Um, no. You have no right to restrict other people's freedoms, no matter how repugnant you find them. And that is something you should all bear into mind - this, this kind of shitty reasoning where you presume that your subjective views are worth more than those of, say, a hunter, is precisely the same reason as to why Australia hasn't got an 18+ classification and why political correctness is going mad in Europe. The assumption that your moral position is better, and that the freedoms of others should be restricted to satisfy your moral upsets.

And that is wrong. No, I don't care how much you care about animal rights - they're animals, and the rights of humans to hunt, kill and eat them supercede any fallacious point about it being cruel.

You seem to have misunderstood my point. Hunting is good, but when you hunt and then just leave part of/all of the corpse there is not only a slap in the face to anyone that actually hunts, but also to the animal that you hunted. If you kill something you utilize it, that is the point of survival. anything else is just being a dick.

The ability to feel (that is to say, perceive subjectively) makes a creature sentient. While we have no way to truly show that animals are sentient, there is no reason to assume that they are not. They react in all the sorts of ways you would expect a sentient creature to act.

I disagree... I feel that a sentient being is something that is self aware and can make moral choices. That is what defines humans from animals. Do I think that over hunting is wrong? Yes. Do I think that hunting for sport is wrong? No. Do I think that torturing animals is wrong? Absolutely but hunting is not torture.

It's not really a matter of opinion... That is what sentient means. If you mean "self-aware and capable of moral decision-making" then say "self-aware and capable of moral decision-making," don't say "sentient" because that means something else.

Under the classification that all those who feel are sentient, every single creature could be considered sentient. I'm going to do what I asked you not to do and quote Dictionary.com

This means not just perception but a conscious acknowledgment of it. I don't think that a flame war is necessary. I acknowledge and respect your opinion and I won't argue the matter further.

A friend of my dad's hunts, I don't have any problem only because he eats what kills. But hunting for fun is a whole different story, and I do not approve...

I hunt and generally eat what I kill. I say generally because sometimes overpopulation requires killing of animals, even if you don't need/can't use the food.

No way is hunting right when it is for fun or sport, i mean honestly, what is the greatness of killling innocent animals? What did they ever do to you?? it is absolutely crazy that anyone can find pleasure in watching the life drain out of a living being just like themselves. if you dont have access to a market to go and get meat, then fine, go kill some animals, but if you can choose between going and buying an already dead animal to eat and going out to kill another one, GO TO THE MARKET!!!!!!!

Depends, if it is meant for beneficial things to oneself, such as food, shelter and tools, or maybe even self-defense, it is fine. But if one says for fun. They can proceed to die in a hole filled with fire.

Hunting is pretty sweet. Plenty of hunters in my family and friends, myself among them. You go out for the event of it, and what you get is coincidental (much like fishing). It's not always about the shooting and killing of the animals, it's about the camaraderie, the time, the chill weather and your own shooting prowess. The meat you get as a result is a side effect, but let's not forget that it's a damn delicious one. Venison? Absolutely. Dove/quail? Wild but fantastic. Duck? Sure. Turkey? What, you don't like Turkey?

Then there's the bigger ones--bison, gazelle, antelope. All harder kills, and they make great eats and pretty sweet trophies when you get them mounted. Rarely you'll see someone take on like an Elephant or bear, both of which have as much potential to kill you as you have to kill it, so it's about more than just the thrill of it. Same thing goes with the bigger members of the cat family.

i like hunting, i think its fun. Not the killing the animal part, but just the essence of going out hunting is fun and calming for me. I don't go out and kill thousands of animals a year though, maybe 1 or two a season, and I also make sure the animal dies quick as to not let it suffer.

As long as hunting is done humanly and the person fireing the gun has an IQ of above 90 I think its fine, but of course i come from a hunters family so i guess im biased.

Edit: Also when i get a deer I always have a stock of venasin, so i don't just kill the animal and leave it, i use what i can from it and sell what I can as well.

that is an awesome way to put it and i completely agree...although maybe there should be some realllly pointy spikes down at he bottom of the hole too...i'm sure it would have added comfort :]
