Football (The real one) has been sorely lacking in the rules department for a long time due to this thing they called FLOW.

Even since the Japan and Korea World Cup where video screens and instant replays clearly show to millions of people what is going on, referees refuse to use video replays as evidence.

It is to my understanding that American Football allows a certain number of times for the coach/manager to call for a video replay.

3 times a match each side seems fair, you can only use it when necessary and it still keeps the game going

This reminds me of Italy screwing Australia over during the last world cup. We here in Australia know what it's like to have the refs against us. And I thought the French were supposed to be the gentlemen of the sport.

French, gentlemen of football? Am I the only not not in the least bit suprised France would be filthy cheats. Their national league is a disgrace and the pitches would be better off replaced by the 10m platform or the 3m spring board. They are worse than Serie A. Somehow.

Give me the A-League, Bundesliga or EPL anyday.

I guess the Irish are lucky no one got headbutted.

Don't get me started on teams in the AFC for cheating though....filthy scum.

Aye was watching the game last nite, our boys went to the Stade de France which is basicly a cathedral to soccer in Paris. Alot of people didnt really expect them to make such a good account of themselves. A radio presenter in my local area summed it up best I think by saying 'It was so cruel, because after we scored we had hope. And it was taken from us dishonestly' (or something to that effect not too sure of the exact wording)

Wouldn't be the biggest fan of soccer in Ireland but I couldn't help but feel cheated :< and when I saw how the players took it several of them were in floods of tears. I had to go and make a cup of tea, couldn't watch it, it was heart breaking :/

What needs to be said though is I dont blame Henry for what he did either, his country are going to the world cup we arent. Most players in that position would probably have done the exact same thing, even if it is very bad form.

That Italian deserved the headbutt. I reckon most of the people watching were thinking "Get him again! Get him again!"

I think I demanded he put the boot in too. They all deserve a headbutt.

Yeah but not only did this happen, not five minutes later Henry actually caught the ball - and was then awarded a free kick. Just a little more evidence of what a prick he is.

I have never heard the words "French" and "gentleman" in a sentence supporting each other up till now. Appalling call, but they football players are notorious actors. Each side has a few 'moments' that they could get called out on.

It's a fucking disgrace, but it is not limited to soccer. In sports all around the world the best and most 'respected' players get away with blue murder. A good example of this is the NBA in America. Players like Lebron James never get pulled for fouls but the lesser players get called all the time.

I live in Australia and if you didn't know we lost our World Cup Quarter final against Italy because of a penalty that was awarded because he FUCKING DIVED.

A fucking disgrace.

Yeah, I'm finding out I've spent to much time hanging around France supporters. Don't worry, I won't use French and Gentlemen in the same sentence again.

admitedly, the Goalie should have attempted to stop the handballed pass or the header... play the wistle, however yeah bullshit on chips
Agree with you there, the defending was pants and Given still should have tried to save it. Still though, it was a load of cock!! I would not go as far to say the match was fixed, but FIFA wanted Frace to wine that game. They would much rather have France then us through.

Video has been removed, so I can't say of seeing the video.

But time after time there have been incidents where a simple replay will do the job and everybody is happy.

'Course, then you get something similar to American Football, and well.. nothing wrong with the sport, but I'd feel it'd become more.. ick.

Personal opinion, of course. Refs are human, they make mistakes; why two (three?) would make the same one is beyond me, but there you go. From what I know of rulings, the man in the middle doing all the running is the man in charge, and what he says stays. I think.

Wow the first video doesn't work anymore but god that second makes me mad. Though admitatly it's more of just the blatent cheating then France winning because I really don't watch European football [or soccer as I call it] I watch my hockey and that way I see skill and I can see Sheldon Souray bash a guy's head in.

Absolutley shocking. They really need to get video replays into football and quick. Lots of really dodgy calls that have costed matches could have been avoided.
This is why rugby is a better sport, they have video replays to check. But you're right, it is a total disgrace, and I watched the game and was furious when it happened.

It was a fairly dirty game on France's behalf anyway, there was blatant fouling all over the place whenever Ireland had the ball in France's half, and for some reason, very little bookings, but Ireland had one slightly dirty tackle and the ref whipped out that yellow card so fast I'm surprised it didn't get whiplash.

Really, the whole thing stinks of bias. France played a terrible game, and so was rewarded through blatant cheating.

This shows the goal at around 1.20, watch the second and third replays.

It seems a lot of em are being taken down so not sure how long this one will last.

I don't actually care much because I'm neither Irish nor particularly interested in football... but wow, they got screwwwwwwwwed.

That said, I thought referees already had the facility to view video replays? Or, they did at some point? I could be wrong (haven't paid attention to football for about ten years now) but I vaguely remember them introducing something like that in the Premiership.

That's complete bullshit. I love Henry's response too. "I did handball it, but I didn't mean to" That doesn't fucking matter!
