It's not just a font, it's a superhero!

I use Calibri unless specifically instructed to use something otherwise. Other than that, I never, ever use other fonts so I don't even know what Comic Sans looks like, much less how to recognize or hate it.

Then I was a wee lad, it was the only font I used. My teachers gave a bad pokerface and said "how nice."

Now when I'm all grown-up, turning 19 in April, I realize just how stupid it looked. Just how much pain my teachers had to endure, especially since everyone else in the class used Comic Sans as well.

Why isn't this working?

Oh well, screw it. **sigh**

I was going to type a giant "U Mad?" in Comic Sans, but apparently the "make the font comic sans" tag isn't working. At least, it isn't showing up in the Preview....

Edit: Nope, not working at all. **sigh**

OT: I like comic sans... for making comics. Which is what it's for, after all. It's also good for comic related things, like posters (particularly posters relating to comics). Going to have a discussion about literary archetypes in comic books? Make the poster with Comic Sans. Or Wizbang, another excellent comic book font. Or both.

Comic Sans looks okay on a computer screen, but absolutely terrible in say, a Newspaper. It looks too informal, like a middle-school student-chosen font.

I think all the hate for Comic Sans (and for Papyrus for that matter) just comes across as snobbery.

Our university Halls used Comic Sans in every notice that they printed out. Every sign, leaflet, everything. It didn't bug me at first, but my flatmate was an art student, and he frequently complained about it. Once you notice it it's one of those things that you can't unsee. It does annoy me now when I see it, because it is so overused.

It would be funny to see a Lord of The Rings dub where you take pivotal scenes and replace references to the ring with Comic Sans.

"Comic Sans drove your brother mad!"

"We must take comic Sans to Mordor!"

"You have my sword,
And my bow,
And my Helvetica!"

"One font to rule them all"

Anyone else? No? Just me then.

I see that the font looks childish but that is not relevant becuase it is easy to read and that is the most important thing. It is better that I can read the text like"we require ID for purchase of alcohole" or "live wire" than it looking properly formal.

I concur that it should only be used were it fits but that the most important thing is that you can read the text.

Why the hell does everyone hate Comic Sans?
For me, it's because every church bulletin, every badly-designed website, and every cheaply-designed party invitation ever is done by simply starting up MS Word, sticking the text into a column, and selecting the first lighthearted-but-still-readable font from the list. It shows no imagination or design skill whatsoever.

I like Comic Sans. How would I be able to read comics without it? /sarcasm

Seriously though, I wouldn't use it when I'm trying to be professional (ie: typing a report or posting bus times). But it has its niche.
