Does the 'Halo' world have the potential to be as in depth and as milked as the 'Star Wars' universe?
They're good games.
And the books are relatively interesting, with microsoft pumping millions into more Halo related projects.
Are todays youths going to grow up with Halo as their Sci-Fi fad?

if halo were like star wars, then halo 3 would be the new movies, because it sucked and the story was crap

I liked Halo 3. It wasn't quite as good as the original but it was sure as hell better than 2. The story was alright and I would have to say I agree with Yahtzee as it being not bad but only average.

Star Wars has become.....More of a classic now.
It doesn't seem to appeal to the youth of today the way it did to my lot.
They can't release any new films.
They've covered all the books now, haven't they?
It's becoming so dated.
And now, kids seeing there dads, or their friends playing halo...would that have an impact?

well Halo is almost certainly the most popular science fiction story of our generation so I suppose it could be compared to star wars

The story is quite gripping.
It has that element.
And now microsoft are financing the movie.
Alegedly.
Could it ever be as big though?

halo the game series isn't really like the first three star wars movies (lets face it, everything else is a spin-off, unworthy of anyone's time), for the simple fact that when star wars came out, it was unique in the sci-fi genre, but when Halo came out, it was a first-person shooter set in a giant space station where you had to stop an alien race from taking over the universe (see: metroid). another difference is that star wars killed off one of it's main protagonists early in the story, and i don't really recall anyone important being killed off in the halo series that wasn't an antagonist. so in my opinion, halo isn't as innovative as star wars was at the time, and it doesn't pull the viewers heartstrings as much either. thus, not new star wars.
edit: if there is a similarity between the two, it's that they both inspired hundreds of rip-offs and spin-offs, but in that sense you could say that Halo is the next godzilla.

I haven't seen anything in Halo that really shows the originality of the franchise - it's pretty standard sci-fi stuff, really.
Star Wars, in it's day, was a very original cross between science fiction and the stereotypical medieval fantasy cliches, and some how it all just worked. And, of course, Lightsabres.

Until there are more people other than just the stereotypical immature male American teenager talking smack with a shamfeully high pitched voice on Xbox Live, and legions of disproportionally male obsessed fans dressing as Marines and Brutes and Master Chiefs carting around replica weapons to game conventions and selling pathetically over priced items on online auctions site, Halo doesn't even come _close_ to Star Wars.

depends on how much Microsoft (not bunige, Microsoft owns the rights to Halo) is willing to milk the franchise. Star wars had to have made half of its money from action figures and legos alone.

there is allot more to Halos story than you think, you just have to look. for example, In the novels there are some great stories about the inner workings of the covenant and how its social structure is under the constant threat of a total breakdown while the only thing keeping them together is a zealot mad with power and leading his people on a path of destruction

Halo certainly has the potential. The depth to the universe is crazy and they can just keep adding more and more with the games.

But I've got to say the original Halo was gold and Halo 3 can suck it, though I still play it from time to time.

The problem with Halo is that it's so generic and plain that anyone, and I really mean ANYONE can write an additional part of it's story and still make it seem like it's part of the games. Making it seem deeper and more interesting than it really is.

The same goes for Star Wars, to some extent at least.

99% of the people in the world couldn't tell you shit about the Halo story. You can't say the same about Star Wars. Fuck, I own Halo 3 and got out of it a very generic and dull story. Any comparisons can only be drawn from a Halo fanboy's mind.

If you didn't play Halo 1 or 2 than you have NO right to insult the story but if you did than you just don't have very good taste

1. I did, and the story was never anything to get crazy about. And if someone did come in to it without the first two shouldn't the game do something to pull them in?

2. I could say that your tastes aren't good for you liking it. Opinion is seperate from fact so please don't judge me by that kthxbai.

I wasn't really jugging you I was kind of being sarcastic because you said that only halo fanboys could understand the story and I would be considered a Halo fanboy, so really I was kind of making fun of myself but not many people get my jokes anyway :)

I think it has the potenetial to be as medicore as the Starwars franchise. Just look at how the games are arranged compared to the movies...

1) Halo(The 2nd best one) 1) Starwars Episode IV: A New Hope(the 2nd best one)

2) Halo 2(The Best one) 2) Starwars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back( The best one)

3) Halo 3(The most dissapointing one) 3) Starwars Episode VI: (the most dissapointing)

Now all Halo needs are 3 more bad games to be worth the amount of crap like the new starwras movies and the series will have been milked just like the Starwars franchise...
