Is anyone excited, should probably be the question...

I wasn't even aware it was still going, the last thing I remember about the UK's entry into the Eurovision was Katrina and the Waves

That was a few years ago now, anyway, this year we have Andrew Lloyd Webber, giving us one of his abortions to put forward, and it's being approached in much the same way as Britain Has Talent, X factor, pop idol, whatever, all those god awful reality shows that EVERYONE insists on watching and commenting on.
I tend not to watch them, they aren't good for my mood

The only reason I watched Susan Boyle on YouTube was because South Park made a joke about her

The only reason i know about it this year is that the Guardian saw fit to publish an article about one of the girls who is in the running

The Eurovision is dead...does anyone actually care about it, at all?

it was good but now it's all bullshit and politics. you can pretty much predict who each country will vote for. i won't be going out of my way to watch it.

I think some eastern european countries might.

Apart from that, I don't think there's anything.

I love watching it, every song is either really good or really cheesy. Recently I've noticed the music is going back to its roots and is getting better, and less cheesy. So yes, I'll still watch it.

Meh I'll probably go to a eurovision party but I'm not that excited. Usually there are only one or two interesting songs.

It's stopped being a contest, and is more of a political vote system. Us Brits aren't bery popular in Europe at the moment, which is why we've not done so well in the last couple...
[/rant]
Sorry 'bout that.
To answer the question, I'm not bothered about it at all and I never have been.

The people that organize it and sing in it are very excited!
Are you sure thats not just money catching their eye? :p

Anyway i suppose i should give a proper answer - Well i cant speak for any other nations but over here in britland its as much a national shame as a natonal joke, with the only people voting those with absolutely nothing better to do. That said, i was excited for it last year because i heard Bill Bailey was running, but that never came to pass, and so the world was a sadder place..

No. *sad face*
He said last year he wasn't going to do it again because it's all gone political.

All I remember about Eurovision is that we (Engalnd) always suck. And the one time I watched it all the way through Finland won, Lordi. Heh.
To answer the original question, no I am not.

Na, it stopped being a serious compition ages ago. I mean c'mon, Ireland had a puppet representing us. Granted, that puppet had been with me throughout childhood, but still.

I was going to be all "WTF is Eurovision?" until you mentioned Katrina and remembered it was a project started around 30 years ago to basically catalog all of Europe-- I didn't know it was still going either, or more accurately it's been a few years since I read its Wikipedia page so even if I remembered I couldn't be sure I was right. Then I thought I'd read the whole thread before clicking "Post" and saw it was "Katrina and the Waves", obviously a band... WhoTF are they and what would make them pick a name like that? Then I read further and found you're apparently talking about some "talent show"-- here I thought it was something important (sorry if you love it, but, well, collection of knowledge > American Idol rip-off-- and if American Idol wasn't the first then I'm wrong about that part but it doesn't make this show any more important).

Yes we suck but songs like Scooch - 'Flying The Flag For You' really suck but it grows on you, plus with BBC press the red button and you got sing along so you know what the ones that aren't speaking in english are saying.

Lordi was the only song that I can remember that (for about almost 15 years) that won because it was a damn good song and not voting for your neighbours.

Yeah your wrong American Idol is a spin off from the Brit Pop Idol but they don't do it from the eurovision theres another show for that

reminds we when Americans think they did 'Who Wants To Be Millionaire' first

Throwing a Eurovision party, baby!

I wish it wasn't quite so blatantly political, although it's kind of cute. But it's the epitome of So Bad It's Fabulous.
