MW2 was really rushed and killed by executive decisions, against all opposition by developers.
Poor guys, they had the roots of a good game, killed by the success of COD4, and was made solely to ride the hype train following that one.

ever since mw2 it has been going downhill slowly ( my opinion )
Ah quick question, what CoD has come out since MW 2? Also the fact you said my opinion makes it a wonder I am even responding at all.
I do believe there was a cell phone game. It wasn't quite up to par.

OT: Ummm..... Nope. Modern Warfare 2 was and is still one of the best games I own and I have probably put more hours into that game than any other one. Don't play it much anymore, due to the fact that I barely have any time to touch my console and the ridiculous amount of exploits, but it still holds a good place in my heart.

It made great strides with quality of multiplayer games everywhere, more so than the first Halo game.

The first game aged pretty terribly. The second one had some pretty memorable experiences but unfortunately never rose "above par" for FPS's. The third was terrible, the 4th had one of the most addicting campaigns I had ever played.

I had rented Bioshock and CoD4 together because of a deal I had gotten at Blockbuster, merely picking up CoD4 just to rake in the extra bonuses. Played about two or three levels of Bioshock, and then decided to put in CoD4.

Needless to say, I didn't play Bioshock the entire week I owned those games.

It went slightly downhill with the 5th installment, rather unmemorable title.

And I managed to ride the hype train all the way to release day. Single player was Good, not great. Multiplayer was a blast. For a while at least. Then it became more rage inducing, so I had to play it in chunks.

The end.

Edit: Actually, I'm not quite done.

Black Ops is actually doing nearly everything right. The first order of business was instead of catering to bad players, it was on making it a balanced game.

There will be no more "Free Kills". You have to work for a good game now.

CoD is down cuz it's gotten stale, and it relies way too heavily on its MP to cover for the short & pretty badly written SP.

Nice to know there is another Call of Duty veteran. I was worried all of them but me had died out when the new developers tried to cover up that it used to be a good series.

Part of the problem is that MW2 caters more than ever before to noobs, and pricks take advantage of this: People pick up strategies which give them easy kills and make it horribly unfair for people playing properly.

(for example one man army + noob tubes; overly accurate shotuns; marathon + lightweight + tac-knife, thermal scopes, painkiller, to name but a few)

Now fair enough they CAN be useful, but when i see a guy spend the entire game knifing people and running over my claymores unscathed it makes me sad inside and i feel the series has lost a little something.

Also, it doesn't help that infinity ward seemed to ignore it's fanbase after the
game's launch: The number of balance issues with MW2 which didn't get fixed are staggering (yes im looking at you UMP with your silencer which raises accuracy but glitchily doesn't lower bullet dammage).

It's like they took our money and then abandoned us to a harsh landscape of the prickish and the unskilled looking to pray on people behind cover with thier infinite noob tubes or camp us out from behind a corner with their heartbeat sensors.

Also, the fact that throughout the game's life nothing has been done about any of the hackers: 10th prestige lobbies have been running freely sice day 1 and modded controllers are more common than ever (If i get killed again by a FAL firing like an LMG I may just scream...)
Surely...surely there must have been something you could have done by now if you could be arsed!

The game is a damn magnet for cheaters and fools looking for easy kills, and it's runing it for people who want to play the game skillfully.

For me, if Blackops doesn't get it right I may lose faith in these games forever.

Rant over :)
this is all very true sir :)

These threads again eh? No, it hasn't gone downhill. Modern Warfare 2 has good multiplayer if you remove the competitive component and just have fun. The campaign is decent, hasn't got a great story but the gameplay is fine.

We done here?

Is it going downhill? Yes... yes it is. We all know CoD 4 is the best game in the world and will never be beaten, and that MW2 is a pretty awesome game as well, despite how easily pissed off people get at it. However CoD is going downhill because it is now only being made by Treyarch. Have they ever "made" a good game? No, no they haven't. It's stretching it saying that they even make games. The only games i know of with "Treyarch" written on the box are CoD3, CoD WaW, Black Ops and Spiderman 3. I don't really know about CoD 3 but the other two CoDs are blatant copies of IWs games. And Spiderman 3 speaks for itself (In actual fact it is also a copy of spiderman 2 but i'll leave that out).

So yes... yes CoD is going downhill but we needn't worry because Respawn (xD) Entertainment are working on there game and it should be awesome < RE's game < CoD4.

I don't know, I quite enjoyed MW2's single-player game, and wasn't overly frustrated by its multi-player. Though I admittedly no longer play the mp, it did eat up a couple o' dozen hours of my time. As for World at War, I personally thought it was better then CoD2. In fact I think the only genuinely mediocre CoD game I've played has been CoD3, and that doesn't really count, does it?

If you grew up playing Medal of Honor and Call of Duty on the pc and have them come out with a bland first person shooter with little replay value that only survived due to multiplayer.

I have enjoyed playing every call of duty game I have played (the only ones not being the original and the expansion or sequel to the original or whatever, CoD 2 was my first game is what im saying) and I don't see them going downhill anytime soon. its still insanely popular and well enjoyed for the most part, although MW2 did seem to piss quite a few people off...

Well.... I'm actually looking forward to Black Ops, and that's saying something because I don't normally look forward to FPS'.

I enjoyed the earlier Call of Duty games. I don't personally enjoy Modern Warfare, MW2, or World at War. So I'm not expecting to enjoy the newest title. Mind you, I enjoy FPS games, but I don't like the newer ones at all. Something about the older ones, back in World War II, just seem more appealing, and more fun to me than all the modern stuff.
