For the most part, I look at my activity online in the same way as I do my IRL activities. It's generally not acceptable to be a jerk when you are dealing with people you don't know, but if you are 'among friends', as it were, then you can be a bit of a jerk but only in for the humour factor (since you are dealing with people who can tell when you are not being serious).

So, he was yelling............and you were yelling back?
And you didn't have the common sense to just kick him?
Bit of an easy target, aren't you?
No, we were too busy yelling and stupid to kick him
Yes, I know - they were rhetorical questions.
What I meant was that the fact you were so easily annoyed by it just made it more fun for him.
While I may be easily annoyed, he was doing this the entire match, it was only halfway through that I began to yell.

Actually I've been on the giving and receiving end of jerks online and I gotta tell you at first I'm screaming "aw you fucking dick" but then when I did it to someone who was being unintentionally annoying I realized the humor in it. Its fun, especially if they were begging for it.

Is being a jerk online fun?
It must be. Or at least it must be satisfying in some way. Also, no its not confined to online. People are jerks everywhere, in life and online. Even on this here forum, people will instigate, antagonize, intentionally misquote or misunderstand, just to mess with you or prove themselves better.

Its pretty blatant and its everywhere. But hey people aren't perfect, we can't be nice to one another 24/7, life would probably be too boring that way as everything would be quite predictable. I dunno I could go on for ever rambling but basically... yes being a jerk is pretty widespread and I doubt its going anywhere.

remember most gamers are nerds and/or social rejects (myself included) who probably werent or arent very popular in school and can barely lift anything bigger that a computer
they seize this chance to say anything they want free of any true retaliation because in real life they probably get the shit kicked out of them for speaking their minds

Spent 3 hours playing private games with buddies tonight.

It was pure gaming bliss. Laughter and cheers, and knife only matches on Rust.

Add more buddies and go private, it's the way to go.

I don't have that big of a problem. On the PC at least since I play with friends mostly, I also know a few servers that are havens.

Not so much with xbl/psn though.

If I knew more people here who played on those it would be nice, but both the 360/playstation clans that used to be here seemed to have petered off and died.

Only when it's easily recordable and you feel they deserve it. Like when on Vent. All your rage are belong to us.

Otherwise, stick to semi-casual gaming for fun.

Hence, the troll got what he wanted. They are patient buggers sometimes.

But if you said you where busy yelling, and you only started yelling halfway through, why not kick him before that?

In general, I like to do the Lion Test.

What is the lion test?

well, it is simple, If I wouldn't say it to a lion for fear of being eaten, I don't say it at all. If I think the lion won't mind, I'll say it.

it's a good test, though it does have it's problems... testing with a real lion doesn't always end well.

It's only fun when antagonising little kids. We're all guilty of that pass time.

No. A lot of people do it because the first reaction to failing at something is denial /// shifting the blame to someone else or an outside influence for their shortcomings and losses.

Only sometimes. If someone is taking the game way too seriously to the point where it isn't fun anymore, I'll go all deliberately noob on them.

"HOW DO I SHOT BULLETS. OH THATS HOW. SORRY GUY STANDING IN FRONT OF ME."

But if nobody's being an ass, I'll take it as seriously as they are.

I just don't talk online, and then people get mad at me for not saying anything when they yell at me.
