Hot damn, that actually looks fucking rad!
I mean...uh, hype is bad, and, uh, calm down.
Seriously though, I wouldn't call it the best game ever, especially since we know little to nothing about it. The setting, combat, atmosphere, lore, and level design are guaranteed to satisfy. However, Dark Souls had many problems. It was weird, in that it was exceptional in areas where games usually aren't very good, and lagged behind in areas where other games were brilliant. I love the subtlety in Dark Souls, but I do think there's such a thing as TOO subtle, and From Software rides that line very narrowly. It's okay to expand on your narrative just a little bit From, honest. Silent Hill 2 probably struck the perfect balance between ambiguity and exposition. It was grounded, but we never really felt like we had a good grasp on the situation. Dark Souls doesn't even give you that much. There are also certain design issues I had. I hold, and will always hold, that it is totally unacceptable to not have a pause button. I shouldn't have to choose between dying and answering a phone call from my mom/friend/girlfriend. Hopefully Miyazaki doesn't get stuck too far up his own ass after the surprise cult success of Dark Souls 1.
That said, working for a smaller publisher, and then becoming that publishers cash cow have pretty much given him carte blanche to do whatever he wants, and take risks other publishers would never allow. I wouldn't want all games to be like Dark Souls, but From games are unique, and I'll be picking up a copy on day one. Hopefully it's everything it's cracked up to be.
It does make Microsoft's Tomb Raider exclusive look absolutely precious, though.
