Is anyone else a little nervous about Skyrim?

I've been a big fan of Elder Scrolls since 2006, Oblivion (console) is my favorite game of all time. Now, maybe I just of Morrowind syndrome but does it seem to anyone else like Skyrim might just be too far removed from the Elder Scrolls to work in series? The Empire falling means that nothing will be the same, the whole in game world will be so alien and unfamiliar... I don't know. I'm just nervous. Other thoughts, folks?

You should not have said that first bit. The Morrowind guys are getting worse around these parts with the announcement, you shouldn't claim you're a fan if it's only for Oblivion (that's what they'll tell you at least)!

Anyway, no, it's doing what the series has always done. You should research the rest of the series before saying it's too different.

I played Morrowind too, I found it unintuitive, gameplay wise. The story and world were better and more immersive. Ultimately, I prefer Oblivion because I can actually PLAY it.

Well considering Bethesda has not really deviated from its core gameplay style at the very least since morrowind, I think its safe to say that even if a few odds and ins change here and there, its still going to be very familiar to you right off the bat.

I honestly dont see how a tale of an impending Dragonic apocalypse really wouldnt be right at home in the TES narrative.

Not really. Since I consider Oblivion to be an unmitigated disaster on every front, there's nowhere for the game to go but up! :)

I hope they don't think over the game too heavily because when games do that it seems to overcomplicate and ruin the series.
E.g making the game too realistic or taking graphics over glitches, just saying that a lot of series have done this but with marrowind and oblivion they seem to be good at the large change in game style.

I'm very nervous about Skyrim, and I'm one of those Morrowind guys. I see the step that was taken between Morrowind to Oblivion, and now I see the same step between Oblivion and Skyrim. Time will tell, but I remember around this time in the release schedule that Oblivion was removing some content like throwing weapons and I just shrugged it off. I'm not ignoring red flags like that this time when I hear there are already less skills for your character now.

I also wouldnt worry too much about the game becoming too complex or degree of difficulty. Bethesda likes to make money and one of the best ways to do so is ensure the game is highly accessible since they have seen how profitable it has been to make games in such a fashion since Oblivion.

Arena was so awesome in 1994 that I will now have to play every sequel they ever make - Although, TBH morrowind was quite plain and I didnt really enjoy Oblivion all that much (just sayin) anyways - Skyrim FTW!

Not at all.

I liked Oblivion, but I don't feel too strongly about the series or Bethesda in general.

If it's good, it's good. If not, too bad and I move on to another game.

I don't get why people cringe and cry saying "OMG! NOT GONNA BE AS GOOD AS MORROWIND!". Morrowind sucks and you know it. It was a cluster-fuck of awfulness from the controls, the pointlessly large amount of armour slots (Left AND right gloves? WHAT THE HELL?!) all the way to the setting being just plain awful and a lack of any real intro.

Oblivion fixed Morrowind. Skyrim looks like another improvement.

They are changing the game engine because the current one is too limited. If change didn't occur things would get stagnant. I say bring on the new with Skyrim

Oblivion in no way fixed Morrowind. It limited your options in far too many ways. The awesomeness of Morrowind was in its diverse magics and weapon options. The life of games comes from options and though many can be completely unnecessary (mercantile) the option to take them and make a character based around them brings fun. Also levitation and acrobatic magic was fun. They killed that with bullshit magics. The recent announcement of no mysticism is sad too. No more utility magic means a linear game.

Also left and right gauntlet options were amazing. Why should I need matching pauldrons when I have a leading arm that needs more armor and a trailing arm that needs more maneuverability? The options also gave you more options with magic enchantments. its just so much better with more power.

I am still optimistic about it, I don't expect it to be a screw up of any sorts and even in a worst case scenario I am sure Bethseda will deliver something with entertainment and replay value.

So far, things seem to be going smoothly. To me at least.

Everything I've seen and heard seems great so far. Only thing I'm speculating is the setting. So far it looks like a bunch of snowy mountains, which I'm a bit meh on, but hopefully there's a bit more deviation.

Dragon attacks.
DRAGON ATTACKS EVERYWHERE!
Honestly, I can't damn well wait!
Running around, using shouty powers on dragons sounds absurd fun, and stabbing some wolf thing whilst hurling fireballs at its buddy sounds brilliant!

If the empire is falling apart it means only that the game world is evolving, you know, just like in real life. Personally I love this idea of evolving lore. Perhaps we will also see some kind of improvement in the technology department. Personally I would like to see Tamriel reach Industrial age some day.

Mostly true. Morrowind was less generic and was a bit deeper than Oblivion, but the gameplay was an absolute disaster.
