Hitting a girl is bad if you are a gentleman. Of course the idea of gentlemen and ladies isn't fashionable anymore because its inherently sexist and sexism has been a hot topic for quiet some time. If you really believe in the equality of the sexs then hitting a girl is no worse then hitting a boy.
What about hitting a boy is as worse as hitting a girl? It's a matter or perspective :p
I don't make the rules I just know that its in the code of chivalry (somewhere) that men don't hurt ladies. GO ask the complex relationship of medieval values modern romanticism and cultural trends if you want to know why.
Well it's not a set of rules that it's written somewhere, it is just etiquette. And it's not complex at all. Hitting anyone is impolite and uncivilised.

If i feel in any sort of actual danger, yes, i would hit a woman. (See a weapon, or a physical dominance, bodybuilding etc) Generally though her hitting me isn't putting me in enough danger for me to hit back, if shes doing damage then i might hit back or restrain.

Blocking, evading would be my first reactions, keeping in mind most girls that have come at me were generally the same size build as me and just aimed straight for my balls. At that point everything is fair game, slap me in the face, i wont hit you back, try and kick my balls and you'll lose teeth, period.

Hard to be a gentleman without balls, at that point you are endangering my childrens.

That being said, a girl yelling at me, getting in my face, or blocking my path, shuving, isn't enough for me to physically dominate her, but yes they do have a tendancy to challenge you physically and then call you a coward if you demonstrate the difference, its pretty stupid.

I mean, I'm 21, and my sister is 19. Growing up we used to hit each other all of the time. Hit, punch, bite (well she used to bite me sometimes), pinch, push, and a few times slap. Mostly as a kid, however we did it every now and then as teenagers. We don't really fight anymore except verbally. The last physical altercation was about a few months ago, when my sister was pissed about something and blocked me in the hallway, and started yelling at me and shoving me. At first i just stood there waiting for her to move out of my way, and then she did it again, so i shoved her out of the way far enough for me to get through.

I dunno, i'm not even that big. I'm about 5'7'' and 112 pounds, and she's about 5'4'' and 115 pounds. So, i think it's fair. She's bigger than me...

As a 112 pound guy, i legitimately think a lot of girls could potentially be a threat against my safety if they were to attack me. I hate how everyone assumes just because im a guy im automatically much stronger, and a girl couldn't possibly be a threat, and i have no reason defending myself. Whatever happened to equality?

Now, im not for some big buy beating up his wife just because he's a douche. However, i think people should stop thinking in black and white about everything.
Social norms are social norms. There's also the expectation that women won't engage in violent behavior, not that it's of any justification.

Short answer is no, there shouldn't be much of a distinction between hitting a girl and hitting a guy, to be honest I've always had a bit of a problem with any contact with girls though, mainly because if you touch their breasts it would count as sexual contact which seems to be far more taboo'd than violent behavior, and to be frank they're just so conveniently placed that they're hard to avoid.

Hitting anyone is bad, but to me there's no difference for hitting a woman, equality is equality, to hit a man or woman is equally bad, depending on the severity of the situation and circumstances.

Since when is hitting anyone OK?

If someone attacks me, they get a response proportionate to the threat they present - I don't care if they're male or female. If they offer no threat I'm probably just going to grab them and restrain them. If they're my size or bigger I'm going to beat them senseless before they can do it to me.

Solution is just not to attack people really.

I always thought it was funny how girls are perfectly within their rights to slap guys, but when a guy so much as looks at a girl wrong, folks get all up in arms. I'm not saying I'm for violence against women (or anyone, for that matter), but it's still quite the double standard.

On the internet I would say no; IRL I would dodge the question because hitting women is taboo. LoL, 'equality.'

Throwing a punch with the express purpose of injuring and/or starting a fight is bad however, regardless of gender if they throw the first punch I will do everything in my power to restrain that person without hurting them, unless I have to, I don't care where you keep your reproductive organs, if you aimed to hurt me and leave me no options I'm going to hurt you right back, it's only fair.

I've hit a woman in martial arts training and mock fights, but never in anger. If a woman attacked me with intent to harm me than I would not hesitate to defend my self, however I do not think that I could strike a woman I care for.

Fighting a girl as a guy is a lose-lose situation

If you lose? Lol, you just got beat up by a girl
If you win? Dude, you just beat up a girl!

They should be able to hit you back. Hitting them to show dominance is kinda sexist. But if it's a fair fight then I don't see the problem.

I've been hit by girls so many times and I've never hit one back.

When I was younger, a girl I knew would like to pick on me in front of her friends because I was so passive. One day she took it too far and dared to kick me in the nuts, so I gave her a black eye. Last I heard of her. Pretty fair, if not, don't care.

So, if you're a short guy, and some bodybuilder woman corners you, starts beating you up. Then proceeds to attacking your family, you'll just standby and watch?
Did I say anything about whether or not I'm a gentleman or if I believe in hitting a girl or not? No, I didn't. Don't put words into my mouth, thank you very much.
I totally agree with you, my good sir. The next time a girl asks me why didn't I hold the door for her I'm just gonna ask if she believes in equality among sexes. If she answers yes, I will tell her to piss off. Otherwise, by all means will I open the door for her, and then I will send her into the kitchen to make me a damn sandwich.
Holding a door open is a nice thing to do regardless of gender. You shouldn't make people make you sandwiches. Everyone knows that hand made sandwiches are better. Be sure not to confuse sexism and being an asshole and slamming doors on people though.
It was just an example. I hold doors for everyone, and I'm nice to everyone, but sometimes girls really like to get on my nerves. Stuff like: "Oh, help me, I'm just a girl, I'm not strong enough to carry..."
And the next minute:
"Why didn't you pick any girls for your dodge-ball team?"
"They aren't strong enough."
"You sexist bastard!"
That's what I'm talking about. Still, this isn't a great example either, but it will have to do.

women want to be equel to men so it is my opinion that if a girl hits me for real I'll defend myself

...What about in self-defense? Or if they're being a whiny *****? Otherwise, I do not condone hitting a woman. Just throwing it out there.
