I'm confused about how this Burger King/Tim Horton's merger works. I'm as pissed as everyone else that a national icon such as Tim Horton's is now part of a new corporation with the likes of Burger King, but at the same time BK is moving it's head office to Canada (which also means a significant ammount of new tax revenue going to my federal government because of the move). So if BK still American but just based in Canada, or is it a full on Canadian company now?

Their HQ is still in Miami or wherever it was. all that happened was that whoever owns Burger King now owns that other Canadian chain.

... Oh yeah, Burger King! I'd have forgotten they were a thing if it weren't for the stupid commercials.

Their HQ is moving to Canada, though (where has not been announced, though my money's on Toronto).

Well up until like 2008-2009 Tim Hortons was owned by Wendy's so this isn't the first time something like this has happened. As long as they just let Tim Hortons be I don't care. I mean Timmies makes a lot of a money already so I can't see them changing too much as long as they are smart. Actually I remember hearing that both chains are not going to do anything to combine and will stay indepent of each other storewise. Also its not Burger King itself buying Tim Hortons. Its a third company called 3G Capital that will own the majority of the comibined business. BK shareholders will have 27% and Timmies shareholders will have 22%.

Dear Canada,

Burger King sucks, you can have it and hopefully make it edible.

Signed,
America

P.S. If you could take Jack in the Box off our hands as well we'd appreciate it.

Dear America,

We don't want either.

Signed,
Canada

P.S. Don't corrupt Tim Hortons more than you already have.

Interesting. I remember reading about the buy out they did and also reading (I think it was a Tweek) saying they weren't moving. Seems that may have changed then

I miss the Tim Horton's that sold eclairs stuffed to the gills with whipped cream.

Their sweets selection hasn't been the same since they canned such awesome food.

On paper they are now a Canadian company, because the whole point of this is something called "Tax Inversion" where they are buying a company to merge with, and then claiming this makes them a new company which will be based somewhere else. They are doing this to dodge American taxes (which to be fair are excessive, especially under Obama) and pay less money into the Canadian economy. The message here is pretty much that if the government keeps taxing US businesses heavily they will leave and the US will get nothing, not more money.

In actual function though they are arguably an American company as the core of their business is very much US based, such as how they obtain their beef.

Dear Canada,

We're in agreement, then. We have a mutual enemy.

P.S. Can we please just move over to Canada already? We'll leave Arizona and Mississippi and all that stuff behind!
Dear Americans across the nation,

Look, we're willing to start the invasion forces up, but our military is pretty... infinitesimal. You're gonna have to meet us halfway.

But I want my elk cavalry. I don't care about the practicality, or feasibility. Our soldiers will charge in on the backs of combat-ready antlered charging machines! Lay waste to the cities!

...Er, you know, only the bad cities. Cause we're Canadians. We're all nice 'n stuff.

Sincerely,
Canada

It's a multinational corporation, it has been for some time.

All companies have a nationality, a way of thinking and acting that is characterized by that of a specific nation.

We have yet to see a truly multinational corporation, only ones which branch out around the world.
