YES. YES YES YES YES. Borderlands is absolutely brilliant and fun as hell for hours. Get the GOTY - the DLCs are well worth it!

Speaking as somebody who has played Borderlands many times both on my own and with my brother I say that although Borderlands on its own is still good, there's probably better ways to spend your money.

I've heard that the PC version suffers from "Shitty Console Port Syndrome" though.
There's only three things wrong with the PC version. Texture Pop in (nowhere near as bad as RAGE mind you), weird FOV, and fucking Gamespy.

As some other people have suggested, it's better with friends but not so great playing with random people online. The lack of any real system of sharing loot - bear in mind that acquiring loot is pretty much the main attraction here - means that you could encounter people who just selfishly grab all of the best guns, shields etc before you get a chance.
Having said that, playing through solo is most certainly a repetitive experience and you should expect a lot of MMO-style fetch-quest missions. Personally I enjoyed the game alone because of the wide range of weapons and because the core shooting mechanics feel so precise, but I can understand that some people might find it quite boring without co-op.

I'm in the process of soloing the whole game by myself. It get's challenging at times, especially boss fights or vehicle sections, but most of the time you feel like a badass who just mowed a group of 20 or so bandits by himself. But it is fun with friends.

Having done it twice solo before ever doing co-op, I'd say yes.

NO SHARING THE LOOT.

The games story is a bit lame in my opinion. I bought it to play split-screen co-op; my friend moved to uni and we never finished it. I sold it off when I put it in for solo and got bored very quickly.

SO to answer your question, no. Borderlands is not worth it for solo play.

I played it, and I found it thoroughly meh. The PC version suffers from a terrible UI as the result of a poor console port so if I were you, I'd use that money to buy Amnesia instead.

It's an amusing game, but far to easy in the long run. After a while it just isn't challeging anymore, even more so in multiplayer.

Some skills really get out of hand and the game can't keep up. That said, the game is more than capable of providing a few hours of entertainment.

I got Borderlands one day one and I played through the entire campaign with my brother. It was very fun. I then tried to play it by myself. Not fun. Not nearly as fun. At least 70% of the fun of borderlands comes from tackling the enemies and the bosses with a friend or a sibling. On its own, the game is really quite dull.

The Game by itself is pretty decent, but the DLC, especially the third package, is quite essential. The Mad-Moxxie's Dome content is lacking and you can probably ignore it.

that honestly depends, bone head literally was one shotting me and my friend when we teamed up, depending on your weapons/choices.

we literally died 28 times killing that bastard,i probably unloaded roughly 30-40 clips into that bastards head area.
Bone Head? Really now? I actually had to look up who you were talking about. I think I ended up tossing a bunch of grenades in and picking up all the loot because they killed him.
tried the same thing, they barely took out pieces of his shield, my friend ended up bringing in his glitched character to give us the best weapons we could have at that level, and we barely took him down that way, i had my gun sticking between the smallest of pixels shooting him, even then one of his random ass stray bullets would take me out every 5 seconds or so so my friend would have to revive me.

Oh HELL yes. Just be sure to get the $7.50 GOTY edition. The DLC really fleshed the game out nicely.

Nope, at least not to me. It's boring, empty, EXTREMELY repetitive (limited selection of enemy types), no plot to speak of, the few points of quirky humor are mostly near the start of the game and then just abruptly stop. Coop is the only thing that makes it bearable...

I loved playing Borderlands single player. That could be because I'm a loot hog, but still...awesome either way :p

It's fun even if you play it alone. Game keeps you at the starting area a bit too long though, but after it opens up it really opens up and starts to move faster. Some of the quest are somewhat grindy and mmoish, but nothing horrible. What makes the game are the guns the billions and billions of guns. And as a side note, get the dlc too higher level cup and some of the most interesting quests are in the dlc. Now about co-op, I had some connection problems but that may just be me the bigger problem was the asshole problem, but if you have friends or even just one you can rely on it's probably going to a blast to play.

I played it through single player, mostly.

But then I found some random guys online and I had a blast.

But then I found some other guys and my quest list got fucked up.

So then I stopped playing.

From what I've seen, Borderlands seems really fun if you play it four player with your friends. During this Halloween Steam Sale, it is only $5. I recently built a gaming PC, and very few of my friends would play it with me. Is it worth it if I'm going to play it alone? If not, is playing with strangers fun?

Thanks!
It depends on what sort of gamer you are. If you like quest-based dickery, then buy this game. If you like fast-paced pure shooting, Borderlands may not be for you, since the guns need to be weighed on multiple merits, and sidequesting is virtually required as doing only main quests won't level you high enough to beat the game

That said, I was given this game for the XBox as a christmas present, and beat it by myself before ever playing with others. I really enjoyed picking and choosing my skillsets to make me soldier a one-man bullet-spewing unstopppable death machine, not to mention backing him up with a SECOND bullet-spewing death machine when one just wasn't enough.

Basically, the larger firefights are over-the-top and hugely fun, if somewhat sparsely placed. The bosses are challenging as you continue thanks to nice level pacing, and the game's sense of humor is good enough to brighten up what would otherwise be a mostly story-less action tube.

Also, infinite ammo is described as having forgotten the necessity of reloading. MAGICAL!

I tried it out, got to the first boss even. Something about the style bugs me. I don't get the sense of wonder I felt while playing Fallout 3. I know it isn't REALLY a post-apocalyptic game, but it feels like it should be, and that it also falls short on it. I may try it again some more, but I'm in no rush.

If you enjoy playing Diablo solo then Borderlands solo is gonna rock. I really enjoy it regardless of whether my friends are on or not.
