Four spread out over an entire day? Totally fine.

Three before work? Good god, NO.

As for me? I just recently tried my first coffee thing, and it was mostly caramel, and I thought it was "ok". I'd never be able to actually drink coffee. Then again, I'm a Supertaster: http://www.cracked.com/article_19224_6-wuss-behaviors-that-were-once-badass-survival-instincts_p2.html

yes, i drink coffee
the frequency is subject to change; for not a single cup in weeks to lots of them a day, anything goes
no, i don't believe four or more cups turn into a nervous wreckage of your self ^^

most of my colleagues at work drink more than four cups/d , and they're fine, too

Yes indeed. It has become my favourite beverage.

I'm on cup 2 today, and will most likely have a 3rd tonight. I have had 6 cups in one day but I was having a marathon Bad Company 2 session that lasted 15 hours.

I don't drink coffee, but four cups a day doesn't seem extreme or crazy.

I met a friend for coffee last summer and had a mocha cappuccino (which was huge) and my hands were twitching by the time I was done. From that perspective drinking for cups seems crazy, except I obviously don't have much of a tolerance and regular coffee drinks do.

2-3 double shots per day. feels bad on an empty stomach though. Its what i need to get me through the work day. Lack of sleep and too much playtime at night.
Red bulls and all that do the trick also.

I'd usually have two cups of tea, one coffee each day when I was at Uni. But to be fair, 3 hours of sleep each day is not enough to stay awake otherwise...

I don't drink much coffee otherwise, but I'm currently having 4-5 cups of tea each day. Spaced out of course.

I don't drink coffee. I just have a cup of black tea, but only if I feel a bit too groggy that morning. Really, I don't ingest much caffeine.

So, I'd say, yes. It is.

Health wise? Even despite that i have blood pressure below average, even my doc told me to drink coffee and a glass of brandy before sleep. Good to be messed up.
thats possibly the greatest thing a doctor can prescribe.
OT: too much in the morning. not too much over the course of the day. i'd spread it out a little more.

I drink around 8 cups a day O-o; I didn't know that it was suprising.

Thing is, is coffee has little effect on me and I can drink at that rate then stop for 3 weeks without any desire for any. O-o

Yes I drink coffee, but I drink a cup once a day if I have any in my cupboards. If you ask me, while I think 4 cups of coffee a day is a bit excessive, it is by no means the most I know someone to drink. I know someone who drinks probably about 8 cups a day, and her daughter, who is a friend of mine, has recently started drinking coffee and she is drinking like 6 cups a day, and I get phone calls at 3 in the morning because she can't get to sleep, which is really bloody annoying.

I have a thermos and a travel mug so I can bring the whole pot of coffee to work with me and drink a cup before I leave. I'm not exactly a morning person. That's a 12-cup measurement, but how many coffee mug fills that works out to, I've never counted. I know it's more than your 4, however. And I seem to be fine, but everyone's physiology is different. I use cream to cut the acidity, which may be how I'm still fine!

No, that's not that bad. Hell, my first weekend back at college last year, i drank EDIT: 48(it was 2 cases of 24) mountain dew cans in 36 hours.

I don't drink coffee, don't like the taste, but 4 cups a day isn't going to hurt you. I know a dozen people at least who drink a lot more caffeine per day than that.

Yup.

You can actually make yourself allergic to caffeine if you become to dependent on it.

I'd cut back pretty hard if I were you.
Where did you hear that?

While the phrase "too much" leaves a lot of room for interpretation, if we are talking purely about the caffeine intake I'd wager that the coffee alone is not "too much" if we use the average American intake as a metric. While I will, at most, drink two cups of coffee in a day (and this limit is based on nothing more than the fact that I can't stand the terrible taste it leaves in my mouth for hours if I can't brush my teeth), I might drink a total of 4 or 5 cans of caffeinated beverage in a day (though not always from a can).

While I rarely drink things that are caffeinated to wake up or stay awake, it happens to be an ingredient in several of my favorite beverages. Personally, I've never found caffeine to be terribly effective at the "waking me up" thing and if I honestly needed chemical assistance to stay awake, no quantity of caffeine was going to be effective. I have, in the last few years at least, noticed that I can no longer drink caffeinated beverages before bed as it finally appears to keep me from falling to sleep easily but it by no means prevents it. Even in large (>200mg) doses.
Pretty much this, except the last part. I drink 7 cans of mountain dew in a day when I'm trying to cut down. I can easily down 15 or more in a day. Has nothing to do with staying up, caffeine doesn't keep me up anyway, it's just my drink of choice. I also like monster, and I will routinely buy a monster at 10PM and go to sleep at 11. Caffeine hasn't really had Much of an effect on me since i was like 5 years old, and that was the time I stole my brother's 16 oz can of surge out of the fridge and slammed it before I could get caught.

I think 4 cups of coffee is totally acceptable. That is really only 200-400 mgs of caffeine so that compares to like one of the "high-end" workout supplement doses, about 2 energy drinks (without a pound of sugar).

I currently drink a 10-cup pot before work, I drink water during work, but then when I get off I brew a half pot that I drink intermixed with water after work throughout the evening, more if friends come over because I'll keep brewing it to be hospitable.

While I don't do this every day I do do it more days than not. Just recently had a thorough physical, my blood nutrient levels are solid, blood pressure is better than average, cholesterol levels, and pretty much everything is solid, so using the poor logic of self experience (not sarcasm, its a bad argument, but it is one I guess) I think you are good to go with 4 cups.

I thought you were going to ask about two pairs of titties.
A smell of fresh coffee is enough to cause me a headache, so no, I don't drink it. Probably allergic.

Dude, I think I've had like 5 cups of coffee today already. Big ones. And I'm just about to go make me another one.

Four cups is way too much when you consider all you need is one cup and two girls.
