a gun that fires squids that bury their tentacles into the ground, at which point the squid becomes a laser turret with a rotating head

A sniper rile that shoots heat seeking daggers that once inside the person, inject liquid nitrogen, freezing them. This would cause immense pain and by freezing them the second ammo, type, a sledgehammer, makes a lot more sense as it woud shatter the target into million of tiny pieces.

Ineffective but pretty damn cool

Here you go, enjoy.

Woah, that is cool.

I'd go for some gun that can make it's own ammo and is fairly cheap and easy to mass produce otherwise. Everything else is secondary, it doesn't have to be the greatest thing in the world if it can do that and you can make a bunch of 'em.
Imagine outfitting 1000 guys with it and not having to worry about supply issues anywhere near as much.

A gun that fire explosive, nuclear rounds. Not original but very effective.
Fatman, anyone?

OT: Me and a friend of mine thought up a way of making 'darkness grenades' which eliminate all light in its blast radius. Apparently it's possible too, you send out phase-shifted sine waves that collide with light particles or something (SCIENCE!). So a grenade launcher that shoots Anti-light grenades would be pretty cool.

Okay I take that back! Referencing the forces of Chaos, a gun that emits sounds which expose the weakness of the enemy whether it be Justin Bieber's singing or the sound of chalk being scratched across a black-board.

A Heisenberg Gun.

It shoots concentrated Heisenberg Particles, effectively shooting any object in existence. It's as probable to shoot a globe at your enemy as it is to shoot a fish tank.
It's like the improbability drive, but weaponized! I'd personally like to see it shoot a sperm whale...

Mine fires small, 2mm darts of an extremely dense substance. It does so using a fraction of a gram of antimatter as propulsion, launching the dart forward at significant fractions of the speed of light. Its effective range is limited by the distance until the darts burn up in atmosphere, not the distance until they hit something, because most anything they hit will be penetrated easily and it'll just keep going. It's the ultimate sniper, and since the ammunition is so small a single person can carry thousands of rounds. This means it can have an extremely high fire rate, if needed.

Also, I'm rather partial to sonic weaponry that doesn't just disorient the enemy, it breaks them down at a molecular level, essentially turning them in the jelly from the inside out. Always fun to do.

I've always had an idea for a gun. I call it the DASAR (Double Action Security Assault Rifle).

Basically, I honestly don't know how it would work, but the gun can fire two types of rounds. It will have standard 5.56mm rounds for lethal force, but will also fire tranquilliser darts from another magazine/feeding mechanism elsewhere on the gun.

It will only fire when it and it's user are electronically authorised to do so by a central command, even then, central command can authorise tranquillisers only. Or, if the need arises, switch to lethal rounds.

In this case, it can be used by both domestic security forces and by the military.
Only thought is that what if the central command falls? Or what if it can't receive/send a signal? Does that mean the user is essentially S.O.L., or does it override itself and allow for use of force? What if the user is attacked with a lethal weapon and needs to defend himself instantly, but central command has only authorized tranqs, which don't work instantly? What if the whole thing is knocked out by an EMP?

Just a few thoughts from someone who spends way too much time thinking about weaponry. :p

A sniper rifle that uses lasers (like laser pionters but a million times more powerful), you cant miss (no wind to bother you and it hits target instantly), you can also just use it like a assault rifle laser like the collector beam in mass effect 2 (I like lasers)

Yes, valid points, but I was merely purporting the concept rather than the full nuts and bolts. In answer to those, I don't know really. Perhaps the user can have ultimate control on what can be used in a situation. Perhaps they could have an MGS4 style system where the gun only responds to the right nanobots in the bloodstream of the user. Should the user percieve danger at a mild level, the nanobots react accordingly, the gun's sensors detect this and switch to tranqs automatically. Should they sense the need for lethal force, they will be switched to. Likewise, if the user is killed and the weapon taken by an assailant, it is rendered inactive since it has lost contact with it's users nanobots.

There should always be a central command monitoring all users though.
