Irrational Fears

It wasn't until a few days ago that I realized I had a few irrational fears and most of them include things in water. One of my irrational fears is that I am scared of buoys. Not the buoy itself but the chain/slab of cement attached to the buoy. I am afraid that if I get close to it that the chain will somehow wrap around my leg and that I won't be able to get it off.

I also have a fear of shipwrecks. I think it has the same thing to do with the buoy thing. That my foot will get caught on something and that I will get dragged down. I seen a picture of the USS Arizona where the top half can still be seen even though it sank and the picture frightens me because of all the stuff someone could get their foot stuck on.

I am pretty sure I developed these fears when I was younger when I was about seven or eight years old. I was at the beach and the water was pretty dirty and I tripped over some type of metal thing and it really freaked me out.

Does anyone else have any irrational fears? How did you develop the fear?

I wouldn't call them irrational fears, after all being afraid of getting your foot caught in them is perfectly rational reason to be afraid of them. Just like how people are afraid of snakes because they might bite them.

I personally do not have any irrational fears but the internet has a vast supply of people with silly fears.

Oh well played.

I have an irrational fear of being around others in any social environment. Yeah social anxiety really sucks, but I'm getting treatment for it so fingers crossed I'll be cured soon.

My irrational fear is just the darkness, like if it's the evening and I'm in the house by myself and the lights are off. I get terrified that something will come at me. Or if I'm standing in a room and someone suddenly turns the lights off I freeze up and get scared.

I'm an arachnophobic, so take a few wild guesses what my irrational fear is??? I also have an irrational fear that I don't know all of my irrational fears, and that I might discover a new one at any minute...

Heh, me too...though that's not that irrational, really.

Oh god dammit fuck you that was awful.

OT: Usual stuff really. Spiders (though not so much recently), water (living in England, what's gonna get me?), realistic looking gore and shit kinda makes me shudder a bit but that's justifiable.

Sudden death...not just that I'll keel over like the artist in Monty Python and the Holy Grail (it's alright to talk about that now, right?) but things like waking up in the middle of the night and being aware for long enough to acknowledge that there is someone in there before he shoots me in the face...or being hit by a meteor.

Other than that I'm afraid of living long enough to see another massive world war break out. The thing with North Korea is kinda freaking me out even though in the back of my mind I know it probably wouldn't spark massive nuclear attacks and humanity ending fighting.

crowds and cameras. It's not strictly speaking a phobia, they just make me feel REALLY uncomfortable and I tend to avoid them as much as I can.

I would give blood but, just the thought of someone else not dying because of my blood... *shudders*

Nah just kidding, I'm afraid of needles. I'm actually behind on my shots.

Got social phobia, which I developed after some combined events when I was 16 years old(six years ago).
Had recently taken a sabbathical from school and broken up with the vast majority of my friends, so I spent most time inside. Once when I was out with some remaining friends I got assaulted by some drug addict because I apparently was a satanist and had to be converted. Luckily some Securitas guards were nearby and took him in custody. Really glad they did since they found a knife on him which I'm sure he was ready to use.

Didn't think much of it afterwards(I pressed charges though) and continued my days as a shut-in. When the trial begun everything was different. People were constantly staring and judging me and I was close to throwing up when I made my statement. After that I begun to be afraid even in my own room. I was convinced people could see right in and never left the house. My daily schedual for a year was pretty much just waking up, playing games, go to bed.
It's a lot better these days due to therapy and drugs, but it still hinders me greatly from having a normal life.

What's worse is that before this I was a complete attention whore with tons of self-confidence. It's a weird feeling because I still love being noticed in crowds... and at the same time it scares the shit out of me.
So yeah. A nacissist with social phobia.

Hey, me too!
Hate those eight-legged bastards!

OT: Spiders, and heights. Oh, and the dark. Though I've grown out of the latter, the other two continue to torment me.

Same here, but not as much seaweed as the other unknown horrors that dwell in the sea.

What else could be down there? It genuinely terrifies me.

Furries and Bronies.
Okay, not really, but I'm sure some people do.

seriously though, I'm arachnophobic, especially for the smaller kinds of spider, tarantula's are almost like mammels in my mind for some reason.
also, I'm scared of getting a heart attack, suddenly dying without being able to do ANYTHING to fight or prevent it is terrifying to me.

I also get the feeling I'm forgetting something important a lot, so I'm checking my possesions all the time.

FEAR ME! MWAHAHHAHA!!!

I do hate spiders, not 'fear' as such but I can't go to sleep if one is in the room. Fear and respect are different things.
