That alone is a massive blow but it wasn't the deathblow, the deathblow came when the focus shifted from PC to console... ruined.
Right. Care to explain to me why changing focus made such a big difference. Because last time I checked, a poorly made game is going to suffer on any platform, elitist attitude or not.
Ok I'll explain, games that aren't made primarily for the PC don't play on the PC as well as those that are. Simple concept huh?

Of course my perspective as a PC gamer may be different to that of a console gamer, but to be frank why should I care about the interests of console gamers?

Going downhill? Sure, after that mess of a game, modern warfare 2. On paper though, Black ops looks set to redeem Call Of Duty a bit. But I still suspect that the community will find a way to wreck it.
i hope blacks ops call can repair the damage that mw2 has done
Black Ops looks geared towards making their multiplayer fun. Look at their game modes. Sure, some of the aren't exactly original(gun game...seriously?!), but they're(mostly) different from the game types we've been playing for years and years now.

That alone has me interested enough to have pre-ordered it. It looks fun.

When a game sells in huge numbers i think around 11-13ish million copies it is a huge stream of revenue. The publishers do not wish to lose this stream of revenue. Therefore they force the developers to take little/no risks and try to keep it the same as well as being terrified of upsetting any big group of players. This not only results in a lack of evolution for the game, but it also result in the more creative people working on the project to leave which of course does not help and often results in a step backwards (MW->MW2).

mw2 has imbalanced multiplayer, but the singleplayer mode is great in my opinion. same with mw1

From personal opinion and that of dozens of others I have asked as the weeks have gone by, it's sheerly because the game has become mind numbingly boring, and the singleplayer is disgracefully short.

For all the various forms of assault rifle, shotgun, sniper rifles, and other mandatory tool of war, they all seem to do exactly the same thing. Rifles have 30 bullets and shoot fast, shotguns are crap, and snipers can kill anyone in one shot anywhere on the body.
In fact every gun kills anyone in one shot anywhere on the body.

Singleplayer is tragically short with little to absolutely no replay value, and it's dull. Just plain dull.
"What's around the next corner? Oh, more nazis (or terrorists). Didn't see THAT one coming."
Sometimes they're polite enough to bring their dog for a walk, but this just leads to frustration when the game can't decide how to let you kill them. (Do you melee before or DURING their bite? CoD4 changed this CONSTANTLY)

It's a shame because the older titles were pleasing and had some gripping multiplayer. But nothing has improved, the weapons have grown stale and samey, and the prospects or massive financial return have outshone the window for innovation.

So if it's good enough for you, it's good enough for everyone. Fair enough I suppose, I was hoping for a more in-depth reason, possibly something to do with cod, but I guess that vague explanation will do.

They threw away the realism and put in lots of explosions. Also, the developers got greedy and stupid.
I lol'd.

Seriously though....what realism? CoD's never had realism from day 1.

The series isn't going down hill but the single player campaigns for both modern warfare and modern warfare 2 were a bit short but the multi player really makes up for it.

Assuming Black Ops actually adds something to the franchise then I'd say it's climbing up not going down. If however, as I suspect, Black Ops is just as short, repetitive, glitchy, and generally same-y feeling as MW2 was than I may agree with you. If this is the case than I'd say it's because they're not bringing enough new stuff to the table and each new game is essentially adding a bunch of little insignificant gimmicks to the already overdone experience, ala EA Sports titles.

How can an entire franchise "begin to go downhill" with one game? Last time I checked, Black Ops isn't out yet, so what you're really saying isn't "Why is the franchise going downhill?", you're asking "Why does MW2 suck?"

Come on man, think these things through.

And I don't think MW2 sucked as hard as everyone thinks. Sure, the mulitplayer sucks(hard), but as far as I'm concerned, there's nothing wrong with the campaign/Spec Ops. Maybe, MAYBE the campaign could he longer, but that's a small complaint.

Well, when you have a 2 year development that results in a game that has a massive number of glitches and exploits, and then only support the game for a year, your series will not be very good. The last solid CoD was CoD4. WaW and MW2 both had a huge number of glitches at launch, and based on that, I would expect Black Ops to have the same.

Also, Activision killed it. It got big enough to kill off the original creators without losing a large amount of fanbase. Since most of the MW2 noobs don't even know what Infinity Ward is, they could afford to get rid of them and their desire of a new IP and not lose too much install base.

I actually just borrowed MW2 from a friend on Wednesday, played through it after work, so I was up until 5 in the morning (I finish work at 11:30pm). I can say that I enjoyed it, I played the PS3 version, I'm trying to improve my aim in FPS games on consoles.

I didn't really understand the story, but I liked how the gameplay was similar to CoD4. I loved the sniping missions the most. Sure the campaign was short, but that's kinda what I wanted, just something quick to dip my toes in.

CoD will improve when it's treated like a video game rather than a cash cow.

Its a bit iffy to say that a whole franchise is going downhill because you didnt think one game was good, not saying that MW2 was good, I never played it
Black Ops will be the first COD I get, so im on the fence on this one.
