument, or do you just want to waste my time? also, i like how you singled out the only line in my post that wasn't expressing the message that people need to grow up and stop whining about rude remarks. i'm calling it now, if anyone responds to this they too will cut out most of my post(s).
Don't try deny that they are way worse than some stupid internet troll. This is a mockery of justice. I get that he is an asshole, and he probably deserves punishment, but jail time is not only insane and way too severe, it also is a waste of the nation's resources (they have to feed, clothe, and bed him for 4 months).Wanzer said:Refer to my post prior to this and there is an explanation; however, I suppose i can just say it again here. The case of ignorant people on Facebook making harsh and cruel statements again comes under my 'in bad taste but not really worth taking serious action over' sentiment that I outlined earlier (it's unfortunate but there isn't much you can do about that).The_root_of_all_evil said:Take the big picture of the Facebookers condemning the Tsunami or the Japanese beating America at football. I'm not going to link to it, but I'm sure people have seen it by now.
There are a LOT of people on the Internet who are just plain vicious.
Are you going to jail them all?
Jessi Slaughter. [http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/jessi-slaughter#.Tm-9XexLqSo] Her father "You dun goofed", died of a massive heart attack just over a month ago.
Any of 4chan going to jail for that? Or Boxxy? Or Mitchell Henderson?
Firstly, again, stop going on about freedom of speech. If you read ANY of my other posts after my first you should realise that in the UK, we don't have it, as your quote puts it.The3rdEye said:Alright, I'll use someone else's words instead:dogstile said:You're damn right, because you've missed the entire point of my post again. To paraphrase Draconalis' statement, "your freedom of speech is null and void the moment it harms or invites harm upon someone."
And quoting from Wanzer's Wiki link to the UK's hate speech laws:
"Hate speech laws in the United Kingdom are found in several statutes. Expressions of hatred toward someone on account of that person's colour, race, nationality (including citizenship), ethnic or national origin, religion, or sexual orientation is forbidden. Any communication which is threatening, abusive or insulting, and is intended to harass, alarm, or distress someone is forbidden. The penalties for hate speech include fines, imprisonment, or both."
Hmm... when looked under the light of stalking, my resolve waivers a little. 4 months for Cyber stalking sounds more solid than 4 months for trolling.Wanzer said:I'd like to point out that I mentioned he was arrested on harassment chargers that were more akin to stalking than anything else. Making a comment in the heat of rage that might be cruel and insensitive is one thing, but I doubt highly anyone is going to mock the dead in their moment of rage. Still, it is plausible and I give you some respect for the point; however, sad to say that this isn't a slippery slope with this guy. As I mentioned, he was basically being a stalker and going up to these peoples windows and constantly reminding them of the fact therefore becoming both harassing and stalking. Under the cyber protection laws, he does deserve jail time as Cyber Stalking and cyber harassment are still both serious crimes. As someone who has gone through it and still is, it isn't fun, it isn't funny and it seriously begins to screw up your life after a point. Most of the time police can't do anything simply because people can switch their IP addresses like that now and in most cases, there is a lack of 'proof' that comes from it. So I'm glad this guy got jail time and wish he would have gotten more because he invaded another families life and tried to hurt these people through the internet.

You have Rights up till and only when they don't infringe on the Rights of others.
excuse me? come again? where does any nation give its citizens the right not to be offended? pop music offends me for being corporate whores masking an acting career as music, sports offend me for being a massive waste of money that accomplishes nothing but the spectacle of teams of sweaty men groping each other. religion offends me for being nothing but a pyramid scheme that aims to keep scientific development and social progress at bay with a mask of goodwill and faith. are you to say that every theist, sports fan and player, pop star and listener is to be arrested? i don't say this often, but you're an idiot, learn what you are talking about before you try to argue it.
