Yes, it did come as a surprise to me, but it's one of the few franchises I have this weakness for, normally I would have alarm bells going off about a game that went through what this did, but the fan in me was like "I don't care, I just want more."MarsAtlas said:Yes, but I didn't realize just how many other studios had a hand in creating it, even if its just what Randy Pitchford said about it, saying Gearbox made roughyl three-quarters of the game. Of course, this particular interview only came out a few days before the release of the title. Gearbox definitely had too much on their plate, I mean, just look at what they've done since 2006, when they took on Colonial Marines. They bought the Duke Nukem IP, pushed out DNF rather cheaply for a buck, and maybe to gauge market interest, they made both Borderlands games, Borderlands DLC, I believe two or three Brothers in Arms games, and most likely started development on Brothers in Arms Furious Four (now just Furious Four), all while mostly ignoring this. Quite frankly, I'm surprised SEGA hasn't sued them yet, even just five days after the release of Colonial Marines. I mean, they were about to anyways.
I guess I could say I'm mostly surprised because I assumed that they weren't so stupid as to spread themselves so thin. Colonial Marines is for Gearbox as to what that one chore you hate, whichever it is, that you have to do, and always put doing it off for as long as possible. Quite frankly they just shouldn't have made Borderlands 2, or at least, not with the amount of manpower they were using. They should have fufilled their obligations and made Colonial Marines their main project. From the beginning of 2011, but its clear that they didn't, regardless of whether you believe any of these anonymous posters on the internet.
Plotwise, its utterly pointless, non-sensical, and an insult to your intelligence. I don't know who was in charge of it, but it seems...
that the entire point of the game was to retcon Hicks' admittedly needless death from Alien 3. I guess 20th Century Fox wanted to bring Hicks back so they could make another movie or something, rather than start with a fresh character, which in my opinion is a mistake for many reasons unrelated to how the plot plays out itself. They didn't even do it so that it could makes sense. I literally could've done it better. The plot of the game was written out by somebody thirty minutes they needed to present it - it doesn't even have the quality of a last minute all-nighter essay. The game raises dozens, if not hundreds of questions, from the revelation of him being there - and then it gives you a middle finger when Hicks says something along the lines of "Thats a story for another time". Seriously, 20th Century Fox, hire me, please! I don't even need to be paid. I'll do it for free, it'll be cheaper than that methhead you must've hired to write it. Did you hire the guy who wrote Mass Effect 3?
So yeah, the plot was awful, but to be honest, I probably should've been expecting it, especially after there was so much tampering with the Alien 3 script (which I still think turned out good, but point stands).
To do with your spoiler tag
But he does explain why he wasn't in hyper sleep etc, the bit he says that about is who the body that they thought was his belonged to. I know it's kinda lazy writing, but the story made sense, it was just predictable, simple and a bit stupid.
That said, I'm still enjoying the multiplayer
