Just look at the new games coming out. A Halo clone, a God of War clone, a Call of Duty clone, and countless sequels. The indie game market seems to be the only place with orginal games, and that's dying too, because more and more clones are coming out to capitalize on the succes of other games. (I'm looking at you, fortresscraft! And a ton of zombie games that are somehow released on the indie market, my other eye is on you!)

So is gaming dead?
No, but you my friend are pretty clearly trying to get a job at a Sensationalist Tabloid newspaper. I've heard of these guys called the Evening Standard......

They had this article called "Are ALL of Britain's youths Demon-spawns?", because a small number of British kids smashed stores and lit up some houses. And I was like, "Just because a few kids are bad doesn't mean the entire generation is worthless..."

What? Of course not.

The FPS market was dead for a fair while but it's starting to have a good resurgence with Deus Ex, Serious Sam 3 etc.

Besides if Hideo Kojima, Shinji Mikami, Tim Schafer, Suda 51, Atlus and many others are still kicking about then I think gaming should be more than fine in future.

How has the game market changed? They copy what's popular. This happened on every console generation. It'll top off an other things will be made till the NEXT popular thing gets done.

Are people still buying the sequels and clones? Yes they are. As long as that happens gaming will not be dead, you can't call something dead if MILLIONS of people are still doing it.

Theres enough older good games to play till i die. Gaming isnt(or not at all) just about playing the new stuff.

You know every time i see this thread i laugh my ass off cause i know the person who made it only plays three types of games and only about 6-7 AAA games that fallow that style.

No, but most the company's are running out of ideas, they just need time to come up with new ideas...like Hollywood.

Does anyone here play video games? Yes? Then gaming is not dead. Next question please.

Gaming is been split in two. One is the mainstream which are getting more like cliched hollywood blockbusters that are is slowly shedding deeper gameplay elements in sake of something thats bland & watered down, that gamers can relax to after a hard day at work.

For those who want something more involving from their games theres the indie / niche market who make games in genres (and sub genres) that mainstream nolonger deem worth it. The only problem with niche games is that they tend to not see any marketing, so its up to gamers to do their own legwork and sort out the wheat from the chaff.

However how we pay for games is changing. It seems that more and more devs / publishers are moving away from paying once for a single product to paying regulary for a service. I expect more and more AAA publishers will be become something thats a hybrid of MMO just like MW3.

Clones? There may be similarities but I doubt there is actual clones. The only real clone I think of is Space Marines being a clone to Gears of War. Even then, it shows some differences.

Goodness why do people always use the words "clone"....it's irritating. If every game was a clone of it, I WOULD BE PLAYING THE SAME GAME! Every game brings something new.
