in AMERICA [all caps for the hearing impaired!], specificly Texas, we pay just around $3-5 per pack depending on brand.

still though, cheaper to buy them in mexico and just pay the import tax, same goes for the alcohol.

What the fuck? Seriously? FUUUUUUUUUUU....
Yo, I'm getting an Xbox 360 tomorrow because I heard L4D2 was the shit and I want to try out Alan Wake. Where's the cheapest place I can get a gold membership? I already have a ps3 and check this out (I'm fucking CRAZY!) the premium on that. I'll pay $100 bucks a year for some stupid crazy dumb shit becasue I like to fucking game, and I heard some of Xbox's multiplayer was worth it. Is it worth it? Don't lie to me. I'm not some fucking console or pc gamer, I am a GAMER motherfucking Gamer. I play Games. I will play motherfucking boggle or candyland. I would play magic the gathering or yugioh if I knew how to play that shit. So don't tell me something you'd sell to someone you want to convert to your side, jsut tell me the truth. Is it money well spent?

I don't like the price hike, but I'll still pay it. It is only $10 after all and live is worth it I guess.

I don't have Xbox live, but I'm fairly certain it's not the amount of the increase, it's the increase itself. It's the fact that there is no justification for it. $10 a year may not seem like much, but it's about standing up for your rights as a consumer. It's about not letting these corporations walk all over us. ...kinda like they already do.

True, but in the end, their main goal is to make money. Increasing the price is one way to do so. Also, prices always fluctuate over periods of time. Who knows? Maybe they'll drop the price sometime in the future.

Act now and pay an extra $10 a year to listen to 12 year olds scream obscenities at you!
Wait really...?! I can listen to little Timmy cuss me out of the room after telling me about all the things his incapable 12yr old form did to my mother and sister...?!

Where do I sign up?!

edit: Wait... I can just go to the ghetto for free and hear the same thing... you tried to trick me!!!
read it as PSN being the ghetto.

unknown if it was intentional, but +5 style.

OT: if you think that paying nearly the same price for a new game for an entire year of online services is unfair, then Odin help you if you ever find out a majoirty of MMO's and other services actually cost money.

$10 gives me 3 packs of cigarettes. Yeah, it's a pretty big deal.
Wow, here we pay about 15-25 dollar per package. Sheesh.
Yeah, seriously Andy. Where are you getting your smokes? I'm paying close to $20 for three packs.

$2.37 a pack for Pyramid (generics) at the indian smoke shop next to the casino about a mile and a half from my house. You are supposed to live in OK to get them in cartons, but since the street I live on in the dividing line between AR and OK, I get to buy them tax free.

I take issue with the price raise not out of general expense or principal alone, but value based on my extremely limited time due to a busy life. I can play video games only now and again, most often just a single player romp when I'm relaxing. I look at even $50 a year as a waste because I do not use that online play enough to justify the cost, especially when included is a whole "community" of junk I care nothing about (Facebook, Twitter, Avatars, Party Chat, Achievments, ESPN, chat, ect.). All I would like to do is every once in a while pop in Halo, for example, and play online. If I could play a "multiplayer" battle with bots, I'd even go for that! As I said, I'm quite busy so playing with friends is not really feasible for me like several years go, so friends-related features do not apply for me.

If I played 15-35 minutes online only several times a month for $60 per year on top of the game's original cost, it's a waste when a single player game for just the $60 and play that any time that I want, no extra Xbox Live fee, and no hyperactive, cursing pre-teens screaming.

In the case of someone such as myself, it does not even come down to X amount per month; it becomes a flat, upfront sixty dollars that could have gone towards something that I would get more use out of for several years like some small appliance, music, workout equipment, or even just groceries (sustenance for crying out loud). Even with my PS3, I have not even gotten to the PSN yet because I'm still enjoying all of the single player gameplay I have at my fingertips. So I think it's safe to say that my above example of several times a month for online play is, if anything, an exaggeration of what would likely arise. The only thing that the 360 offers to me for an interesting online game would maybe be Halo and my old copy of COD 4.

No, the increase isn't that big of a deal. What most are bitching about is that it's $10 a year more to Microsoft. If Steam started charging extra for the ability to use the service they wouldn't have a problem with it. It's double standards and hypocrisy that some companies are ok to want to make a profit and it's wrong for others just based on what the rules of the "indie cred" movement says.
Uncalled for comment here? That's kinda missing the point of the topic here...
Not really when there are comments saying that Steam is a better service in the topic. I used Steam as an example because the people that like it would goladly pay it just like the people that like XBL Gold will (mostly) happily pay the extra .83 cents a month. What I meant about double standards is that (since I mentioned Steam I'll use Valve as an example) a lot of people don't like Microsoft (some replacing the "s" with a $) making a profit, but have no problem with Valve trying to make a profit.

I wasn't meaning any disrespect to people who like Steam if that is what you are thinking, just using them as an example.
Well, I would think the difference is, of course, Steam is a comparable service to Xbox Live and is free. I assure you, if Valve decided to charge ten bucks more for the use of Steam, its use will drop dramatically in favor of other services such as D2D, Impulse, Gamersgate, etc.

steam is NOT comparable to XBL. Steam is a sales platform. The only thing it provides for free is a friends list and a consolidated, easy way to get game updates. The voice chat, multi-player servers etc, all that is provided and paid for by the users and the community.

WHAT IN BRITAIN IT IS ALMOST 6 TIMES THAT.
But only if you buy 1 month subscriptions direct from Microsoft. In which case you deserve to lose yer money.
Which I never do. The Price for 1 year is £39.99 which is $61.64.

It's not the money, it's the principle of the matter. Xbox Live doesn't have enough overhead costs to justify increasing how much money we're paying for it.
Bingo.... if anything LIVE should be going DOWN in price... or they should open up multiple price tiers so that those of us who don't give a shit about using Facebook or Twitter through XBox don't have to pay for it.

But now it's not almost the cost of a new game a year, it is the cost of a new game, per year.

Or six CDs. And as for the price hike, I'd rather have a new album than some shit I might never use.

Also, I'm almost to 4,000. Yay!
