I want to change the quote but I'm not a ****. Halo changed Console FPS games forever it is still by PC standards a mediocre series but a Good solid first game that went downhill after that.

You do know they actually change the mechanics of every FF game the only thing that remains constant in FF games is similar story themes. Halo has barely changed any mechanics since it started out. I can think of only around 5 changes to the game series from Halo 1-3. While in every game in FF the whole skill system and stat gaining system has been completely redone. There is no way FF games are released twice a year when seems to take about 4 years to make one game.

OT: Halo was generic when it first started out. It was made to bring PC standard of FPS games to consoles. Along with itself and Timesplitters they set the bar for standard for consoles for FPS games. Mediocre as a whole yes but it is successful for completing the goal it set out to do.

Quite so, but then again space marines haven't really been interesting since Warhammer 40,000 pretty much invented the space marine archetype.

Yeah, comparing Just Cause 2 and Halo was kinda weird.
But no, with the exception of Halo Wars, I've enjoyed every Halo game in some sort of way.
ODST had fire fight, but the rest of it was pretty generic.

Yes, and the mechanics have been worked on with every Halo title. I was just using FF as a rough example, should have figured someone would call me out on it ^^; But the core game play hasn't changed. Skill system and a stat system redo are about equal to changing the way a menu works. It doesn't change how the game is played.

Square releases a Final Fantasy based game every year, whether it be a spin off or whatever.

Halo Wars is anything but generic. It's a great RTS on a console.

Has anyone tried halo reach beta here? That was awesome. The weapons are all balanced, the powerups are unique and equally as powerful.

... Using autoaim, limited inventory, and regenerating health to cover up the crippling limitations of thumbstick controls isn't a revolution. Its a dumbing down. A Devolution.

Halo started the trend of "accessibility" over all other concerns, a concept that is killing gaming one day at a time.
What game were you playing? Halo: CE didn't have autoaim (No idea where that came from...) and while it had regenerating shields (which fit), your health didn't regenerate, you still needed to find health kits.
As for the limited inventory, I would like to point out how damn difficult it is to switch between a dozen weapons while playing on the console. It may be easy on the PC, but it isn't on consoles.
And you seemed to forget the introduction of vehicles, a large mutliplayer mode that surpassed those before it, and its kick-ass single player mode with Co-op.

As for your Devolution comment, you do know that every shooter for the past... what, 8 years has followed that trend, with the exception of the Valve games, but then, they've always been ones for taking the path less traveled.
Regenerating shields were actually taken from Tribes, if I remember correctly.

As for a larger multiplayer mode that surpassed those before it, on consoles that's in a sense true. However on PCs it's not, not even close (in fact before Bungie was bought by MS, when Halo was going to be a Mac exclusive, they were aiming for 40v40 online multiplayer). But the fact remains it hasn't grown up past that point. it's still the same numbers in an online match as it was in Halo 2, and it's just not impressive anymore when other games do it bigger and better (imo, of course)
They were also aiming for it to be a RTS. Then a Third Person Shooter.

Yup, I remember. They also had wildlife on the Halo, and you could go all the way around it (when it was still a 3PS tactical based game). I followed the game for a few years in high school before it finally went over to the Xbox and I was vastly disappointed in the end product

Honestly, I don't think any other game will ever feel 'exactly' like Halo. Sure htye may control similarly or have similar stories, but the mixture of decent plot, great gameplay, interesting environments, hilarious deaths and epic music help to give the Halo series a sort of charm and personality unique to Halo.

Well maybe with their newfound creative freedom (Halo was and is owned by Microsoft) they can accomplish what they were aiming for.

Considering the way most shooters are played these days, I think Halo is one of the least generic franchises out there. I can't even think of another AAA shooter out there right now with good vehicles, a color pallette that expands beyond gray and brown, and doesn't involve terrorism.

Sure there's plenty of sc-fi FPS's out there, but are any of them even remotely as high quality and painstakingly polished as the games of the Halo franchise? No.

I'll never understand the criticisms the Halo games receive. If COD is more your cup of tea or you're not a fan of how melee-centric Halo's gameplay is, that's fine, but that doesn't make it a bad game.

Not to mention how so many people roll there eyes when another Halo comes out. Once Reach is released, Bungie's Halo series will have spanned 5 well-polished, enjoyable games. I hate when anyone sardonically utters, "ANOTHER HALO GAME? GEEZ!" Isn't the Megaman series in the 40's now? And how many of those games are any good? 12 tops?

Uhg, I could go on and on.

I hate Halo... i believe, very firmly that they stole their ideas from the Tribes series... look it up. 'Tribes: Vengeance' is one of my all time favorite games.
Man, do I wanna play those games.

He said becoming. He means Halo 3, ODST, Reach...
The first was good. I think that, you think that, but just cause the first was good does not mean the rest will be good.
When the flood appeared in CE, it was an amazing and unexpected twist. Now the flood are just...meh.

Becoming? It already is pretty generic. It was generic even when it first came out.

The one big thing it did was take FPS's, put them on a console that could handle them, and gave them a way to play against people anywhere in the world. It's the online play that it'll be remembered for, not anything else.

Actually, that award goes to DooM and Quake, in my opinion. I believe Halo made it more accessible for console people. But I don't see any evidence that states it revolutionized the genre when everything it's done has basically been done before it even came out, you know? ;)
^This. It seems young people these days are forgetting that no, it wasn't halo that revolutionised the FPS, but doom and quake and other golden titles of the age gone by.
