Is anyone else getting sick of these new advertisements on The Escapist?

Before we get started, yes, I understand that the Escapist NEEDS to have advertisements on the site.

However, this newest one is seriously getting annoying. I'm referring to the one for The Sub. This freaking little thing always covers up text boxes, so I either can't read what someone has typed, or I can't read what I'M typing, and have to hope that I didn't make any spelling mistakes. You can't even move the damn things to see what they're covering.

And if you TOUCH them, they expand, and start playing the advertisement whether you clicked it or not.

Seriously, fuck this new advertisement.

Seriously, they always show up in these threads.

Anyway, I get sick of all advertisements. Doesn't matter how big, small, subtle, or obnoxious they are. On television, on Youtube videos, on websites, on Xbox, they all annoy me. But oh well.

Ones that refuse to close are the worst, though.

That fact that it's there isn't a problem. But, yeah, if it's cock blocking text boxes, that's probably a tech team problem they can look into.

Alternatively, I could peddle my ass to afford pub club memberships for every member of the escapist. Whatever you decided, decided it quickly.

I had real problems with that one when I was trying to sign in; I had to change my password but the ad kept getting in the way. Commercials are fine and all, but if they get in the way of my being able to SIGN IN, that's a problem.

Yeah, I don't mind the advertisements most of the time. But "The Sub" doesn't move. It is always on top of whatever else is around, it is just absolutely horribly coded. Ads are fine. I've got a bunch of Sims 3 ads right now, and think they're pretty cool. That Sim shark looks so cute. Ads that actually restrict use of the site get to me, though.

I got put on probation for making a post just like this one.

If you go to the "contact" tab at the bottom of the page you can report the technical issue of the adds not scrolling down the page as the text box expands.

Maybe if enough people do it they'll fix it faster.

Until it's fixed I just recommend refreshing the page until you get Sims or Monster Hunter
And if that fails type the comment in an alternate window and copy/paste it into the proper text box, bypassing trying to type under the add all together.


A different problem that's been popping up for me is knowing for sure that I typed the Capcha right and it still makes me type it again

--but because the $20 I spent to join the Pub Club blocks ALL advertisements.

Yeah i know what you mean and its really pissing me off. Its especially annoying when I have my headphones cranked up to max, accidentally touch when, and next thing I know BOOOM!!!! my ears are ringing as if a grenade just went off right next to me. And as you mentioned the fact that they cover up part of the text box is very annoying. I wish they would at least give us the option to close them.

This is only partly related: I somehow just get ads for things from my country but that arent all ads I should get. Sometimes were an ad should be there is no ad. It is strange

That's the strategy they're going for. The people who make the ads want them to be as annoying and obtrusive as they can possibly be. They do not care about site functionality, and they do not care what you are trying to do. I don't know how making you hate their brand fits into the grand plan, but there it is.

Things like that are irritating. What I do when I want to post on a page with an ad like that, is take the escapist off the adblocker exception list, refresh the page, post and then put the escapist back on the list.

That way I get to post with only minor annoyance and the escapist gets its advertising $.

I normally don't complain about these things, but ads consistently blocking half my reply box so I can't see what I'm typing is really crossing a line. Ads can be annoying, but they shouldn't actively prevent me from using the thing they're attached to.

There seem to be a good number of the threads lately, and the ad in question is always "The Sub". The ads on this site fluctuate. At the best of times I hardly notice that they're there. At the worst it's like trying to read a cell phone taped to a billboard. Eventually there will be a point at which I will be arsed and finally give 'em there $20.

Yeah, as others in this thread have said, you should probably edit and trash this post. Just change this to a spiderman thread or something.

Ironically, that'll actually save you from getting a warning.

EDIT for OT: All ads are a pain, though I haven't seen these sub ads everyone is going on about.
