Its an anime movie where you pause to run in a straight line and just keep pressing x for battles

It's okay. I'm about 5-10 hours into it, and it passes the time, but obviously the plot isn't coherent at all, and it gets really repetitive really fast. If you're looking for a good RPG, go for Dragon Age: Origins or Mass Effect 2 instead.

Very pretty game! about 20-25 hours in, have finished the tutorial, then I had to go back to uni, this was a few months ago, play it alot on release day and that week, haven't really picked it up since. There are afew annoying cheap bosses and while quite awesome, seems to drag a little in places.

The battle system is actually pretty cool once it gets going, but everything else - and I do mean EVERYTHING - is terrible.
Even the graphics?

Ok so I sort of enjoyed Lost odyssey, but gave up on it because it was such a grind, should I get FF XII
I will say this about Final Fantasy XIII; it's the prettiest movie you'll ever press buttons to watch.

It is not, however, a good game. It is boring; the combat is dull and repetitive, the levels linear and everything is paced terribly (why does it take three hours for me to unlock levelling up?) I played it for eight hours, lost a fight and just decided not to restart the fight because I'd have more fun doing literally anything.

I understand the linearity thing stops being an issue after twenty hours but you have to be pretty masochistic to put up with it that long.

Well, even people who like it say that "story picks up after 20 hours". So if you don't like the grind, a game that doesn't (officially) start for 20 hours might not be your cup of tea.

But I've never played it myself so I'll leave the exact explanation to others.
That claim is complete bullshit, I got sucked in after about half an hour if that. It all depends on how much you pay attention and actually want to get swept along with it.

I guess they weren't that bad, but that doesn't excuse the fact that none the female characters seemed to have any freaking hips.

How the hell could someone fight with those matchstick legs?

Touche'.

I found the design rather pleasing, but that's always the way with character art. Your Mileage May Vary and all that.

it is terrible in my opinion..
horrid storyline, goofy characters, boring gameplay,no exploration,no shops,no npc interaction, and the combat system wants nothing to do with you.. taking the final fantasy outta final fantasy and making a game that should have had another title and been left out of the franchise

I don't get what they were thinking with the battle system.

I don't like traditional turn based battle systems much, but their advantage is at least you can control your whole party and have time to strategise your moves. In FF13 you don't get direct control of your allies and the battle system is mostly too fast to think about and pick your own moves, so it's an ATB based battle system with the same disadvantages as traditional ATB systems (unimmersive menu based control, awkward pauses waiting for the bar to fill up) but none of the actual advantages of traditional turn based systems. So it sucks.

It's such a wasted opportunity, too. If the game is only going to let you control one character, then why not let us control that character directly, Tales style? Why even bother with this bloody menu based fucking around? Tales sytle action RPG control of one character coupled with paradigm shifts might actually be really good. But no, they didn't do that.

Plus everything else other than the graphics is bad, too.

It's pretty...

RPG... it's not. Square is even saying its not one. And it's not...it's more a not action...not adventure.... strategy corridor shootum up?

I'm 30 hours in, at 20 hours the story did NOT pick up. And no the time flow does not change as running forward the game flows exactly the same for everyone...there is no exploring, no adventure...point a to point B. Characters are a mismatch of all other ff games like they had a dart board and threw random darts at attributes...

Main character is...-throw-
Female...
is -throw-
A soldier
-throw-
uses a gunblade
-throw-
Is a brooding tough charatcer

RPG it is not, interactive movie it is. And good in that acspects. If you have downgraded the idea of a rpg to "Choice and morals for a character are not part of a rpg (which they are EVERYTHING) and upgrading you weapon and armor is all that counts." this game is for you!

But I had a greater RPG experience playing Gauntlet while Conan the Barbarian was playing on HBO in the next room.
