Welcome to Costco, I love you.

I'm always happy to see a thread like this. It means I can introduce newcomers to the TRUE rules of the Escapist.

1. Press the red button the first chance you get. It gives you a special present. Some people here are just selfish and don't want anyone else to join in the happiness.

2. Some people here cannot detect sarcasm so be careful you don't get a warning for being humorous.

3. Be sure to wear sunblock and eat your vegetables.

Enjoy your stay!
For shame, at least have the curtesy to put the red button in your post! I don't know how to, or else I'd do it.
Heh. I would but... I don't know how to either >.>

Welcome to the Escapist! The Red Button is really awesome, you just have to push it! In fact, I just pushed it myself again because it's just that good ;)

Wait, when... how...?! And Copper Zen too?

Congrats to both of you :)

Hello, and welcome to our humble forum! Just a few things to know: all buttons, both red and swirly, are meant to be pushed, and if you say the word "sexist" three times you summon one.

Hi there! I'm neonsword13-ops and I like Persona 4 way too much.

Welcome to our little corner of the interwebz. We have plenty of neat things on The Escapist to keep you coming back every day for the rest of your life! Except for Sunday. We don't have any new content on Sundays. :(

Anyway, where should I begin...

1. Our mods are awesome. They keep my internet home here on The Escapist clean and free of nasty people. This is probably the most well moderated place I've been on the internet and I like that. Also, be sure you don't get on a mod's bad side. They can be quite merciless. >->

2. Avoid most if not all of the rape/feminism/Anita Sarkeesian threads. They always end in chaos. Always.

3. Find a user-group that strikes your fancy. Like Anime? Join the Anime user-group. Like My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic? Join that group. They're all great fun and you get to meet lots of great people.

4. Be sure to learn the posting commands (for things like bolding text, embedding youtube videos, posting images, etc). They might be a bit tricky to get a hang of first, but they can make your post look really snazzy.

5. All and all, just have some fun. We're all just gaming guys that enjoy talking to each other. This site has plenty to do and I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay. ;D

EDIT: Every Escapist has their very own health meter on their profile page. This tells you how many strikes you get until you get banned. These strikes can be earned from disorderly conduct and the like. But the most common infraction I see against people on the site are Low-Content posts. These have been the death of many Escapists.

I'll post an example. Say you just wanted to post a .gif on a thread instead of actually writing something to contribute to the topic at hand -

You'll get a warning for that. One word replies are also a no-no. Just be careful when you post. That's all.

Hi everyone,

There are too many responses now for me to respond to each of you individually. Please keep in mind that I have taken your suggestions under advisement and will consider joining forum groups shortly.

Thank you.

Hey! When did you become a Mod?
Nasrin asked if I'd be interested in becoming a site Mod last Thursday and Topaz, EscapeGoat and I received our powers and personal Banhammers Friday morning.

There are accusations in the PubClub that I've gone mad with power. I have no idea why, of course.

Since you're a PubClubber you can step through the Door to the Basement in the PubClub Forum so here it is:

Really Copper...you have NO idea why people think you've gone mad with power?

You don't remember the thread you made "Look at me! I'm a Mod now" and then you proceeded to not only ban anyone who questioned it, you actually found a way to send a signal through the internet to cause their computer to explode?

Afterwards, you created a thread called "I've gone mad with power" and proceeded to ban everyone in the PubClub. You then somehow found a way to ban Susan, Nasrin, and so on. Only the fearsome power of Kross stopped you from destroying the entire site.

Eleuthera is STILL cleaning up all the blood...

Lies! Baseless slander!!!

*thinks furiously*

That was all Kross' doing! It was HIS FAULT!!!

[small]And we're getting slightly off topic here. I have to be careful about appearances now, Tippy. But please, please don't cut off my supply of Belgian Chocolate coffee creamer, though! D:[/small]

On Topic: The backstabbing banter here is the kind of fun you get to look forward to being a part of. I think you'll find that even though the Staff has a weekly quota of sacrificial posters to fill an obligation to enforce the rules they also have a lively sense of humor![footnote]That should help, Tippy. Whew! That was a close one![/footnote]

Wait, am I seeing things? Since when have you been a mod?
I've been gone for too long.

OT:
Hi, my name's Triggr, I'm a frequent poster (at least when I'm not taking two English classes).
Welcome, the community is great here. I'd suggest staying away from the basement (and the R&P forums).
There are some secret rules here, most of which become pretty obvious after enough people yell at you
awhile. The only major one is that you should also mark sarcasm, most people just put "/sarcasm", remember its the Internet and not everyone will catch on. Due that and you'll last a long time.

EDIT:
On the subject of hidden rules. Most people don't care too much about resurrecting necro threads. There's some forgiveness for reposting a thread that's happened recently. HOWEVER, do not post "Suggest me Anime" threads, there's tons if you search for them--I'm on a crusade to limit those threads.

My rage explodes with the fury of a thousand suns every time I see a necro'd thread from over a year ago.

Nobody is going to post in it! The discussion is done! Make a new thread about the topic! The only time necro'd threads actually get any new discussion siphoned into their bloated, diseased, rotting corpses is when they died at one page to begin with.

Give it a few months and you won't care anymore. It's still part of the overall discussion, after all! :D

OT: Welcome, welcome, praise Daystar and avoid sexism threads, etc. etc.

You might find a high number of sarcastic and/or passive aggressive people around here, but just know that there's an equal number of us who like to have fun too.

[sub]We just often hide from all the super srs threads that clog up Gaming Discussion and Off-Topic.[/sub]
