Because "just entertainment" or not he still pretends to be a reviewer. As long as he pretends to be a reviewer I'll judge him based on his merits as one. In other words, his lack of merit as a reviewer.
Riiiiight, this is gonna be a bad idea as you sound like you like to argue and i'll sound like a fanboy, but what the heck.

I'm not a fanboy, I do watch ZP but only for a few cheap laughs, nothing more. I'm just a Australian Gamer fan and Yahtzee regularly appears on their podcasts, and he has said time and time again that he doesn't consider himself a reviewer, he considers himself more of a critic. He doesn't weigh up a game, he just shouts at it for the shit things. As a result of this it makes it sounds like he hates everything when he's just purposefully avoiding the good and only talking about the bad.

Not trying to say 'Fuck you you're wrong!' just thought that kinda dismisses you're reason he lacks merit.

Go, and enjoy what you will enjoy. There's nothing wrong with enjoying a game others don't. If anything, it's better. If you can enjoy a game and others can't, then maybe you have lower standards, or maybe you just enjoy things more, you know? Why not?

You know one of the most frustrating boss fights for me, besides Ridley himself (whom I still haven't beaten yet) was that flying monster-thing that kept firin' his laser at me (God I hate that meme). If you haven't gotten to him yet, you should very soon. He's not very long after the ally-controlled robot boss fight. And you have to fight him 3 times too.

The use of the word 'canon' is almost ubiquitous these days to the point where it's become almost meaningless. To me it should be up to the original creator of something to decide what's canon and what isn't, or in the absence of the original creator, whoever is left in creative control of the thing. It's sure as hell not up to the fans in any case.
I thought the death Adam "Noooo" sound was a lot what happens in MetalGearSolid. "Snake, come in snake. Snake. SNAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE!" It was awesome then, and I can see it fitting now. It's probably where they got it from.

I just beat Ridley. That 3 part Hercules beetle thing was very annoying. About as annoying as the horseshoe crab thing earlier on.

I kept dieing repeatedly with Ridley. About 10 deaths in was when I realized that I have a super missile. Crazy right? I mean, they give you use of that thing right before you fight that bastard, you think I would've used it up front. After I started hitting Ridley with the super missile in his invincible form, he became cheese. I was surprised at how easy it was then.
Yeah super missiles, I actually had to look that up on GameFAQs, although I haven't had the chance to try it out yet, been having computer difficulties that've been occupying most of my time. But when I read that I was like "Damn it! Why didn't I think of that!"
I might give that a try tonight.

I don't know, I didn't find the horseshoe crab guy all that annoying, but that flying beetle thing pissed me right off. Another interesting fight was with the lava fish thing. It took me forever to figure out that you had to hook him with the grapple beam. Then it was Yaaaay, lava fishing!

Critics are also expected to point out what's good about something. Being negative for the sake of being negative is NOT what a critic does. It's what a retard, like Yahtzee, does.

And dear god is it easy. Literally any jackass off the street can do his "job".

You know the funny thing? The thing that shows that Yahtzee has NO fucking clue what he's talking about?

Reviewers are critics and vice versa. THEY MEAN THE SAME ZARKING THING. Saying that a "Critic" is supposed to only point out the negative things and is different from a reviewer is a defense for not doing the full job as saying that a bodyguard differs from a soldier in that they only have to "protect your body".

It's weird, but you reminded me that people's standards these days are far too high. As people grow up, they are expecting every game in the universe to grow up with them, completely neglecting the fact that there are people younger than us who want to enjoy the same basic oldschool games as well. I don't know, maybe I started in the era where gaming was just blocks and jumping (and pong! I love pong!) and am therefore predisposed not to taking something like playing games seriously. Or maybe I'm missing something...

Either way, it's weird that someone gives so much hate to a game. It's okay to be upset at certain aspects, like the character obliteration aspects of 'voiced' Samus. But to hate the game with such vinegar and salt in all entirety to the point that one never plays it and tells others to avoid it like a plague seems a tad extreme.

I caught onto the lava fishing right when the lava fish ate the grappling hook thing. In fact, I was waiting for hte moment that it opened its mouth to hook that bastard.

For some reason Ridley now seems neglectfully piss easy when I figured out his weak point. Hercules beetle guy was far harder than him now that I think about it. I'm a tad let down, though I did have plenty of time to yell at the television in RAGE when I was repeatedly dieing.

