Poor development, brewed by resting on laurels.

Or at least, that's what I think it is.

I think Call of Duty is doing perfectly fine, and I happened to enjoy Modern Warfare 2 despite the short campaign length (quality over quantity, after all).

From what I hear about Black Ops, especially with the addition of multiplayer bots, I'd say Call of Duty is probably improving!

MW2 was the last one to come out so... A better title would be "Why does MW2 suck so hard?" But then you could just type that into the search bar and find 10000000000000000000000 threads on it.

ever since mw2 it has been going downhill slowly ( my opinion )
Ah quick question, what CoD has come out since MW 2? Also the fact you said my opinion makes it a wonder I am even responding at all.

If it's going downhill it isn't because of the game, more so because of the annoying douches you have to play with in multiplayer that brings the whole feeling of the game down, and considering the kinda game it is multiplayer is the reason you'll really be playing it.

Ok agreed, MW2 sucked, we all know that, but come on the series going downhill? Nope. Hated maybe, but not downhill. Black Ops will be a fantastic game, I was a huge fan of WAW and this is 3 times the game this is, literally, all 3 treyarch teams are working on Black Ops, compared to 1 for WAW, each one gets a specific mode this time like Campaign/Multiplayer/Zombies.

Black Ops will finally be the COD that beats COD4 for the title of best in the series. Downhill? Not a chance.

Now can we stop with the COD threads, way too many for a game that isn't out yet.

I wouldn't say the series is going downhill......rather the series has brought it's sled to the top of the hill, preparing for the ride.

I agree that MW2 wasn't fun (I had serious issues with the multiplayer in terms of bugs/glitches, and with everyone in my school [minus the actual"gamers"] saying "OH SICK!!! MW2 IS TEH BEST GAME EVARZZZ!!!!!!!!!!") but one entry in a series does not indicate a downfall, but rather a combination of that with bad management is the early signs of a serious downfall (expecting players to pay for a buggy and unfair multiplayer alongside the cost of live, or in the case of PS3 [which applies to me] an online service people liked because it was free, is about as retarded as Kotick can get [although I'm sure he can outdo himself somehow]).

Chances are people won't say the series itself is going downhill till the obvious cash-ins are being released (which I guess already happened with the expensive map packs)

I don't think one bad apple equals a trend. Both the first MW and WaW are pretty solid games, and Black Ops looks promising also. I don't think the series is dead just yet.

It's not. Now that Infinity Ward are gone, i fully expect the franchise to soar to new heights.

Treyarch always were the more creative developer.

This thread is doomed to fail actually.

MW1 was a good game, loved it. MW2 just plain sucked someone's asshole dry and devoid of any actual fun or noteworthy singleplayer campaign.
You're quite wrong about this. If you disregard the story and focus purely on the gameplay, Modern Warfare 2 had some of the best single player levels in the series. Wolverines, the Gulag, Contingency and Of Their Own Accord were all brilliant.

The original Modern Warfare was a very succinct take on the nature of modern war, but with the sequel IW obviously decided to forsake any emotional depth for a more glitzy and action packed campaign. Enjoy the single player for what it is.

Its not going downhill considering how successful it is, and considering how successful Black Ops is predicted to be even before its out. Personally I enjoy MW2 a lot, sure there's shit to ***** about but every game has that, and the Black Ops trailers and vids that i've seen so far look damn awesome so I can't wait.

MW2's campaign was great fun.
Bombastic, over the top, complete, total and absolute nonsese and amazing fun for it.

It should be viewed as a comedy, and it then becomes hilarious.

Fuck the MP though, and fuck the way it's affected MP in other games. I'm tired of perks and luck factoring into the gameplay.
Games are a test of skill. Whether that skill is mental, physical or whatever. Once luck comes into it, the game loses its purity.
Unless we're talking card games, they seem to get away with it for some reason.

It used to have some semblance of heart, now it's all slow-mo deaths and helicopter crashes. And yes, that does apply to everyone's beloved Modern Warfare.

Yearly releases don't help either - and it stifles other games too when it gets it's release date every year because they're inevitably forced to postpone. Thank fuck Assassin's Creed is big enough now to hold it's ground.
