I'm not seeing it, just looks like an amped up version of Killzone 1 with many improvements to me.

Realism is realism, they looks similar because they're both trying to look like the same thing.

I used some hyperbole but you did say that the target audience of Halo games shuns thinking.
No, what I said was that the game itself shuns thinking. It removes a large portion of the strategic elements from FPSes.

They aren't selling to a demographic that seems to shun thinking.

I haven't played any CoD game so could you explain to me what you mean?
Some similarities I have noticed:
-------------------------------------
When you hit someone four lines flash inside your targeting sight to confirm.

There appears to be a crate which is the focal point of the map, and is obviously being captured.

objective is highlighted and visible on HUD

when someone is killed it shows the weapon that killed them displaying both names.

Obvious sprint button, with gun pointed slightly down, with delay on upon return to normal speed.

Targeting HUD is the exact same as COD, and when running it dissipates.

Grenade takes time to throw, and can be held (last part could be a slight misinterpretation)

Person only lights up on radar after firing.

Game flow seems very similar to COD (objective)
-----------------------

While the things I listed are in no way Unique to COD, it is beyond coincidental that many small details are used in both.

See any similarities? I do. I propose that Killzone isn't going to kill halo, but Call of Duty.
I'm surprised you referenced Call of Duty, rather than Gears of War. Good article though. Well written.

Fine, I phrased it poorly.
If by phrased poorly you mean "I was wrong and then I lied about being wrong"

killzone 1 was suppose to be a halo killed but it failed to make a dent in master chief's armor. when i first saw screen shots of killzone 2, i didn't know it was killzone and i though it would try to be a call of duty killer.

Sorry for misinterpreting then. You are wrong though, strategy is an integral part of middling and advanced Halo play even more so than shooters like Counter-Strike or Call of Duty.

Oh really?
Yes, Counter-Strike has no power weapons to pick up and very little emphasis on "map-control."

Just about every multiplayer FPS ever focuses on map control on higher levels of play. I can't think of any that didn't. An FPS that didn't would have to be a crappy FPS indeed and I've yet to stumble upon one.

It's actually very simillar to fighting games in that respect though the map itself is not what you are trying to control in a fighter. Controlling space is very important.

First of all kudos to the OP for making a well thought comparison with a decent analysis.

Ya rly.

Many maps on Halo 3 have a strong emphasis on controlling areas of the map and resources. I'll admit that this is wasted on most players, especially those who aren't communicating freely, any time which does use smart tactics will do a lot better. On Valhalla, for example, it is essential that you control the middle of the map whatever game type it is. It grants control of the all important Spartan Laser, and lets you cut down enemies coming through the man cannon. Another example is Standoff, which has large areas around the map which are designed for flanking maneouvers.

Obviously this is more pronounced on strategic gametypes, eg. CTF or Assault. In CTF it is essential to have a decent exit strategy, as it is quite easy for a team to cut you down when you're carrying it (your speed is decreased to about 75% when carrying the flag).

For an example of the smaller maps, The Pit has an interesting set up. The Rocket Launcher spawn is in the centre of the map, but at either side there is a Needler which is perfect for cutting down any one rushing it. There is also a small bunker where the Energy Sword spawns, which would be perfect for camping. However, there are small holes at the top of the walls which you can use to chuck grenades in.

This is a bit off topic, I know, but I just wanted to cover why Halo is better than some people assume.

Good user interface/ideas should be "stolen" and not ignored. Why would you not want a better game?
Im not debating if it SHOULD be stolen but rather IF they are.