Just for the record, I don't care about defending Yahtzee, i'm just doing it because i'm not happy with what you're saying (I mean that in the friendly way).

You missed what I was trying to say but it was worded pretty badly.
I meant he only criticises not reviews...Argh I know it's a bad argument but the point I'm trying to make is that the definitions of the words don't matter, it's the face he doesn't think he's a reviewer, he's aware of the fact he only criticises. Out of ZP he says how he liked games he slammed.

Also, don't mean to get all righteous but it's against the rules to talk about the people featured in the content, which doesn't really matter but when you're saying "Yahtzee has NO fucking clue what he's talking about" and calling him a retard might earn you enough reports for mod wrath, especially with how many people are in love with him here- just some advice.

I love how you're bitching about Yahtzee in a thread that has nothing to do with him. You'd think somebody who dislikes wouldn't bring him up in the first place, but that's exactly what you did.

Obsessed with the thing you despise. You people are funny like that.

the problem with Yahtzee is that he is mainly used by griefers or crybabies who don't like a game that a lot of other people like and then link to his reviews to basically say "see, see, my opinion is VALIDATED!!!!!" despite the fact that his word (just like any other critic) isn't really the end-all be-all of reviews. The worst was when Other M came out and it was used by the detractors to validate themselves despite the fact that Yahtzee's criticisms of Nintendo are well-known and as such are neither surprising or meaningful. Hell, his Other M review was meaningless as far as I'm concerned because you can't exactly claim to be a critic of sexism while also making a menstruation joke.

I feel like quoting you again, because you are generally fun to discuss things Metroid with.

I beat the game, went back, collected all the power ups, and cruised through the epilogue. Even checked out the gallery and wondered who the fuck the Deleter was openly on google.

*spoilers follow, read on if you don't give a damn about the plot*

I wasn't too bothered by things right up until the Adam backstabbing scene - where you get to an area you badly want to kill things in. I mean, come on! Metroids! A whole room of them! What the whole game-title is about! He shoots you in the back, kills a Metroid, then tells Samus that she's too weak to kill them and to leave it to him. He literally says something along lines of, "You're weak and way too important as a tool, I'll take care of things from now on. Go back and clean up the mess in the kitchen." Meanwhile I'm all, "But... You.. with the freezing. And the nuking... Me!" To be honest, even Samus is unamused.

It makes even less sense when you face MB and kill off hoards of those little suckers without much trouble.

So the fun game-play made me decide to get a perfect score, and the epilogue just made Samus look bad. Would've been better if she said, "before they blow this thing, I want to collect all those power ups I left behind." ... At least the last Last last enemy was a thrill. Made up for those stupid butterflies.

Left with no real answers and confusion, I went through google and eventually read this: http://moonbase.rydia.net/mental/blog/gaming/metroid-other-m-the-elephant/article.html

Now I'm rather disgusted with Sakamoto and Nintendo for letting him get away with that... Was good that I ignored the chunk of cut-scenes during game play, and that the scenes are entirely skippable on the replay.

I'm a tad worried about the future of Metroid. And I keep thinking back to when Nintendo wondered in complete open confusion why the games didn't sell well. Are they going to let this plot bastardization continue? Or did the heads of Nintendo only see the gameplay and graphics and not get an edge in on the craptastic story? Will they think that the customer dissatisfaction relates to gameplay alone and try to tone it down or destroy it in some pre-conceived misunderstanding? Will Team Ninja make Metroid Other M 2? I am left to dread... and to make funny fan-comics.

Actually, that was said in the hopes that it would stop people mentioning him. It mostly worked.

As for Other M? I don't know if I said this before but... I mostly blame the awful voice actress.

Except it caused a Yahtzee derail in which people devoted entire posts to talking about him, and nothing else.

Oh look, more back and forwards about Yahtzee, this is new to me!

Anyways, I love Yahtzee and watch his videos every week and have seen them all multiple times. He points out some worthy criticisms while at other times I disagree with him completely.

It's entertainment, as well as being informative, you don't need to take him seriously nor do you need to dismiss his review skills entirely, okay people? It doesn't have to be so black and white. Just sit back and have a laugh, if I didn't play games he hated I would've missed out on some amazing games.

OT: Haven't played Other M yet but I'll get around to it one day when I can.
